As someone with anorexia who has been underweight for almost one decade, I agree with this so much - There were points when I was do afraid to see my weight that I begged for it to not be included in any discharge letters or general medical documents (though only in psychiatric settings, even my highly disordered mind knew better than to bother any other doctors with it), and thankfully my request was denied most of the times because it IS a very important information when you're struggling with an eating disorder. Which these people most likely are as well, just that in their case, it's binge-eating disorder. A doctor should never give into a patient's wish for "comfort" in situations like this one, especially if the weight of the patient is actually dangerously high, and not bordering on the lower end of average weight.

the idea of body positivity was to accept things that you CAN NOT change and are out of your control. Scars, deformities, weird coloration, legit disabilities like being in a wheelchair....learning to accept that which you cant change is good. Some women. We should not generalize all women. And about the hight thing. Yes, some women only like tall men, just like some men only like short, small women. Or the opposite, tall women. It seems that only men are allowed to have preferences. Every time a woman says they like certain kind of men, with certain looks, they are called shallow, especially by men. God forbid they say they are mostly attracted to tall men. Shorter men take this as some sort of direct insult, when it's not....just because some women love tall men doesn't mean all do. I know shorter men who have a girlfriend or are married, and one of them is shorter than their wife. I am pale redhead, I have accepted that not all men are attracted to pale redheads, I don't take it as a personal attack towards me if some men are not interested in me because of my skin and hair color. After all, everyone should have a right to have preferences, no matter if they are a man or a woman.

Well it was imported from the North American Indians I believe who smoked stuff some for medicinal purposes, and became very popular in Europe as it may actually help ward off flu. So if you want the population to catch covid and go get vaccinated it does make sense to go anti smoking. According to everyone around me, they’re all vaccinated but all get covid saying thank God I got vaccinated. I smoke, didn’t get vaccinated because too much rates with me as odd, and not that I even bother to test for it, but have never had covid. I had one reasonably heavy cold last October but nothing serious, cleared in a week. And those vaccinated are like, thanks to being vaccinated it was only like a heavy cold…how do they know it wouldn’t have been like that anyway? I had to leave my previous job as a few kept pestering me as to whether I’d been vaccinated yet, said it was none of their business, and that was it, they said I was putting them at risk not getting vaccinated. My father was a diplomat, actually part of British intelligence, at times, a Government advisor, mostly to Margaret Thatcher and the result is actually that I do not take Government at face value. Care about us??? It makes me laugh people think that… Of course, result is I’ve lived abroad a lot, third world, even communist Moscow…I didn’t need all the locals to be vaccinated for my vaccines to work. Able to travel most of the world today with no need for inoculations, it made me realise how staggeringly ignorant people are about vaccines and disease today. You can tell them almost anything and they’ll believe it. If you ask me, Government only supports woke because it suits their agenda. There’s logic in their madness. They ain’t stupid. These people are what they would term useful idiots…get them in the work place too.

I was in the Body Positive movement in the beginning of popularity around 2010-2012 to 2014. And have inside scoop. I weighed 280lbs & lost 140lbs in 2014 & only gained 20lbs in the pandemic but I’m working on it. So I’ve maintained it. I had a lot health issues and I wanted to be able to be better mother to my son who was a toddler at the time. When I started losing weight, I was harassed, doxxed, bullied, targeted, made posts about me specifically, blocked by the women that were my “friends” they told I hated myself and I fell for diet culture. These people hate each other, hate themselves, hate thin women more than anything. They gossip and cry about being fat. I felt so awkward after I began to see the truth. They called me fatphobic for losing the weight. Oh well. I have been a much better mother in much better health in SOOOOO many ways. It’s PAINFUL ALL THE TIME being obese. It hurts and it makes you so tired bc everything is takes so much more effort carrying hundred(a) of extra pounds on your body. I will never let that happen again!!! *Edit* I forgot to add the crappy diet and so much body weight=desire to eat the amount of calories and more to maintain that fat. It’s a sickness for sure. It’s disordered eat and I’m happy I got help!

