What are the dark sides of living in London? London is such a city with a brand name. London is indeed one of the most economically advanced cities in the world. A marvelous city where things are working. For those who love a decent city with all amenities of life and still serves as an industrial and cultural center, London the capital and largest city in England in the southeast is a city to consider. The metropolitan city near the mouth of the River Thames England has the loyalty of residents and others dreaming to taste the modest way of life in this exemplary European city. Oh! My London! Yet, this is not to propose that everything about London is just fine. The dark side of London, if spotlighted, may scare conservative individuals away from the city.
Okay, as good as the city is, let me show you the dark of London in this video.

Spent 4 years in London as a student. Absolutely loved the city. I went back for 6 months 2 years ago, again loved it. For me the gastronomy is even better than Paris. I'm about as black as you can get I never once experienced racism in London. Racism does not come to my mind when thinking about that wonderful city.

I grew up in London in the 60's and 70's fantastic. We were left alone. Plenty of jobs. No pathetic rules and algorithms, and mad restrictions.( Not to mention todays compliance by the stupid.) Lots of promiscuity, se shops, slim women, need i say more???

That may depend where you go in the city. There are some racist people in certain parts and they tended in my experience to be not first or second gen Londoners, but older ones

What are you on about? London is many things, but it is not a “racist city” Anyone watching this who is unfamiliar with London, rest assure, you’ll be accepted regardless of race, class or sexual orientation. London is one of the most culturally diverse places on earth, where the majority celebrate and embrace our differences. The narrator also failed to mention the legion of people that came out to support the Black Lives Matter protests, and continue to support the cause, regardless of their own different ethnicity .

Go outside of London and see real racism and segregation in other UK cities like Birmingham and Manchester and Liverpool highly racist and in thier segregation is real the older generation play thier part in brainwashing.

I have been living in London for the last 21 years . On a daily basis, I see how well Londoners are living in racial harmony. I see kids of all races mixing together as people not as members of different ethnic groups . I see the mayor of London and the number of senior ministers in the government from ethnic minorities as examples of the opportunities, irrespective of race, available to people in London.

On the surface tolerance works well enough for people to live their lives and earn a living. Underneath that most ethnic and religious groups stick to their own.There is no wider sense of community and the population is very transient.It is good for the young and those interested in cultural stuff but most want stability and community as they grow older.It isnt a friendly place.

I have lived in three different areas in London and I agree with you that a wider sense of community is not that strong in some areas but it varies from being virtually non-existent in some areas to street parties and neighbours pulling together in other areas. Also, I don't find London that unfriendly. I work on the basis that "the manner of my approach to people determines how I am received". I often find t that an open and friendly approach in London leads to warmth, friendliness, kindness, and a bit of banter in return. @FCJMark

I beg to differ with your statement on many accounts. The McPherson report stated Britain is institutionally racist and no report has debunked this report, or suggested things have changed. Last year there were BLM marches where ethnic people showed solidarity in the racism experienced in the US as racism exists in Britain too. Whilst you gave a person view there is no evidence to support your notion. The British governments own report states that racism in Britain has increased, especially after Brexit. Sorry but the evidence does not support you and neither do I.

You seriously think people would pay smugglers thousands of euros and risk their lives to claim asylum in countries which which were racist or discriminatory in any meaningful sense? Most Western countries struggle to keep people out

Until the pandemic TfL was self-funding; it's highly unusual for the transport system of a major European capital not to be subsidised by central government. Of course as soon as the PM instructed everyone not to go anywhere people stopped buying tickets and the government was surprised that the system went broke. They really should have seen it coming and budgeted for it.

Where did he say 5 in order of servarity or starting with the worse He NEVER said racism was the biggest problem. He was listing 5 problems He just so happened to mention racism first out of the 5.....which is something to consider if you visit or move there. i honestly wouldn't say London when Liverpool is so terrible its scary.

I agree there is a problem with racism in britain towards ethnic groups and thats unacceptable, on the other hand I hope when we talk about racism we include the biggest form of racism in this country is towards native born English people, living in a multi-cultural part of britain my self i can 100% confirm native English people are persicuted when the police force,nhs and local councill positions post jobs for (bame) people only basically meaning that the colour of your skin is more important in that job role than actuall ability and skill set for that job is insainly racist towards none (bame) people this comment section isnt big enough to explain the full extent of racsim towards native English people. There will be no replys as the truth needs no argument, whats understood is said and whats said is true, god bless.

