We did these repairs in the military. We drilled a screw in the center after we filed it down. Then we did the mold over the screw. It added an anchor ⚓️ for the new post. I agree , that will probably pop off.

lol military doesn’t do anything right. When I was in the army and got stuck at the bottom of a hill and my car wouldn’t go and kept losing power I asked a military mechanic and they all said cars F’d up and my friend came by and said does that car have traction control and I said idk just bought it it pushed a button and off I went. Point is military grade usually means cheapest and I did it in the military means I don’t know what I’m actually doing.

You are correct in that the post he built will break off because it is a cold burn. It is not called soldering. You can't melt hot lead on top of cold lead. It has to be slowly built up. By the way, to prevent melting the plastic you place a wet rag around the post prior to heating.

Pro tip, when using an open flame around a NON sealed battery, all you need to do is remove the caps as he did, blow a little air into the cell to blow out the gases and then you're good. Another pro tip. Batteries only create gases when above gassing temp, which is usually only on charge or during very heavy use

Very unlikely with this flooded lead acid battery. The caps were removed and he probably blew into the cells to get rid of the hydrogen gas. The cells only produce the hydrogen when charging or when discharging under a high enough rate.

@@ED-es2qv You're correct. A cell with an internal short world cause heat and off-gassing as well, which may not end well in this video. Good call. 👍 However, since the caps were removed, the concentration of any gasses to ignite would be negligible. Regardless, I'm still not going to do this. I'll just get a new battery.

A lot of folks take "first world" for granted. If it can be fixed, fix it. Yeah, somr things may not be worth the hassle or risk, but honestly lots of folks dont understand how things work anyway and even if this isnt ideal its cool that humans find a way. They'll say "it has a finite life then needs replaced".... sure... but if you understand batteries and the specific type, you can repair/renew *anything* Drain it (preferably into your local communal water source, in these types of places 😂) and figure out how to clean off the inner plates through electolysis or whatever. Replace the terminals if needed. Add fresh electrolyte solution. Boom.
