The custom exhaust for my S65 swapped E30 M3 - Track car project Pt11

The exhaust for my E30 M3 has been finished. Craig has wrapped the exhaust with new heat shielding and created the DTM styled exhaust tip that I was after. Then we fire it up again and it sounds awesome!

What a nutter Craig is, feeding TIG wire in from 6 inches away with plaggy gloves on!!! Beautiful work though, would be really interesting to get an insight into some in depth fabrication stuff with Craig on a video at some point.

Thurmomax in Germany make that we have it on all our heat shields for our big diesel engines ... very good stuff

Driftworks' builds always make me regret my career choice lol. I will admit i'm usually not a fan of the DTM style exhaust tip because of the amount of rough E30's on the road but it suits that car perfectly. Sounds fabulous aswell, great team behind you too the craftsmanship is top notch. Cant wait to see more.

Its an s65, the s62 comes in e39 m5, they are using the one from e9x m3.

I just had a thought rob ferreti and LG motorsports are bringing over there custom built corvettes to try and get a few records and show us Europeans how it’s done and set a open challenge to anyone who wanted to turn up about the same time, Might be a good benchmark

Hate to be “that guy” but the exhaust tips of the dtms of old were at 90* to the floor, that is to say they had a oval cross section.

Completely upright? The only ones I know of are a lot longer than this with a sharp 40ish degree upswept tip.

Ahh I think I understand. You mean the 'slash cut' made it 90* to the road I think. I thought about that. I was about 3 seconds from the chop saw with the uncut exhaust tip, and thought better of it.

Driftworks that’s what i meant, 90* to the road. Such a crap description I gave haha! I think it makes the back end look a bit cleaner, the exhaust tips being level with the rear bumper. Still looks cool, nice to see someone trying something different!

Any worries of the exhaust messing up the paint directly over the tips? I highly doubt this'll be spitting any flames, but the heat might still do it considering the tips are angled towards the bumper?

Dtm upswept, couldn't of picked a better exhaust style for an e30! I think quad tips / e92 style just wouldn't of looked nice!

Is this a Simons Muffler? It looks like one. If so it sounds like they work really well. The Sound of this exhaust system at WOT will be soll fucking good!!! Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪

It is yes. We use them on a lot of our cars. They always seem to work well, and don't fall to bits like the dogcr*p M****flow mufflers we've used in the past. Thanks man!

Driftworks yes Magnaflow is crap. The internals rust like nothing and they fall apart. And then you have a Beer can under the Car.

As far as American exhaust companies go, flowmaster is definitely much higher quality than magnaflow. Sound better too.

Regarding the exhaust and NA discussion. It's not the exhaust per say that matters that much, but rather the headers/manifold - That's where you make it or break it. Everything after that isnt as important.

I don't know much about rotary, but general experience says wider would be better yeah. You've got to be careful with noise on an NA rotary though obviously.

Haha, I haven't watched this for a while, but I'm guessing you are missing something. I also own an RHS LSX on ITBs with Tony Mamo valve train. It sounds like a rotary on idle.
