Dry docked in Greenwich England UK, the Cutty Sark is 19th century clipper shipped that once transported tea, wool, coal and other items from all over the globe. If you have any interest in naval or sailing relics this ship is a must-see attraction when visiting London.

I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky, And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by.... Great video!

Visited her a couple days ago. And climbed her rigging and along one of her yards. Incredible experience with Wire and Sky. It was a wonderful experience which I would recommend to everyone. V supportive staff. Cutty Sark is just awesome. Incredible history and I hope she will be around for at least another century for everyone to enjoy. Thank you for the video. 😁

Grand old ship. Love that she's still around, although will never sail again.

Cutty Sark was built in Dumbarton on the River Clyde in Scotland to a design by Hercules Linton for the China tea trade. The name "Cutty Sark" is from the poem "Tam O'Shanter" by the Scottish poet Robert Burns. "Cutty Sark" is the witch in the short shirt (a cutty sark) who grabs hold of Tam's horse's tail as they flee across the bridge over the River Doon. The witch is unable to cross flowing water so is left on the other side of the bridge clutching the horse's tail. The figurehead of the ship depicts the witch holding the horse's tail.

Wonderful video; thanks. I knew the Cutty Sark had a life well past her China tea clipper days, but I wasn't aware that it's hull was partly copper-clad and that there was so much iron in the hull bracing. I'm so glad they were able to restore it to its former glory.

when she was built the crew accommodation was below deck up forward, to increase cargo capacity the dog boxes,(crews nickname) were put on the deck. If you look carefully you can still see where the portholes were for the crews quarters. cargo holds don't need portholes.

Just a quick piece of information, during the time that Cutty Sark was built most Men were an average of 5' 3 inches tall and Women were 5' feet or slightly less, one of Jack The Rippers Victims was Nicknamed "Long Shanks Lizzy" for her height and she was 5' 3 Inches Tall, this was down to a poor diet, even Queen Victoria was Tiny compared to today's Women and although diet has improved and people have gotten taller we often don't realize how much smaller they were. Great Video of The Historical Clipper, Cutty Sark.

More of a reconstruction than a restoration. Very little of the original hull remained after the fire
@chicademar80
@chicademar80 Жыл бұрын
Hiya, this is what many people think but according to literature about this amazing ship, it’s incorrect. The majority of the ship’s fabric was removed before the fire as the year before a restoration project started. So fortunately, most of it was unharmed by the fire. Additionally, if you visit, you will see that the original parts are painted white. So you can distinguish the original framework. What had happened is some of the metal work has buckled under the intense heat. What is standing is def not a replica but a restoration. A testament to an incredible ship and a wonderful project of restoration which has really propelled this beauty into the new century.

The restoration is fantastic. The fake glass sea is a disgrace. A Michelangelo in a cheap $10 Walmart frame.
