Honestly the purpose of ships isn't to guess how likely they are to be canon, but cause people like to play with dolls and make them smooch together. The validity of canon is just a bonus and a fuel for more content of said ship.

Personally, I never interpreted the Ralsei options as romantic. He’s a guy that’s never had a single friend until us. I picked those options because we’re supposed to be his friend, and I know how sheltered he is.

I think the reason I gravitate towards Krusie is because every single moment that could be interpreted as a "Krusie moment" was made without the direct influence of the player. Obviously, there's that one festival question that Susie asks Kris, where she asks who they would take to the festival, every single response elicits a weirded out reaction from Kris, except for when they say they'd take Susie, showing that they feel completely natural saying that. Along with that, there's no instance where the player can attempt to push a romance with Susie, aside from that carnival question, at least from what I remember, all "Krusie moments" come from Kris's own actions and words without the direct influence of the player.

I wouldn’t say Asgore in undertale was cowardly. I feel like that implies he had a lack of confidence in his fighting abilities. I think it’s more that he didn’t truly want to fight humans/humankind, he just felt pressure to do what he thought his kingdom needed

I'll be honest, I don't think any ships are gonna become canon (except maybe Suselle because Toby seems to be hinting at that more than others). But that doesn't mean that the ships can't be fun! As long as it's not problematic and you remember that it's just a game and you shouldn't be too angry if it's not canon or someone else has a different opinion, ship to your heart's content!

I love King and Queen dynamic, but even if Queen says that she is Lancer's "mother", and if their dialogue sounds UNCANNYLY like a common domestic interaction (at least my parents talk like this, LOL), I think that they're just very good friends, "angry pensive guy and extra positive idiot have fun together" kind if thing. And don't forget that we still have never seen Queen Spades, who can be literally anything or even not be at all, we just need to wait and see.

Here's something I thought about Ralsei. I'm not sure if you noticed this, but he has a habit of psychologically and emotionally adapting to the other character's needs and desires, and Kris's (or also the Player's, it's kind of muddled honestly) in particular. What if this adaptation isn't just psychological and emotional, but also physical? What if the initial weird, black-furred fuzzy form that doesn't look like a goat at all is actually his _original_ form? It really doesn't look like the black fur is just a shadow cast by his hat, it really does like black fur until the reveal happens. What if him assuming a form resembling Asriel is actually a _retroactive adaptation_ to Kris' psychological need, or an attempt to appeal more sympathetic to Kris?

Kris and Noelles ship feels like a heavy subversive take on romance games. Sometimes in order to get with character you outright forse them to like you. And. . .yeah, neither Kris nor Nielle enjoy this, plus there's heavy manipulations and negative character arcs involved

I can't help feeling bad for Ralsei. Poor guy's been alone for so long, doesn't get much in the way of respect from others, and he may have feelings for someone who at best doesn't feel the same way, and at worst is repulsed by the idea. ... Is the Soul and Ralsei a thing?

I kinda like it in a humorous way how there is some canonical weight to Susie being shipped with every lightner her age she has interacted with. In Deltarune, it is obvious that WD Gaster is assembling a garage band of Tumblr sexymen, and Susie is assembling a harem whom she really wishes everyone wasn’t involved in (except for one character of your choice, of course).

I understand all the points of this video, but there is something you missed about the krusie ship about lt almost being in the realm of canon as during chapter 2 if Kris drinks the Susie tea it heals them to max health and Susie will commentating "stop looking at me like that" and Ralsei saying "they seem into it". At the end of chapter two saying that Kris should bring Susie to the fair is the only option to give unique dialogue

I think Asgore and Rudy is fun. And with a... weird amount of stuff in the realm of canon, tbh.

Potentially even more uncomfortable than Ralsei's resemblance to Asriel is the strong possibility that Ralsei is that headband with the little red horns that Kris used to wear. If that's the case, then Ralsei would essentially be the living manifestation of Kris' own identity crisis and feelings of isolation. The player forcing Kris to act so love-dovey toward someone who represents something to personal and painful just seems kinda cruel the more that I think about it. Kris needs to be allowed to come to terms with Ralsei and what he likely represents on their own terms; we can't just force Kris to get over their problems with a button press.

