My mum was addicted to bingo, every day of the week and twice on Sunday. I remember asking for a new pair of shoes as the one pair I had were worn out. She said that if she won on bingo she would buy me a pair. I answered back saying that if she didn't go to bingo she could spend the money on my shoes. I got a slap for that.

This is probably your best video! My Mom weighed over 300 lbs and lost down to 150 lbs in her mid thirties and has never gained back more than 25 lbs. She also was a heavy smoker until age 51 when she began coughing up blood. That scared her so much that she quit smoking for good. She thought it was too late for her, but it wasn't. Food addiction is so hard - it took me 7 years of yo yo -ing but I finally lost 124lbs. I’m dealing with loose skin now, and I’m still overweight. Intermittent fasting, high protein and not eating fast food or prepackaged food is how I did it. I’ve kept my weight off for the past year and it seems I’m losing again. But I would have died if I wasn’t finally successful.

I am here to testify that what you are saying is TRUTH. My son started smoking and drinking in high school. I think he was smoking even in middle school. He became addicted to Vodca and was an alcoholic. A very FUNCTIONAL alcoholic. He could and did drink a lot and one would not know it. He developed a heart condition where his heart would rapidly beat so fast. About 6 years ago, that happened and he had to go to the ER and they used drugs to STOP and RESTART his heart. It was successful. He was told no more drinking, no more smoking, and no more energy drinks with this condition. On November 8, 2023 he collapsed in cardiac arrest. Ambulance got him to ER. They worked on my son for an hour and a half but it was too much time and he never regained consciousness. Now, I am a childless mother who will grieve forever. He has a 5 year old and a 10 year old daughter who will grow up without their daddy. My son was only 29. Please take addictions seriously. They can and will ruin lives.

I'm so sorry for your loss. My prayers are with you and your family. My 33 yr old son had a stressful computer job, drank energy drinks, drank a little alcohol and smoked pot every night before bed b/c he had insomnia. He went through the exact thing with his heart. In Nov., his heart beat went to 220 per min. It took them 36 hrs to get it to 90. All of this started 3 yrs. ago, within 24 hrs of his 1st 'arm punch'. After the 3rd one, the 'fast beat' would start up even while resting. He had heart surgery in Dec of 2023 and so far, the episodes have been minimal. I'm begging him not to get more 'punches' but he won't listen to me. He's had 'C-V' over six times in the last 3 yrs, so what's the benefit or point of getting them anymore?

My dad smoked for a period of 10 years. He quit when I was 12 (1982). He found out later in life that he had developed COPD. He had to go on oxygen and use a CPAP. He was in and out of the hospital in 2012-2013. The last hospitalization he was intubated and the doctors told me I may have some tough decisions to make. He recovered, but then died suddenly in April of 2014. He was living in an independent living senior apartment where they check on the tenants and he was found in his chair. I assume he fell asleep there without his CPAP and just stopped breathing during the night. He was 67. Cigarettes are poison.

My husband died at 54 of cirrhosis of the liver. Drank a fifth of scotch daily, towards the end a half gallon. Smoked 2 or 3 packs a day. Constantly worried that he wouldn’t have enough money for retirement. Spent as much as I made on addictions. His entire family is/were alcoholic and shopping addicts. When he died it was a relief because living with him was stressful as hell and I had to work through hate in order to grieve for him.

They blew on drugs and alcohol. She also is an extreme narcissist, and has screwed her children over for money many times. this is where my frugality comes from even though we can afford a lot of luxuries, I still refuse to buy them. I buy quality products that will last a long time, and we travel a lot, but I make my own coffee, I do my own nails I get my hair done for free at, a corporate facility owned by the hair company, the list goes on and on

71 years old here. I smoked 2 packs a day for 35 years. COPD was just one of my health issues. I had back surgery in the late 70s. Back then smoking was ok and I was actually able to smoke in my hospital room in Chicago. Started the bed on fire. I had two separate heart valve replacement surgeries. First one was to implant a mechanical aortic valve. When I was first told about my valve issue the doctor told me I had to stop smoking immediately which was two weeks ahead of the surgery. I stood outside the entrance to the hospital and inhaled my last two cigs before checking in. My recuperation was just awful most likely due to my lungs. Because of medicines I needed to take, I had to stop drinking. I still smoked for 5 years after that surgery. I later had to have the mechanical valve removed due to scar tissue around the valve. They implanted a bovine valve 4 years ago which allowed me to stop taking the blood thinner Coumadin ( 20 years). I had finally quit smoking 9 years ago. My recuperation was a snap because my lungs were clear. If a had all the money I had spent on booze and cigarettes over the years, I’d be in a lot better shape in my retirement years. No telling how many years to will lose due to poisoning my body

All these things can be broken down to the 7 deadly sins.... (1) pride (2) greed, or covetousness (3) lust, or inordinate or illicit sexual desire (4) envy (5) gluttony, which is usually understood to include drunkenness (6) wrath, or anger (7) sloth. Each of these can be overcome with the seven heavenly virtues: (1) humility, (2) charity, (3) chastity, (4) gratitude, (5) temperance, (6) patience, and (7) diligence ...Goodness we are in big trouble.

