I've always loved that, "Come with me...save yourself. You don't owe *these people anymore* ..." line. Selina acts like she's this devil may care person out only for herself, but the truth is she does give a damn. She's grown up with rich people stepping on poor people. But she saw under Bane's rule that the poor people could be every bit as bad when they don't have any consequences, and she saw with Bruce being Batman and with the family who was torn out of their home, that rich people aren't automatically horrible either. She came to Bane's conclusion, that Gotham wasn't worth saving.... but she also realized that Batman, that Bruce was good. She'd seen his sacrifices and even that he came back to try and save the day, that he was worth saving. She didn't want him to be sacrificed for people who wouldn't pay him the same courtesy. So with that line she was pleading with him to save the one thing that she saw as being actually valuable in Gotham city. The person who was trying to save it.

One thing you forgot was that Bane never told the public that the bomb was on a countdown. No one outside his circle knew the bomb would go off no matter what, except Batman (and those he told when he returned, of course). Remember Bane's speech to Bruce in the pit: he wanted the people of Gotham to tear each other apart in the individual hope of survival before the split-second realization at the end of those five months that it was all for nothing.
@MaoKatz

In the movie Bane wears the mask because he was attacked into the pit after Talia's liberation. His wounds hurt so much and he needs the mask to give him regularly a dose of an anaesthetic for his terrible pain. In the comics Bane does not wear this mask but one like those of Mexican wrestling. Instead, he has some tubes connected to his blood vessels that are constantly inoculating some drug, Venom, highly addictive and powerful that gives Bane his strength.

1.Tom Hardy had the *gargantuan* task of trying to make his version of Bane live up to the hype of the late Heath Ledger's Joker and, honestly, he *nailed it* His voice as Bane has been referenced and memed to death over the years, sure, but he's generally seen as the best live action Bane. Which , granted, isn't saying a LOT xD 2. And speaking of Heath Ledger's Joker apparently he was supposed to have a role in this movie as well, but his untimely death forced serious rewrites, hence why this movie took an additional year to make.

2. That's a bit of a misconception. Heath Ledger died even before Dark Knight came out, 6 months before in fact, so any involvment he was going to have in a 3rd movie was more of a "if we make a 3rd movie, Joker will be in it" kind of thing. A story idea for a 3rd movie wasn't even in development much less was there a script in place. Nolan didn't even know if he'd return to make another movie. He wanted to make Inception after Dark Knight, then after that the studio convinced him to make a 3rd. So Joker was never going to be in this movie.

@@EScoglio They made each movies one at a time without any proper plan for sequels but Ledger's sister said that before he died he talked about wanting to make more Batman movies. If he had not died maybe Dark Knight Rises would not have been the same. Bane releasing all the prisoners could have been the perfect way to set up Joker to return for a 4th movie. In the end they just decided to close the trilogy. They even considered to have Bale's Batman be the one sharing the same universe with Cavil's Superman but he didn't want to return so they made Batfleck instead.

Nuclear weapons have a very specific firing sequence, and multiple safeties to prevent it from occurring unintentionally. They're overbuilt and very tough. So Bruce continued to be a public figure for a few more years after he put Batman to bed.

They say in the movie that they will eventually be able to prove fraud but in the short term, Bruce is broke so that forces him to show the reactor to Talia. She worked to get into the right position to be the person he would give the reactor to in hope to prevent it falling into the wrong hands. That's what the stock attack was about. Putting Bruce in a bad position with his company even if it was temporary.

9:01 The actor playing Stryver is Burn Gorman. Had a pretty good run on “Torchwood,” and he’s becoming another great “That Guy Who Was in That Thing.” 15:24 A lot of this scene is copied from “The Dark Knight Returns,” a comic by Alan Moore that was also turned into an animated movie. The older cop says to the younger one “You’re in for a show,” but in the original, he talks to Batman and refers to the younger cop as “schmuckface.” 😂😂

You kinda missed that Bane *lied* to the public about the bomb. They didn't know it would deteriate and blow anyway over time. That's why Bane taunted Bruce about giving them hope. By the time they know for sure, it's still only a select few and now they're really in a no-win type of situation. Like with the cops on the other side of the bridge blowing it when Blake tried to get the bus off the island. Those cops had no idea what the situation really was (which Blake did try to tell them) and no reason to believe what Blake was trying to do wouldn't get Gotham destroyed. Bane and Talia really did have it well lined up, they just really should have killed Bruce instead of dumping him in the Pit.