@@scottjones8030 I hate when people do that. There is no "biggest form of racism" since there is no competition. Racism is what it is...all bad. I can't label a worst but I can state facts. people of color are 3x more likey to be arrested in the UK and only make up 14% of the entire population creating a need to get more representation on the police force. When there is a push to get people of color into certain positions its not done to hurt white people its done as an attempt to fix a bias. Persecution is when you're meet with ill-treatment or hostility...jobs trying to promote fairness is not an example of that. I understand people only know what they deal but there are other sides here.

@@hootsaidtheowl so are you trying to tell me that anyone can apply for theese positions as long as your not white is not a form of racism, and could you explain to me that if people of colour only make up 14% of the population why are people of colour over represented on television adverts im genuinly not beeing racist bust stating facts i dont want to see all white people in all jobs and every job but when its clear that the white race is 100% under a cultural attack in the west and its wrong the same way its wrong to attack peoole of colour for there skin colour there has to be a middle ground i feel like were bolth beeing manipulated by the elites

Where did you go? Just want to know. One of my colleagues left London for Bangkok where I was working. He said the people are very cold over there, no one really chit chats with strangers for example. I kind of found it odd that a white british guy would hate london, but I guess everyone's personality isn't always a match to the place.

I lived in London for 40 years. I moved out to the USA after retirement. Living cost is very low here. Renting a flat is easy and cheaper than in London . People are friendly and helpful, and at the same time one can have one’s privacy. I love it here. If you’re healthy and can afford to pay your health insurance, life is great. Everything depends on the State you choose to live.

I'm from the UK, parents were born in London. It's overpriced, dirty and overated in my opinion. No idea why anyone would want to live there... but then again, I hate cities.

@@johnkelly1083 money - all the best paid jobs are in london. I see buying property in london as a huge investment. Bought my house in Clapham in 2001 for 220k - it’s now worth 2.5m. Im 49 & retiring at the end of the year.. Try doing that in Blackpool.

I'm not from England but I've lived around London, the midlands and the northeast. I would say London is the most accepting place where you can express who you are even if you're extremely flamboyant and never have I ever experienced any racism. Whereas up in the North yes I have been told to "Get outaf me country", but at the same time I have met the BEST and MOST welcoming people in the entire UK (why I have been staying up North for a long time). There are dark sides and brilliant sides to each place but England is one of the best places I've ever lived in. However, I have to say London transport delays SUCK -.- missed so many flights because of this.

Oh my god. This person clearly has not lived in London. I live n Brixton and have lived in London all my life. My brother is black and he has never experienced racism. He went to Cambridge and is doing very well. Black Lives Matter was in a pandemic and in response to what happened in America

Black lives matter protests may have been triggered to George Floyd's death, but I guarantee you we were also protesting against institutional racism within the UK. Racism is a lot more covert here so it may look different to what we see in America, and that makes it a lot easier for non Black people to ignore and downplay.

My father was from London. I've been there 6 times. I've always noticed the cameras. Pop used to tell me it's because of "The Troubles". I myself have always felt incredibly safe in London.

25 years living in London, only two major problems: 1) property, buying a flat or renting a decent room and 2) dealing with the home office for papers, visa etc. The rest in a random order: racism, parking, transport, hospitals, schools, clubbing, security, crime, job market, -> you can deal with it succesfully according to your own C.V. or behaviour, cultural level, general preparation.

Racism is everywhere, not only London. You should try Paris. Walking in the pavement can be dangerous. At least that was my experience when I was there. I was just minding my business walking & enjoying the view when out of the blue I was shoved aside by a Frenchman. Otherwise Paris is tolerable.

London is a great city and yes racism exists in London/UK as it does everywhere. That said the city overall is diverse and people from all walks of life can find a niche in the city.

The racism is very systemic it shows especially in the housing job and welfare system it's in your face actually they don't care to fix it as canada is doing right now. And mind you I hold two passports so I am able to see the difference. That's why I live in canada and visit the UK once a year

I love London! I always have a great time and everyone is so friendly. I was struggling with my luggage, during my visit during Christmas getting off the tube and a guy (white) helped me and I didn't ask. As many times I have been, I've never had issues. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist. This is just my experience.