I like the idea about Ralsei being what Kris might want to be of feel like they need to be. Kris fits the commander character archetype, which is generally ignored but it's arguably a support role that lets you command the rest of the team. Ralsei fits the role of a healer (and Susie is both tank and DPS); the healer is always the class everyone wants on the team but also the least fun to play most of the time.

I think Susie x Noelle might just be a crush that stays a crush situation and would be definitely realistic as many people in Middle-highschool have had crushes that just stayed crushes and grew out of it.

i always liked sans and toriel as a relationship because of how unspoken it is. neither of them explicitly say anything about it, they just clearly enjoy eachother's company and i think it's really cute. like how sans decides to live in the ruins with toriel in some of the neutral endings

Regarding Kris x Ralsei, I think there's something we haven't considered. In the chances that the theory of "Ralsei knows Kris is being controlled", it's very possible that all the advances we make Kris do on Ralsei, he knows it's the player doing it. Just pretending that it's Kris doing all that for the sake of keeping the secret from the player. If true, could it be that Toby is going to have Ralsei confront the soul in the future, and give a mention to all the times we the player have been nice, if not loving (or rude) to him? At this point, I could see Player x Ralsei being the actual ship planned by Toby. It would definitely fix the issues that Kris x Ralsei had, even work from the weirdness of it and smoothly transition to that twist. What are your thoughts?

I like the “death of the author” analogy you brought up, rlly puts into perspective that theories about the game are only just theories until the next few chapters come out. Although I still have have a different perspective on some things you’ve shared. I disagree with the notion that it’s impossible to have Kris have a relationship due to it being moreso through the player. The whole premise of the Spamton questline is to emphasize the want of freedom, and how the player can’t see what [hyperlink blocked] is, seems to be (from clues of that quest’s conclusion) that Kris was vying for a release of being a puppet to the soul. It explains Kris’ condition post the Spamton fight, yielding no fruit from the situation, and instead seeing a potential outcome of what’s to come if they keep going down that path. Kris is already established as their own character (outside of player control), and I think a lot of their motivation to actively seek a way to free themselves is centered around Susie. A lot of Kris’ actions where they move outside of player’s control could be plausibly implied for Susie… (aside from the end of chapter 1 lol which turned out to be rlly anticlimactic) 1) Shielding attack from King 2) Sitting next to Susie at the end of ch.2 after Susie remarks that “it’s not like someone has to tell you to sit” which is something that goes under the radar imo 3) and obviously the bringing of the fountain, Kris arranging it so that Susie is there (and perhaps gaining motivation to do it in the first place as they ominously stands next to her before opening it?) Outside of those specific ‘actions’, there’s also post-Spamton interaction how Susie is the only one who confronts Kris about their feelings, and able to successfully cheer them up (and/or Kris asking for her jacket or a hug lol). There’s also this whole joking about apples, which is weird cuz Susie once used that as way to threaten Kris, but now is more of an inside joke between the two (Kris asking if Susie drank their shampoo). I appreciate if you’ve read this far, but I also wanna imply I’m not arguing that there’s for sure gonna be an established romanticized relationship for Kris n Susie by the end. I think at most, there’s still a strong possibility for a Zelda Spirit Tracks ending (where a young Link and Zelda walk away together after beating the big baddy, showcasing their closeness by holding hands). I personally think their dynamic could head in that direction due to their already-existing connection: being a sort of “outcasts” in hometown’s view, dark world adventures being “THEIR thing” from Susie’s own words, and of course adventures/hardships that’ll take place in the future. As far as Noelle goes, (don’t wanna make this too long lol) I think the notion of her “being alone” if Susie weren’t to reciprocate the romantic feelings back at her isn’t rlly plausible. Noelle isn’t the lonely outcast like Kris and Susie are (at least pre-darkworld). Her mom is hard on her, and I think the darkworld allows her to not just connect with hometown friends, but more importantly give her the ability to stand up to a towering figure (Queen and her mother being similar in this sense). At the end of the day, it’s all Toby’s vision, but all the theories and such are in good fun until the rest of the story comes forth. :-)

