What are you talking about? Hamza Yusuf is seriously amazing. The way he explains things is so fascinating and intelligent. To be honest, these days a lot of the scholars can't hold the interest of our young generation, but Hamza Yusuf has a gift of appealing to our generation and making them interested in Islam. I've been to huge Islamic conventions where he spoke several lectures...and I hated when his lectures finished because they were so well explained and remarkable.

Fatima, I agree with you entirely about the captiousness of some of us muslims. While there is a bigger issue out there to address, some of us are bent on finding faults with others about some secondary or even tertiary issues. Sheikh Hamza Yusuf must be credited for his resilience and intelligence in that he has traipsed a route from christianity to islam, and now teaching some of us muslims who were born in the faith. If this is not enough reason to embrace the brother, I don't know what else

@translationwiz I agree dealing with the self should come first, but as muslims we also have social obligations. In my experience those who talk about social issues, governments, injustices etc do it to make the masses aware of what the reality is around them. yes Allah swt is most important, and it is He who demands us to enjoin good and forbid evil.

MasyaAllah.. it is so obvious, we're more interested in looking other ppl false/wrongdoings instead of our own... as for at least have respect for the shaykh, they are the ppl of 'ilm and we are jahill(less knowledge and understanding).. listen and obey all the good things from them and apply to our own selves.. if there is contradiction/something that we don't understand, refer to our Ustaz(the scholars).. they will explain it to us. insyaAllah.. Wa 'alaykum assalaam. Laa hawla wa laa quwwata illaa billaah. Verily, the words of Rasoolullaah (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) are true. He said: "Now there are many scholars among you, and few speakers. There will come a time when there will be few scholars and many speakers." And he also said: "They (ignorant people, pseudo-scholars) will speak without knowledge and will be astray and make also others go astray." May Allaah protect us.

Mr. Yusuf, you are such a great speaker, only fi you were not a Sufi... You have been fooled by ignorants like Ali Al Jeffry into ways of Sufism and their deviations from original Islam brouhgt to us by the Prophet, peace be upon him. I sak Allah to guide you from Sufism into Ahlessuna Wal Jamaa'ah. Brothers and sisters in Islam, please go to the following site and learn Islam from those who follow true Islam: thedeenshow where brother Yusuf Estes speaks who is of Ahlessunna...

5) Many people take knowledge of these kind of people. They forget about the Salaf as-Saalih (pious predecessors). They don't follow major scholars of our time or those who passed away long ago. You have to stick to the Sunnah. And you need evidence for the sayings of people. If they contradict, then you don't follow them in it. This can be a difference in jurisprudence issues. But also in 'Aqeedah. Then it is serious. Many sufis say "Allaah is everywhere". This is clear kufr (unbelief).

hes doing it on behalf of a friend who is a scholar, and he isnt the only one..and being able to recite dosnt matter if someone says things that goes againt Aqeeda..like in his interview with michael enright about many things including Allah having hearing & seeing some likeness to this world when majority of scholors all agree that there is nothing like Allah in this world..if you can do a course in Aqeeda very important, HY is Sufi and not with the majority ulama, still he says some good things

Wa 'alaykum assalaam wa rahmatullaah. First of all, the da'wah of AhlusSunnah came to Chechnya, but a lot of brothers went astray. They had beards, prayed, etc. but had very bad manners. They showed disrespect to elderly people or their parents etc. So the Akhlaaq was very bad, unfortunately. So there were also some mistakes in applying of the punishments of the Sharee'ah. As you say, there may have been beheadings etc. Although beheading is a punishment in Sharee'ah for certain crimes.

The name of god; translated from Arabic to English as Allah in the Qu'ran, translated from Hebrew to English as El in the Old Testament; is the same word, with only slight spelling variation. This is something too few people remember, that the People of the Book, called today Christian, Jew, and Muslim, acknowledge the same god, and only differ in interpretation. In our zeal to correct the defects of one another let us not forget our common goal: to praise god and draw closer to him.

@karlsmith00 "I dont hate anything" is that what you think or what you want to think see the subconscious is an amazing thing and while you may think you are healthy and psychologically stable deep inside you you know that you arent its called denial and admitting theres a problem is the first step to healing the wounds that have been repressed for so long "you have no clue what im talking about" then tell me tell me why you have to argue with someone using nasty words when simple words suffice