I don’t really understand what you mean by ‘core Londoners’. I’ve lived here all my life, and it’s a melting pot of cultures, creeds and races. And it’s a patchwork of places. It’s so big it’s difficult to think of it as one place. The suburbs are generally pretty friendly. Few people, except the very rich, live in the very centre - it has a huge transient population of tourists, so like most capital cities, can be quite anonymous, but beyond the centre are communities much like any other. Of course, the sad thing is that throughout the world there’s room for more mutual understanding…but I don’t think London is particularly racist. Oh, and the rain, yes, England generally is a rainy place - ‘tho ‘don’t think London has a higher rainfall than anywhere else in the British Isles; the North has the highest recorded rainfall, not the South. I could go on… This is a bit of an strange video. I didn’t get to the end of it; too biased and negative. Odd. I wonder what motivated this guy to make it? Just seems like a moan- fest. Rather sad.

Oh I faced racism in London from black Americans only to be specific I lived there for 3 years. The first was in the tube where a woman pushed me for no reason as I was the only one standing in the tube and not in her way and shouted to me "move you white ass b****, the second was me and my friend went to Hyde park for walk with her baby that is half black (she's White and her husband black), and three women there asked her if that was her baby and she responded yes and explained and then they start to shout at us that we steal their men 🤔😒 , thank God the were black English people there among others and put them in their place .

@@noneya1238 the definition of racism is racial prejudice. prejudice and racism are equivalent. white ppl don't typically experience systemic racism, but if someone is being mean to anyone for their race, then that's racist. it doesn't matter what the person's race is.

The only significant thing wrong with London is that property (purchased or rented) is crazily expensive and for most people higher wages don't compensate for the fact.

By far the worst aspect of London is the cost of housing, hotels, transportation, and dining out. Even a stopover at LHR and going into the city by train and back can cost over $200 if you do anything. Decided that my earlier tours of London were enough and not worst the cost of visiting again. I have even heard some billionaires complain of the expense.

I grew up in London, it is VERY expensive. Even though the wages are higher it doesn’t keep up with the cost of living here for the majority of people. I was recently back there and went on a night out and it was £12 for a double rum and coke that’s unheard of in any other city in the U.K. thought it summed up how expensive London is

The wages are higher if you go through university and then on a course to extend your knowledge in certain area. Then your wage will rise and rise. Life in London is expensive bit it was reduced to be equal to the wages which was blown out to bits recently cause of the coronavirus pandemic and all the lockdowns that forcibly closed shops, sent many foreigners home for a long period of time and ruined the business circulation London had before that! So its entirely normal if one frozen salmon fillet piece to be £4 if your wage is £2,500 a month. Also an accommodation of £600 pcm is fine if your wage is £3,000 a month. Its a bit tough for the self employees as today they're working for good wages while tomorrow they might get suspended and in search for another job while the employees are on a good position cause they're anchored for a certain company and even if they're not called for work they still gonna get paid. Pluses for self employees are they can leave a workplace immediately if the workplace doesn't give them what they want as there's no contract! Lets go back to the topic. I've lived in southern Spain as well. My accommodation was 130 euro per month (no gas, electricity or other taxes included) but my wage was 700 euro per month. You see? Its called balance and whoever wants to jump higher needs to work harder. Which means study and go through courses, get your certificates then negotiate about your wages and show them your unique skills that you've learned through the courses. If the wage is still insufficient to you, then start your new company! Life will always be expensive everywhere if you're a regular worker! I lived 9 years under a communist regime and you're not allowed to grow and learn. They only needed cheap regular workers who only work, sleep, work, sleep, work and that's it for life! Now people have a chance to grow!

Also, if we all got well educated and certified, who would do the low tier jobs? London is apparently such a great city that you need to pay for the opportunity to live here.

@@kasskath3578 Of course its a shared accommodation in zone 3 or 4 and most of them are double rooms. What do you want? A fancy new 3 bedroom flat at King's Cross just for you? That's £2,000pcm (triple that) and its normal. London is a city of business and opportunities and its separated on classes. Almost everyone came to live here to make money. That's what I mentioned. If anyone wants to rise their wage they need to push their limits by starting to study and learn, get educated, certified and start their own business. Those who don't wanna do it are still living in London cause they know so well that they'll be way better in London than anywhere else. Its that simple. The lower tier jobs with the lowest payment you could still save money. In my country your wage barely cover electricity and water bills, then your parents are helping. I know a family that the husband's monthly payment disappears immediately for bills and the wife's monthly payment goes for their kid while studying, monthly payments for the new air-conditioner, fuel for the car... basic stuff like that. If one of them stops working (gets suspended) as it happens often, the company don't care how you will handle that and there is almost no job anywhere in the town I was born. While in London I've already been like that. One year - 9 months working, 3 months resting. Another year - 6 months working, 6 months resting going back home, leaving money to my family so they can live better and I still have money for me to live better. During the covid pandemic I had 3 working months for the whole 2020 and the British government helped with grants. In my country most people were suspended for the whole year without getting any money cause even if the European Union gave something it was taken by the corrupted government. Do you have any idea how these people survived one year without getting any money aid? Honestly I would prefer the so called expensive life London offers.

