Watch the video for "Songs The Night Sings": • The Dark Element - "So...
THE DARK ELEMENT is a musical project featuring vocalist Anette Olzon (ex-Nightwish) and Finnish guitarist and songwriter Jani Liimatainen (Insomnium, Cain's Offering).
“Songs The Night Sings” takes off where the self-titled debut left off, with immaculate vocals from Anette and fabulous anthems written by Jani.
"It’s a thrill that we’re releasing yet another album and for me it’s been even easier to record this one since me and Jani now know each other really well. For me, this album is bigger and better and I believe the ones who liked the first one will really like this one too. All I can say is that I already long to do another album. Hep hep!" says Anette.
Jani adds, "I think the album is very heavy, but still hyper melodic, and this time we are even exploring new musical territories we didn't on the previous album. Now that me and Anette have one album together under our belts, we have found the style we want to pursue and also the ideal way of working together. Given all this, I think it's safe to say that with this album you'll get even more of what made the first album so good, only it's gonna be bigger, better and bolder!"
THE DARK ELEMENT made their live debut in June 2018 at the Sweden Rock Festival in Sölvesborg, Sweden. They also completed a short Japanese tour and performed at the Frontiers Rock Sweden festival in October at Fryshuset Klubben in Stockholm. More tour dates are planned for this upcoming album, so expect to see the band on stage again soon.
Since word of this project initially got out, fans were frothing at the mouth with anticipation for its arrival. And no wonder considering the talent involved! Anette is widely known for being the immaculate voice on the hit albums from Nightwish, “Dark Passion Play” and “Imaginareum”. Jani has recently been busy in Insomnium as well as Cain's Offering alongside Stratovarius singer Timo Kotipelto, but left a deep mark on the minds of all power metal fans thanks to his time in Sonata Arctica. The resulting debut album released in November 2017 took no time to prove that the resume of the individuals involved did indeed add up to the musical output.

For real, i just saw sonata live with battlebeast and kamelot and it was damn pathetic. Their music nowadays is completely trash devoid of any relatability. None of the songs are catchy, melodic, or memorable. Its sad really, but then again we got cains offering and this from it so im not gonna cry over spilt milk.

Jani's lyrics are very painful. Heres to You lyrics are heart wrenching. I noticed he used the line "No young boy will march to war..." I am wondering if that is a nod to the Finnish Government about his mandatory army service. I mean the man spent a month in jail because he refused to go to the army and I don't blame him.

I discovered Nightwish while Anette was heading for them, and I left nightwish after they left her. I tried listening to Tarja era NW but I was already hooked on Anettes NW. Floor is excellent but I definitely don't follow her and the band anymore. So glad Anette is working again and that the newer songs have a bit more complexity to them semi reminiscent of her NW days. Big fan.

I think a lot of people saying the lyrics are cheesy are overlooking what this song is saying. A pallbearer is someone who carries a coffin at a funeral. Its like the song is referencing the lack of communication and unity within the human race, theres a lot of things that shouldn't be done but happen anyway due to ignorance and suffering in the world. 'We will walk among the weakest, and we will walk alone' is an empowering but sad truth, to try and fight for the greater good or sanctity of this world is to feel alone since people tend to be afraid to help one another and instead become cynical 'till the end of our days'. And then, the key point here says ''We were told the end would be beautiful, no one told that the pallbearer walks alone' there's always talk about love and unity at the end of days but people never realize how hypocritical they are when things are at their worst leaving everyone to become their own pallbearer as they carry the weight of guilt and pain and death alone. BUT hopefully, despite all this, maybe one day our need to bear this pain alone will show someone else how beautiful we are individually and then maybe we can work together, so we dont carry the weight of suffering alone. To me, I interpret this song as a sort of cry for people to realize that we're collectively building our own coffin and we can either work together and realize it to handle this burden together or else we'll all eventually walk alone till the end and become extinct. Maybe one day 'we'll help one another' but that day is not today....or is it?