So basically, Asgore isn't allowed to love anyone else because his entire character is based around how he can't be with Toriel. Isn't that a bit hypocritical since you said Kris can't be with Noelle because it makes Noelle more misrable? Why can't Asgore be happy or find a relationship that helps him heal with his past trauma?

There is a large difference between kralsei and krusie, that being, most of the moments between kris and ralsei, are purely the players choice to do, without kris actually wanting that. From the other hand, between kris and susie, most of the times, kris says or does things purely out of their own will, and feel good doing it. That's why i think in the terms of actually being a good relationship that both sides enjoy, krusie would definatly be the better ship, since it's not forced by us, the players in any way.

Queenkaard is my favorite Deltarune ship. The vibes are just simply... Immaculate. Impeccable, even. Babygirl x Girlboss struggling to raise their new son while also trying to take over Castle Town for like, world domination or something. Anyways Queenkaard is adorable and I wish I saw more content for it!

This video seems to argue about what's canon and like sure but... ships don't need to be canon? A lot about shipping is interpreting and even altering canon because you think it'd be cute to explore if two characters were together. One shouldn't really have to care about what's canon, and at the end of the day most any ship, even canon pairings, won't be explored to your heart's content in canon media.

Just a comment I'd like to make about Krusie. I know you say that you wouldn't place it in canon but the game specifically tells us that not in words but through Kris' actions that they only want to be around or care about Susie. Chapter 1, Kris races to shield Susie when earlier in the day she threatened to eat their face off. Chapter 2, the only one who can make Kris smile is Susie. There's a scene where Susie outright flirts with Kris(in her own goofy way). It may not be OUT THERE like Suselle but Krusie I would say is at least partially canon in the fact that Kris genuinely only enjoys Susie's company in comparison to Ralsei or Noelle. TBH, after reading the story 'The new girl" from the Spamton Sweepstakes and seeing Noelle's POV on one of Kris and Susie's earliest interactions...it's clear to me that Kris is more annoyed than anything with Noelle's one-sided infatuation with Susie especially when she asks Kris where Susie is after they team up in Chapter 2 and gives her an annoyed look in response.

Whilst unlikely I'd love if Kris did have romantic feelings for Susie, and granted this theme of Kris being suppressed remains true, as Kris is given more freedom as the story progresses you can choose to silence them when it comes to expressing his feelings for Susie and snuff out any chance of it. It'd be such a cruel position to put the player in and easily one that could come off as cheap unless done very well, but man what a moral dilemma to put between the three and you.

I wouldn’t say either interpretation of Kris and Ralsei’s relationship is “correct”. Really, both interpretations, romantic or platonic, have evidence to support. I personally am bias towards the interpretation that Kris and Ralsei do have some type of chemistry happening, but that’s just because Ralsei is one of my favourite characters of any game 😅

Why do you think that Spamton hating clowns means that he isn’t Jevil’s ex? I feel this helps the ship’s case, he would hate clowns because he broke up with one on bad terms. That being said, I absolutely don’t think this ship is canon, it’s just really funny.