Miami and Noo York both get more rainy days than London. It doesn't rain that much in London, but you cannot forecast the weather mid to long term. May next year could be 25C and sunny, or 15C and overcast.

Daniel I’ve looked at those stats & they’re misleading, They get more rain because it rains harder, rainstorms, not more rain on more days, Miami gets way more sunny days as does nyc, that wouldn’t make sense if they also got more rain days, because they don’t, they get more rain in terms of actual rain, rain is also needed to clear the sky hence London grey sky, nyc also gets lots of snow which is included as rain

I’ve been to London a few times. I absolutely love it there. The last time was the only time I witnessed any crime, and that involved a guy who snatched a lady’s purse. He had so many guys running after him down the street that he dropped the purse, tried to intimidate everyone by standing his ground, then ran for his life. By far my most favorite city to visit.

I lived in London for about 8 months back in the mid 1980's - when I was seconded to work there from my own country, by my employer. I was earning roughly the same amount of money in London, as I would have back home - but did find the cost of living very high when it came to rent, food, utilities etc - so was not saving as much money as I would have back home. At first I lived with relatives in Ealing, then moved for a very short time to Earl's Court, then to Waltham Forest on the other end of the city. I generally enjoyed my time living & working there - & was there in both summer & winter. In winter, I found the very short daylight hours took a little getting used to (it would be dark by around 4pm). I travelled to work at an international bank in the city centre each day by either British Rail or the underground, & must admit, I did find the city rather dirty, compared with my own county - but I never actually saw any live rats in the city. The underneath of my fingernails would be very dirty by the end of the day, & whenever I blew my nose, my handkerchief would be full of black stuff - signifying that the air I was breathing in, was obviously not too clean. This was something that I had never experienced when I had previously lived in Spain for some months - or when I subsequently lived in west Germany for several months. It seemed like London was dirtier or more polluted than other European cities. I never personally experienced any incidents of crime while I was in London - though I must admit that I was always very careful. In the last 40 years or so - I thought things may have changed & improved - but it seems some things have remained the same.

But the daylight hours were even shorter still in the UK, with it being quite dark by around 4pm - which immediately made me think it must be time for dinner - but when I looked at my watch I was surprised to discover it was only around 4pm!

However, I found London's noise, grime, and crime made it an utterly soul-destroying dump. The parks are lovely, and there are plenty of parts of town that are fine- just like any other place. ‘retired now, but a very ordinary job, and despite the cost of housing, food prices are absolutely fine, and day to day living pretty okay. Like anywhere, London has its pros and cons… and most of us Londoners are just ordinary folk, living very ordinary lives…

I am from New York and I got to stay in north London about 10 years ago .. I am a black American one thing that struck me was the diversity of the community and in my opinion the pound stretched further than the dollar .. I can see that London has changed since I last been and though I probably wouldn’t go back I do have a soft spot and get nostalgic to go for my nightly walks through crouch end ..

I remember as a 3-4 year old growing up in Earls Court. The 'smog' was terrible. The whole city was black. We left to to live in 'Basildon New Town' then Leigh-on-Sea and then migrated to Perth, Australia in 1964. It was the best thing ever. In 1985 while working in Saudi Arabia I returned to visit London and the other places I used to live. I couldn't believe that London had been cleaned and was white rather than black with soot as I remembered it to be. The other places looked at if I'd only been gone for 6 months. Almost nothing had changed. This was so different to Oz where the growth is so much more dynamic being a migrant country. Having now been to more than 50 countries and having lived and worked in many, at 70 I am relaxed living in the paradise of Vietnam. The West in general has been destroyed by wokism and minority groups like rabid feminism, social justice warriors, climate change nutters, and other n'er do wells. Go woke and go broke, folks.

I used to think it was the best city too, but now it is way too expensive to live and work in, commuting is a nightmare, going out costs a fortune, and all the relentless building of luxury developments have turned interesting and unique parts of London such as Soho, Spitalfields, Shoreditch and Camden into bland, generic, over stylised hubs. It's very sad.

Nearly everything you said is correct but only for the West End , the majority of Londoners only go there for work , museums , galleries & the theatres , most people around are tourists & it IS a rip off area but all the big names are there so I suppose that’s why they go , for the shopping ! Nobody but the very rich can live in Belgravia , Mayfair & their neighboring areas , we all live a ride away on the tube or buses , taxis are prohibitive! My partner is half half & I’ve many West Indian friends , I’ve never experienced racism ever!

