When he yells “I HAVE TO SAVE DENT,” the fact that the music kicks in right in the middle of him saying that somehow makes it more emotional and is just genius. That has always stuck out to me. Not to mention Gary Oldman is just beyond another level as Gordon. The desperation in his voice really makes you feel for him and what he has had to go through so far.....

Absolutely brilliant scene. I get chills every time from Gordon's dialogue, pulling the gun on Batman as he walks away to dive. While the bank heist was a brilliant, fresh take on a cliched trope, TDKR's prologue was even more original and something that made you go "What the hell?" in a good way. I like how it's much more intense, partially due to the score and the "Deshi Deshi Basara" in the background, but also demonstrates Bane at his finest. His brute force, his cold calculation. Plus the plane came out of nowhere, which came as a surprise. Sure, there may be a hole in that the first plane was unable to detect the *

He wanted to save Rachel, Joker deliberateky change their address, so if Batman choose love over justice, he would find Dent, if Batman is truly justice as people or himself think he is, he would go save Dent and find Rachel instead. This is the twisted way of the Joker, he want Batman to admit he is just a man, and a hypocrite, because when push to the limit, even Batman will pursue his self interest instead of choosing the greater good of saving Dent over his friend. He showed that Batman is not a symbol of justice, only a fake symbol. To punish him, Joker let him found Dent instead, a truly twisted "Joke". Like hey, you think you represent justice? I will let you save Dent then, while you live in regrets forever because you made a selfish decision when forced to make a choice. Joker can read Batman's mind like a book.

0:29 Something I don't really see talked about as much, is when Gorodn says "Every second we don't take, every second those people on the ferries get closer to blowing each other up." Batman says "Thats not going to happen" and Gorodon says "Then he'll blow both of them up" It shows that Gordon's faith in the public has clearly been shaken as Gotham has been descending into Chaos. He first instict is that somone on the boat is going to activate the bomb, but Batmans faith in people has yet to be shaken. Not a moment is wasted in this film.

For some reason, when Oldman says "I have to save Dent!" I find it a very powerful statement...But why does Gordon feel as if HE needs to save Dent? Can anyone explain?
@a_fine_edition27464 жыл бұрын
He feels responsible for not being able to stop the Joker from scarring Dent and killing Rachael. He thinks he should’ve gotten to either of them faster. As a result, he starts to crack a little, as shown here.
@sliderALT3 жыл бұрын
I always took it too as the fact that Gordon was at the center of all this. From the very beginning during the rooftop scene with all 3 of them, you got the feeling that Gordon was sort of the one that helped bring all 3 parties together--Batman, Dent, and himself. If not for Gordon, Dent probably would have never worked with Batman. In that same scene, you even had the bad foreboding feeling then that "things would get ugly." So when things did turn out bad and Dent got scarred and Rachel got killed, you got the sense that Gordon felt like his plan to work together and fight corruption failed miserably. He's so desperate he even pulls the gun on Batman. I took it as Gordon not only wanting to save Dent, but wanting to make sure it was him fully him in charge of that saving because he felt like he failed Dent so badly.
@shotbro49983 жыл бұрын
There’s also the fact that there was a traitor in Gordon’s team and Dent told him of it but Gordon was too ignorant to take him up on the tip, instead criticising the Justice Department. That traitor was the one who sent Rachel to her grave

These guys have set the bar so high, I really wish they won't reboot it. It isn't even like when we had to see a different portrayal of the Batman and the Joker from Burton's film and people end up comparing Keaton vs Bale, Jack vs Heath, etc. It's that Oldman plays Gordon, Caine with Alfred and everybody else plays their character so damn well (which Burton didn't have, he had no Gordon and his Alfred was stiff), that the new set of guys replacing this will ALL have to bring their A game.

yes, I think so. I think he obviously had some guilt, when Dent told him to basically purge his department, and Gordon said he needed the manpower, so he had to take some risks with his men. Those risks ended up ruining Harvey's life so I think Gordon felt like he had to redeem himself by saving Harvey's life. The thing is it was already too late. The funny thing is it was all money. If Gordon had more money to work with, and the mob less... no problem. But money creates tragedy every second...