Since this is a rarepair, and I get like one chance to talk about it once per month, I'd like to rant about my favorite ship, Berdly/Ralsei. The main issue the two share is a lack of identity. With Ralsei, this is pretty easy to prove; he doesn't even know what "Ralsei-like" means, and has few motivations beyond "be a nice person who does nice things". Berdly seems to have a similar problem. He attaches 110% of his ego onto his grades, which is a sign that he didn't have much self-esteem before the spelling bee, and is genuinely surprised anyone wants anything to do with him after not being able to figure out the light puzzle. It's even a running gag that people can't remember his name, that's how little identity he has besides being smart. Now that we've established that they're both 5 minutes away from an identity crisis, let's examine how they play together. Ralsei is kind, supportive, a living teddy bear. Berdly might have to put up a 500IQ Rick and Morty enjoyer facade in front of everyone else, but he'd feel safe expressing vulnrability around Ralsei. Ralsei also does a lot of giving. Be it making cakes, rooms, or manuals, he's constantly trying to "earn" friendship. Since Berdly is, simply put, desperate for friendship (he fries his arm for the fun gang on the neutral route, *even if you beat him up every chance you get),* he'd offer Ralsei loyalty pretty much unconditionally. So, Berdly gets to develop self-esteem beyond getting A's, and Ralsei gets to stop worrying about not being "kind enough" to deserve friendship.

Why whine about ships based on this imagine worth they have from "how canon they are" but then toss that out the window when it comes to a non canon ship you like

I think people’s main issue with Kralsei is that people are already jumping to conclusion that Ralsei = Asriel, other than Ralsei blushing over our actions through Kris, him straight up saying “are you proposing?” when you give him the snow ring and the song “Acid tunnel of Love” playing on a scene were Kris and Ralsei are alone together are definitely trying to hint towards something, or at the very least a one-sided thing. Of course it’s gonna leave a bad taste in a lot of people’s mouths if you’re in the mindset that Ralsei is Asriel

I lived through both the frans vs soriel AND the sanscest shipping wars, I remember being told to die because of it. The deltarune fandom is sooo much more chill than 2016 undertale (probably because most of us aren't 13 anymore...) I think this video is good! (even if watching it made my fight or flight response trigger every minute or so, but that's a me thing haha) I agree that we shouldn't let fanon dictate the cannon, but I don't think cannon can be used to dictate fanon either. Cannon and fanon are two things that can independent from each other. If the undertale fandom taught me anything it's that fans can take something and RUN WITH IT... (... Like an alternate-universe sans being ship with another AUsans and then their AUchild being shipped with another AUchild of another pair of AUsans'.... Sanscest will never cannon and that didn't matter) I've don't really care about ships being "cannon" because to me the fun of shipping and that side of fandom is completely separate from the original media. And as for some ships being "bad" I don't care. There are two things I'm not comfortable with about Asgoriel. Asgore is giving his child flowers to give to their mother on his behalf. This is not something that's healthy for anyone involved, but especially not Kris. Along with that, Toriel has made it clear that while she will be polite to Asgore she does not want him in her life. The fact that Asgore can't respect that is downright creepy. I love both characters though and thats just my opinion have a nice day day :)

You're wrong, Toby Fox said in part of the Famitsu Column that he wanted to make a dating sim where you date a hotdog girl and this is an *obvious* reference to the fact that Spamton will team up with Mike and take our soul which means we control him and will end up dating Jevil's hotdog husband and sans will be our ketchup kid.

I think Toby had the idea for "Ralse" from the variable name "False" and added a little curve to the F to make Ralse. From there, he messed around with anagrams to realise adding an I could make an anagram that is a homophone for Azrael, the Angel of Death. Which figures into Deltarune's plot. Hence naming him Asriel. From that, he got the names Toriel (also pun on tutorial) and Asgore. Deltarune was shelved for Undertale, but it was still being crafted in the background.

