Dr. Barry Kerzin was a California physician interested in Buddhism when he went to Tibet 27 years ago to train Buddhist doctors in methods of Western medical research and practice. Now an ordained Buddhist monk who serves as the Dalai Lama’s personal physician, he teaches doctors and medical students the lessons he has learned from meditation and the contemplative tradition of Buddhism: compassion, empathy, and selflessness.

On the other hand look at thankless Chinese instead of thanking Tibetan committed genocide against the very people that saved them from Mongols and occupied their country. What has Jesus preached apart from committing Genocide against Native Americans and forced conversion. Fucking crusaders demagogue.

Lots of doctors in the western world would benefit from mental hygiene. not only doctors of course, but so many doctors have no compassion and they listen to themselves instead of the patients. Great to see this doctor active, hope he has a long and healthy life.

Sadly following the end of many Great kings like Ashoka, and colonial divisions, many places including Bodhigaya was burnt down, Buddhism was chased away, as Buddha predicted and advice, with God Vishnu in protection, Lanka was accounted to lead it forward. Buddha himself visited. Bodhi tree was sent, relic was sent. Here we are today. Without Ravana's Lanka, likely Buddhism would have been different today

Anthon Deutsch Brother I don't know how much your pain is,I suffered pained too because of Neurological illness but meditation helped me a lot. Love yourself don't pray for the good health as it may be temporary pray for the strength. You know we in Chemistry study we have 70% of elements from Universe/Stars so all the problems lies in you and the answers too. I know it seems too philosophical it doesn't work always but try it if you have tried everything. Mediate in Morning,Enjoy Solitude,Accept the pain then only you can gather the courage.

As a 12-year meditator let me clarify: such doctors can help, but invariably we heal ourselves. You must start to meditate, find a way to care about others and spend less time dwelling on you own concerns. Find a Buddhist lineage-approved teacher, or a sangha (congregation of Buddhist practioners o the same traditions) who has teachers of a tradition. The Dalai Lama is the spiritual leader of Tibet only, and the only for Tibet, although many, many other Buddhists of other nations and traditions admire him. You must also understand that healing is not the same being cured. These bodies we have are destined to die. All things pass, all is impermanent except for the abiding buddha nature that all living beings possess. All will eventually - in their own time - as they become more and more ready to meet and learn to trust their own nature, after much effort to grow compassion and wisdom enough that we experience our own nonduality with all beings and break the illusion that mundane life is isolation from that connection, and how that works.

The problem disturbing many doctors is of course systemic. The system is not compassionate and does not support compassion among medical practitioners. But the practice of meditation will benefit doctors, nurses, and all those who practice medicine immeasurably; consequently, these professionals will benefit one another and those they attempt to heal--to what extent, who can know?

Wow! Is today my very lucky day to have come across this video out of the blue? Just after watching two videos of Israeli soldiers terrorizing and shooting at Palestinian unarmed protesters, (a common habit - obsession - of mine , watching about Israelis' atrocities in the occupied Palestine), I came across this video of an American, unselfish doctor, who is helping poor Tibetan Buddhist monks and civilians, free of charge! To find such a dedicated, unselfish doctor, who does not charge for office visits, here in Bushkill, Pennsylvania where I live, in unimaginable. (I understand that doctors here have bills to pay, too). Be that as it may, I was very happy to learn about this noble doctor. The world can use a dozen more such doctors to make this world a better and more peaceful place to live. May god bless Doctor Barry Kerzin and grant him Enlightenment that he seeks. The dissatisfaction of doctors is not unique. Are bankers really happy? What about accountants or lawyers? The Buddha clarified that all people are generally dissatisfied because they don't understand the nature of suffering and keep making the same mistakes like a madman expecting the same false action to lead to a different positive outcome. Doctors are even more disturbed by the suffering in life because we see it all the time. Children diagnosed with leukaemia, someone bleeding to death, vomiting blood from gastric cancer, pancreatic cancer diagnosed straight after after your honeymoon. Now consider the fact that we do harm to patients because we don't know the true consequences of our actions (we go by clinical trials which are essentially averaged data that can not tell the future with respect to any single individual) and of course we make mistakes too! That's a lot to start to take on.