Rises still makes no sense. People would still panic. If a terrorist organization told you that a bomb in his possession was safe unless you do X, would you totally believe them? It's like if someone put a gun to your head while drinking coffee and snorting cocaine and they say you'll be perfectly fine if you don't flinch.

So many people got caught up in their own idea of what the third movie should be that they could not enjoy it for what it was, and decided to nitpick it the way nobody did with the first two. Yes it has a couple problems, but so do all movies. Taken as a whole the trilogy is one of the greatest of all time.

The football scene wasn’t the greatest, but I enjoyed it because I’m from Pittsburgh and was still living there at the time this was filmed. The football team featured had a lot of the Pittsburgh Steelers on it and the kicker was Pittsburgh’s mayor at the time, Luke Ravenstahl. The final fight outside was filmed in Pittsburgh’s Oakland area and a friend of mine was able to watch them film there. That is where the three colleges are located: Pitt, Point Park and CMU. Bonus fun fact: CMU alumni include Jeff Goldblum and Holly Hunter.

So, pretty much anyone who watched the animated series or read the comics probably saw the twist with Talia coming a mile off. As soon as they started talking about the mercenary’s child (not son, child), I knew the turn was coming. In the comics, Talia falls in love with Batman and has a long term on and off relationship with him as he tries to stop her father from decimating the world’s human population. She’s often shown to be just as capable, though not quite as vicious as her father, but always refers to Batman as “beloved.” They even have a son in later comics, Damien Wayne, who becomes the fourth Robin, and easily the most bloodthirsty member of the Bat family.

The thing I love about this one is that it's all about consequences. Batman made a LOT of mistakes in the previous two films, and this addresses them. Nolan didn't preach to us at the time about whether Bruce was right or wrong to lie about Harvey Dent, or to draw an arbitrary line between killing someone and 'not saving' them, etc. He just waited, letting us draw our own conclusions...and in Rises, he SHOWS us that Batman was wrong, by showing us the consequences of his actions. It manages the tricky balancing act of being a triumphant story about Batman overcoming the mistakes of his past. A fitting end to the trilogy.

Gordon does kinda get his own spin-off, though not in this particular timeline or actor, with the TV show Gotham. If you do decide to watch it, the first few seasons are really good; stylish, well-acted, plot twists, basically a gritty mob drama with just the right amount of camp. The last few seasons go off the rails; the plot twists get sillier and less plausible, really campy villains, and a general decrease in the quality of writing. As a plus, it does explore many Batman villains that aren't seen in other live-action media.

I love that series tbh from start to finish. They knew what they were doing with the camp in the end going closer to the comic renditions of these characters in how they start gritty and over time descend into madness and embrace the wackiness. Also it's depiction of Gotham is great, love that they actually embraced the timeless feel of Gotham City. It's set in the modern day with smartphones but people still drive retro cars ranging from the 1940s to the 1970s/1980s. We see typewriters, Alot of Art Deco and Gothic designs and the fashion is very timeless as well. Also love that they featured blimps in the show. So it's got a special place in my heart even if the writing is weaker by the end.

I find Nolan's trilogy very mixed on how it deals with Batman's 'one rule'. Of the 6 villains he faces, only 2 are arrested (one of whom appears later making a mockery of justice). 1 Batman doesn't save, 1 he outright kills, 1 he lets Catwoman kill with the guns on his motorcycle... (so much for 'no guns, no killing'), and 1 dies in a crash he causes. I have to wonder if Nolan's Batman even believes in criminal reform or incarceration with how casually he lets his enemies die because it's more convenient. At least Anne Hathaway is super hot and makes the rest bearable.
@jessecortez9449

I can't stand how many people miss Nolan's inconsistency on this. Nolan, himself, likes to think of himself as some big brain megamind of cinema and while he's certainly fantastic, he makes simple mistakes that change the narrative of his stories. And no one calls him out on it. Bad enough that his biggest movies just have him explaining what he's doing to the audience instead of simply showing.
@chamoo232

Every Batman kill. Remember when Keaton strapped a gargoyle to Joker's leg causing him to fall to his death? In the sequel he kicks a clown holding a bomb into the sewers causing him to explode. Bad guys die when they fight. The rule is more about not using guns and not murdering everyone. And to be fair, not saving Ras'al Gul is a mistake the cause the entire 3rd movie to happen.