Another really good video, especially in touching on the various ways the game allows the player to nudge Kris towards romance options they might not even want, and how creepy that is. I do think though that "Kris X Susie" will be one of the options the player can actively choose, along with "Kris X Noelle" and "Kris X Ralsei". The interesting thing about it is that, while it is what Kris might want (at least, according to their reactions ingame), it's definitely NOT what Noelle wants. So by making that choice, the player would inevitably create a love triangle conflict. You can't simultaneously make all parties happy in this situation, which comes back around to the feeling that the Susie X Noelle ship is too perfect. In fact, I think a love triangle might also lead into what might make Noelle an antagonist. Additional sidenotes: * The uncomfortable, forced romance between Kris and Noelle is also reflected in Spamton's lines at the end of the route: - "NO, I GET IT! IT'S YOU AND THAT [Hochi Mama]!" - "YOU'VE BEEN [Making], HAVEN'T YOU!" - "YOU'VE BEEN MAKING [Hyperlink Blocked]!" * I feel like Sans x Toriel might be one of the outcomes of the Chapter 3 weird route -- the other outcome being Asgore x Toriel (i.e. they get back together), or vice-versa. * Asgore x Rudy is odd. It feels more like it's played as a joke, but it's hinted at in Deltarune as well with the Beauty and the Beast roses.

The park is run by a billionaire CEO of a genetics company who would rather listen to investors than the scientists telling him the park is a bad idea. I think what the game is going for when it hints to ralsei x Kris is actually ralsei x player,all of the actions that trigger a response that hints to attraction of some kind are done by the player,ralsei might just simply not know or realise that kris and the player are two different entitles. unlike Noelle and Susie (who Kris definitely sees as close friends) they treat ralsei completely neutrally and sometimes even negatively,there's practically nothing in terms of Kris x ralsei from Kris's POV. something interesting could be done with this,with ralsei's true loyalty/friendship being to the player and not Kris.

I think that Ralsei and Kris are meant to be just friends. It's normal for friends to hug each other and feel really close, the same goes for siblings, doesn't have to be romantical at all.

I like Krilsei but let's accept the facts, actual Kris seems to not like anyone but Susie. Two things that support this is the Tea-ory and the Festival. Noelle Tea and Ralsei tea doesn't heal Kris anything. Similarly, when Susie asks you who you will go to the Festival with at the end of Chapter 2, if you choose Noelle or Ralsei Susie will comment on how you looked uncomfortable, and the only actual good choice is Susie.

Personally I like the Frisk x Chara content but where's the player x Gaster, literally perfect for each other, A being that transcended and was scattered across space and time; And a being that is able to form of a soul and control the human protagonist, able to save and load and have a whole life outside the world these characters grew up in. Both highly powerful beings, perfect for each other, but I have not seen anyone agree ;-;. Or even mention it. Gaster actively tries to get us the players attention, wants us to play and experience a world he is clearly fond of, truly romantic that he has prepared us to endeavor the journey he made just for us. Y'know what I could see as a majorly concerning implication towards ships, and could even come as soon as Chapter 3? Picture it: our main protagonists are all on some sort of weird reality dating show, and Kris is put in the spotlight of having to "choose who to go home with." This choice could be between any number of characters, but for sake of this example, we'll say they're forced to choose between Noelle, Susie, Ralsei, and Berdly. Keeping in mind that this is a heavily emotional, TV broadcasted moment, possibly with a narrator amplifying the idea of "This decision is entirely within their hands" and "who knows what they'll choose?" Only to have US, not Kris, make the decision, feels like the PERFECT way to take this concept of various possible ships and have a universal "nope" moment from Kris, causing them to freak out over our decision and RIP our soul out in front of EVERYONE, live TV audience included. This would not only spark loads of possibilities in the narrative (like Sans seeing a "Kris-like individual on TV) but would also derive a message NOT of "this ship is weird, don't do that" and moreso of the concept of "you shouldn't manipulate a character into a situation they aren't comfortable with", having Kris rip out our soul REGARDLESS of who we choose to ship them with. This is of course just a theory, but ultimately feels like the PERFECT way to take the whole "shipping characters with Kris" narrative in a way that sucker-punches the players, old and new, not for liking a SPECIFIC ship, but for forcing Kris into one in the first place. I didn't think of the blush or the hugs as romantic things. I just thought it was because Ralsei was having an interaction with someone he feels a close friendship towards, along with the fact he's a lonely goat boy who hasn't had any social interaction in a long time.