Addictions are big money! We all know there are drug cartels in other countries. What most don't know is that we have some of the world's largest cartels supported by our own taxes here in the U.S. Tobacco cartels and the sugar industry cartel is huge. Most Americans consume on average 26 tsp of sugar every day. There are more chemicals in one can of Soda that destroy more chromosomes in humans than LSD. Keep sharing the truth. Agree with most of what you've said. I'm a Muslim, and in Islam drinking alone is a major sin. Like a very serious sin that is frowned upon. The simple fact of drinking, not being drunk. Because it's the first step towards so much evil and damage. Consciousness is a gift, and people take it for granted and want to lose it for fun, it's so strange to not value your quality as a human so much that you'd want to lose sobriety and act as a sub-human. So the fact that getting drunk is so normalised in Western cultures is kind of really weird to me.

I am almost 72 years old and my secret addiction is buying books. I very seldom watch tv so I read and do crossword puzzles. I do research on my cell phone and listen to lectures, educational videos, prepping and medical videos. To most people that sounds harmless enough but I should be saving money for more practical things. I don’t even have enough bookshelves for all my books. There are times I can read a book or two a day. I am looking for a book on building bookshelves so I can organize my books more efficiently. I own 2 kindle and have thousands of ebooks also. That’s my way of handling stress or when I can’t sleep. Maybe I’ll work on that for lent. I am always afraid I am not learning enough and need to keep my mind busy and I still work 3 or 4 days a week. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Our species survived then thrived by sharing information. Studies show book reading builds neural connections in ways digital does not. I read both ways then add some gardening, love to cook, some sewing, text to both IRL and virtual contacts all over. Like this, it's still social interaction vital to our highly social species. Most of us spend decades of 10-12 hours of job, get ready, commute, lunch, errands enroute home. No one says, you're doing that too much. Used to read a lot more too.. Going by my experience you're probably fine,, can just make life richer by throwing in a couple new activities. I looked at the local alternative weekly, joined a couple art groups, a big quilters group. After March 2020, more virtual. Thought of putting a "Little Free Library" box out front? You'll send out what you've outgrown or taken what was needed, drive round neighborhoods & pick up some new kinds. I relate to you.

I think three meals a day came from the times in the USA when most people worked on a farm. Those people needed the calories because of the hard work they did.

Life is like a roll of toilet paper. Best description I have heard. I am 65 and I swear I was 25 just a few days ago, honest! I remember vividly at 25 thinking I had forever ahead of me and 65 was so far in the future. My roll is almost gone, I better try to use less squares?

So much truth here. I admit I am addicted to both coffee and food, as well as shopping at times. I used to minimize it in my mind since I wasn’t doing drugs, but these addictions are just as harmful to myself, my health, my finances and relationships. Sometimes we need to hear the truth, and I think that’s why so many of us are drawn to you. We are tired of people sugarcoating things to us because they don’t want to offend anyone. It’s actually a selfish and unloving thing to do. I wish anyone in my family or group of friends would’ve just spoken up to me years ago. I’ve never met you but I feel like in some ways you’re that person. So truly, thank you 💛💛

I used to live in a cheap apartment while making $28,000 a year. I don't understand how people can spend hundreds of dollars on cigarettes and alcohol. I'd spend probably $3 a week on beer. Once a week, I'd eat some Mexican food with a large bottle of beer---and I often couldn't finish the bottle in one day. I also couldn't afford to buy a car at the time, so I would catch the bus to work. I also rode a bike. I really had to be careful about how to spend my money because I had so little of it.

My mother died when I was 2. She was 29. She had smoking related diseases. Family glossed it over for years until I figured out that Emphysema is caused by smoking and NOTHING else. I never smoked. But alcohol is a different story. I was in that for decades. And quitting that also changed my financial situation.

Addictions go beyond drugs, alcohol or cigarettes, too. Computer gaming helped to break up my marriage. Also, so sorry how you lost your mom. My mom died of COPD from smoking at age 54. My dad also smoked and drank and died of heart attack at 45. I hate drugs because I’ve seen so many friends destroyed by them.

I can't get out of debt they kept changing interest. I was working two jobs. 7 am to 11 pm. Went through thousands of dollars due to nephew being on drugs.