I used to stay for several weeks at a time in a friend's flat on Old Kent Road. I would shop for groceries at the Tesco up the road. I was amazed at how cheap buying food in a supermarket was. A block of cheese that costs 9 dollars in Toronto cost the equivalent of 2 dollars in London. 3 quarts of grapefruit juice for 1 pound! amazing. if you eat in pubs, the food is reasonable and if you drink in a Wetherspoon's pub the beer is cheap too. The people are solid and it doesn't take long to make new friends.

Compared to some of the other issues that are in other cities around the world, these are nothing, however, I feel the topic around racism in London is now more open to discussion and can be resolved with more awareness brought to it, unlike other countries & cities where it feels almost taboo to talk about it. Basically, more work needs to be done, but compared to other cities, London is certainly more progressive. Currently, I believe moped theft (plus snatch and run) mixed with organised crime and knife crime with the youths living mostly in Greater London (not to be confused with the central area known as the City of London) is more of an issue than the combined list you have here. I have lived in a number of cities around the UK & EU, and have started living in Barcelona in 2019 with the plan of coming back to London in the next few years. I feel that my point of view is justified somewhat.

I was in London in early 90s, Oxford Street was happening with HMV and Tower Records stores blasting out latest top 20 hits from their speakers, it was like having street parties everyday. I was there again in 2019, HMV was gone, Oxford Street was relatively quieter. I really miss those happening atmosphere during the 80s and 90s.

I still can remember it till now. When I went back in 2019, that vibe was no longer there. Oxford Street is still full of people but it feels 'empty'.

Some big names in radio and TV started at Radio Top Shop. Andi Peters, Adrian John, that guy who was on Capital FM and went on to do hypnosis shows.

Life inn all major cities sucks if you're not super rich, by this I mean in the top percentile for disposable income. No point in having all these things to see, do and enjoy when you cannot afford anything.

I’ve lived in Kensington (off Barons Court) and in Leeds for the past 3 years and have never had any racial issues. Most of my mates don’t even look like me…

I’m a multimillionaire (net worth £6 million) and I feel poor in London. 2 bed flat in Mayfair cost anywhere from £3 million to £30 million.

1) Racism is everywhere, whether you're in England or Africa. 2) Weather is a personal preference, just because you do not like the weather does not mean its a "dark side" of London, I for one love rain and I think the previous generations knew that it rained a lot because London looks vibrant especially in rain, its a great place to live in all weather conditions. 3) Cost again, is high but thats for the people who did not pay attention in their schools. 4) Trust me, I know even dirtier places than London, its beautiful even the most worst looking parts compared to most of the countries people migrate from. 5) Surveillance is in every country and honestly it does not matter, if you're not doing anything illegal then what's it to you? 6) Traffic is something I agree is bad but its not straight up a "dark side". There, solved your issues.

1. London is slightly racist 2.The weather is bad there 3 some people struggle at school due to learning disabilities not there fault it is extremely expensive 4 it can be dirty 5 so your happy to be watched constantly it not about being a criminal it the principle 6 traffic is awful

I wanted to live and work in London because of the better wages. Then found I could never afford a holiday because rents were absolutely astronomical, so I left again,

A huge public transport system wouldn't work.how can hundreds of shopping bags be put on a train? And don't forget,you do have to keep on eye on your own shopping.

I lived in London for 6 years as a student in the late 70's / early 80's. I absolutely loved the place then and still do. It is the most racially diverse, cosmopolitan and tolerant city I have ever been to. And every time I go back it never fails to delight, surprise, amaze me - it just knocks my socks off! The regeneration of the area around Kings Cross is stunning as is the revitalised and gloriously restored Battersea Power Station and surrounding development. The last West End show I saw was Moulin Rouge at the Piccadilly Theatre - a world class production in a truly world class city.

London is still great...it is the number 1 city for most people...London will be great if you can afford it...moved here sometime back with no regrets...people are friendly...London dirty? Should see Paris or Brussels...expensive? Should visit Monaco or Geneva...thieves? They are everywhere...but really love London minus the politics

Not so dark in my opinion, I would love to live in London. They say you can live there your whole life and never see it all. It's one of my favorite cities. Side note; I grew up in Seattle and Portland and never owned an umbrella, what's a little rain?

As a current Seattleite my first thought was, "But people with umbrellas are obviously tourists... I'll stick with my Gore-Tex jacket or just a thick hoodie."