I think the relationship between Ralsei and Kris isn't actually ralsei and kris, but instead Raslei and the soul (A.K.A. you). Ralsei knows you are controlling kris, and he looks directly at you the player in the swan ride, by looking at the screen.

I don´t agree that Krusie is totally not canon because it seems that Kris likes Susie, remember that there is a very important part of the game that hints of Kris having their own personality, will and stuff under what we make them do. It is not sure that he loves Susie but is somehow hinted that he feels something special for her. Maybe it will stay onesided like that ooor maybe he only sees her as a new best friend like Asriel was, like a new sister who knows at this point. In the end maybe Kris will be able to do things appart of the player, we don´t know what willl happen with our control over him, or maybe their feelings toward Susie will be part of the conflict between Kris and the soul (the player). Maybe somehow they will try to find the way to talk to Susie or Ralsei without out control, and maybe in that way they will try to get rid of our control and the ship will be part of the story in that way even if it doesn´t happen. Is not very probable, I admit it, but I don´t think that the possibility of Krusie is totally discarded 100%. I am more of a Suselle person, but, I have to admit Krusie is still possible and a little bit hinted. With all the other stuff you said I would say that I agree! Seeing Asgore in a better position would be awesome, and Ralsei is a very very direct analog to flowey, and flowey in undertale was... well we know who he was. So, I think that this is a good and serious analysis about a very divisive subject inside the fandom, in general. I don´t think that Kralsei will end up being something hugely messed up, but is clear that is something Kris doesn´t want to do. I gave you a like :D!!! Regarding Susie and Kris, I had a idea that could make this work and add to the main conflict of deltarune: the player v.s. Kris. My theory is that Kris develops a crush on Susie, but Toby Fox specifically introduced us to the fact that Noelle has a crush on Susie in order to put a wedge between us and Kris. I once made a comment to someone that I didn't think Kris x Ralsei was bad, but then I thought about it some more and realized that, YEAH, it IS actually kind of weird. Like, it constantly is shoved and forced by options in Deltarune. It feels... well. Forced. Anyway, said person blocked me but honestly good for them, they're curating their online experience! Anyway, I don't really ship any UTDR characters in a serious manner. I used to ship Kralsei but in a sort of platonic way? (Like, not quite friends or romantic. In between.) I've tried to steer clear from it for now though. Spamvil is funny and is semi implied, I like it a bit. Kris x Berdly is silly, too, but I think they'd just be friends.

In my brain, ships with Kris make no sense simply because (in my headcanon) they're aroace. That's probably one of three reasons why Kris is uncomfortable with romancing Ralsei. One, they're repulsed by the concept of love. Two, they recognize how weird it is to be flirting with somebody who basically directly parallels their brother because, despite being adopted, they've only ever seen Asriel as such. Three, they don't like Ralsei. Full stop.

I don’t think you get shipping. You’re just presenting arguments for why you think a relationship isn’t likely to become canon, most of which I agree. But ships don’t need canon support. I literally ship Tony the Tiger/The Grinch, and I’m not sure what “canon” would even mean for that ship. My favorite Deltarune ships are Krerdly (which has 0 canon support) and Full Krusielle (which, as you’ve pointed out, has negative canon support in the Kriselle side). Shipping isn’t an act of interpretation, it’s an act of transformation.

Tackling Kralsei as a way to embrace the "you are the villain" storyline that the SOUL is heading towards with Kris, it could work pretty well. I'm not saying it should go that way, for all we know it might not and Toby might find a way to work around this that still taps into the theming in a way that feels thematically appropriate, but when I look at it all the more that way... there's good reason for us, as the player to want to do it, but to understand that Kris isn't consenting to any of this. Even if it has been stated that the SOUL/us and Kris cannot exist without each other for too long, the two of us are by no means the same person.

I made Kris hug Ralsei a few times because it seems like they miss Asriel. Can't wait for Asriel to come home from college, that poor boy went through so much in Undertale, I just want him to have a good life and good relationship with their family this time.
