I leant that Dividend paying companies are typically not going to grow in stock price as much and the overall market. But they do tend to be stable mature companies. I want to invest around 600K for retirement, is this good strategy?

There's nothing wrong with dividend investing in stable companies, but I recommend consulting an expert if you're looking to invest that amount for retirement.

I'm nearing retirement as well and have greatly benefited from working with a financial advisor. Since I didn't start investing early, I knew I couldn't rely on the compound interest from index funds. Interestingly, I've managed to earn more profit than some of my peers who have been investing for years.

This caught my interest. I worry that I have a couple more months before retirement, and I want to switch to using a financial advisor, but I don’t really know how to find one.

I've been an investor in Nvidia for the past six years now because I strongly believe in the company and in the stock, but now I've been thinking of redistributing my portfolio of about $560k and buy other stocks. and asset classes. Maybe buy Tesla? They are also doing great things in the AI space. Some digital currencies too. What do you think?
@ChrisTison224
@ChrisTison224 Ай бұрын
Not offering any particular advice, but I can assure you that both stocks still have growth potential. Re-distributing is not as hard as many people think it is. Ordinary investors lack the requisite level of diligence, so having a financial advisor on board is usually highly beneficial. In the market, this is how people generate enormous profits.>

When you invest in a fund, you lose your voting rights for the individual stocks held in that fund. Why does it matter? It matters because it gives the fund managers undue influence over the stocks they invest in. In the words of Larry Fink, "... it's your money, but it's my money..." This means that the fund managers can push political agendas instead of doing their fiduciary duty to make the stock holders money. Feel free to disagree, but giving up your voting rights means you don't have a say on who runs the company and how it is run. Even if you own one Share, if there are enough people with one share who think alike, policies can be changed, executives removed, or even directions set.

If you buy the S&P index you're not inflating the value of the 500th biggest company that you've never heard of; you are buying it in proportion to its market cap compared to all the other companies. And that market cap is set by the marginal individual company buyers and sellers. If there were NO individual company buyers and sellers, then the ratio among the various market caps would be temporarily frozen until, inevitably, individual buyers and sellers showed up to respond to the news re: earnings or other catalysts. And then those marginal individual company buyers and sellers would once again change the relative market cap weighting.

Most people I know set up with a broker. Mine also acts as my bank with debit card, checks and ATM (I use Walgreens). Fidelity, Vanguard, Schwab, TD and Firstrade come to mind but there are plenty of others. A portion of my paycheck goes to the account. I can move some to Roth, IRA or whatever so just invest right there in the cash account. All can be accessed on line and most have phone apps. Generaly they have a good set of research tools to help shop for business you want to own or a good fund or ETF. Money market funds, CDs, Bonds and bond funds are also available.

Everything you shared is available internationally, but being a person who lives in Thailand, I feel "left out" or "confused" on which would be the best step. I had originally seen you on Lewis's channel (your first visit. 4mil views - ya, it caught attention. I just watched you today (a few hours ago as of this posting - your second visit on his channel.) 1:30 It doesn't work the way you described, fidelity/vanguard/blackrock do not have power to add or remove a stock from a passive index fund, moreover in many cases these indexes are designed and maintained by other companies. fidelity/vanguard/blackrock just create funds based on 3-rd party indexes. Of course companies want to be included to index funds but indexes are supposed to put some requirements, which companies have to meet in order to be included to the index. If an index has requirements that do not benefit fund its share holders, the fund is doomed. BTW, that diversity ETF (CDEI) has only $29M under management, which is nothing.