I think some of the obese people in the movement have actually forgotten how GOOD it feels to be a normal weight. They're so used to being restricted in their movements, so used to being literally weighed down by fat, by having less reserve in their lungs, having stiff joints, etc., that they have no real concept of what actually feeling good and healthy and energetic is like. It's such a distant memory for many of them, they just don't know (anymore) what they are missing. It's ironic that some of them will harass others who make a decision to reclaim their health-they are engaging in the exact same behaviors exhibited by mean thin people that have made their own lives miserable. They hypocrisy is staggering. Good for you for taking your healthy life back.

I just will never try to downplay how unhealthy it is if I'm on the subject with someone. I'm glad you recognize this is an important issue and I really do hope you make little changes here an there so you don't classify as morbidly obese anymore. I think switching to a vegetarian diet would change your weight drastically overtime. I would start there and then implement some exercise a little later, a lot of people try to go hard and diet and exercise at the same time to start their journey, I say just start small and start with just dieting at first so it doesn't hit you so hard. The only thing I do need to say is when an overweight person does really have a medical issue (not related to being overweight) they are very often just told to loose weight and not testing is done, no further investigation is done. I am a person who was told for a very very long time to just loose weight then I finally found a doctor who looked beyond my need to loose weight and discovered I have a thyroid disease, PCOS, and Lipadema. All things that cause a person to be overweight. I’d always eaten healthy and was a very active person. I’m still battling obesity and would love my current weight to reflect the amount of food I eat but it doesn’t. If it did I’d be thin. However this is the life I’ve been given and it is my response to it that matters. Right now I’m struggling but I know that things will get better. I trust God for that.

Also, doctors do not shame (at least real professionals) For example my dentists told me when I was younger, that I never should avoid the dentist no matter what state my teeth are in. My grandma was morbidly obese. I still saw her as beautiful, because she was my grandmother! But she died at a young age, because of her obesity, and I really wish that she had been able to lose the weight, so that I could have had more time with her. I also know two couples who were a little bit fat when they got married, and now they push each other to morbid obesity, and it REALLY bothers me.

Wanting to be fit isn't automatically conforming to "the narrative," that's absurd. But sure, try to make it sound cool and subversive not to exercise to look better.

Plus the narrative is body positivity, being fat, being a victim etc. Exercise is now “right wing “ wtf

I worked as a Registered Nurse in the most obese town in Australia for 14 years. The obesity loving body positivity movement is not ok. These people suffer terribly. It might seem ok when they're 'well enough' to create influencer videos but when they're unable to move because they're sick or injured it's an ordeal. Think 6-8 staff members sliding the patient from bed to CT table, multiple staff members to hold up a leg or an arm, multiple staff to provide bed baths or help shower. It's incredibly sad and I believe it's in no way cruel for health professionals to encourage obese individuals to lose weight and make healthy choices, it's by far the most loving and caring thing they can do. Not only that but the effect on health care staff is profound. Increased risk of back injuries and long term effects for sonographers scanning patients. It becomes an occupational health and safety issue and that's no exaggeration. The reality of the outcome of obesity is heartbreaking.

Good cultures - ones with grandparents-tell you “This is bad for you, don’t do it!” Instead we have advertising and influencers that don’t give a rat’s ass about you.

Yes! Thank you for that comment. I'm a RN in Poland working oncological surgery unit and it makes me absolutely furious to know how much glorifying obesity and the fat acceptance movement costs the public health care system. The staff workload, the amount of additional tests and consults, complications, length of hospital stay in comparison to patients with healthy body weight is beyond crazy. People pretend that it's their body - their choice but they're never the only ones affected by that. In fact at some point they become a burden on society. I don't expect everyone to be thin but there is a huge difference between overweight and obesity. It doesn't happen overnight, even with medication or underlying health problems that make it easier to put on weight or make it more diffcult to loose it - there's still plenty to do when it comes to lifestyle choices to prevent obesity. But it's easier to preach that the world is fat phobic instead of taking responsibility.

The last time i travelled on a plane it was a 14 hour long flight, if i had to spend those 14 hours sitting next to an obese person that took their seat and half of mine i would be FURIOUS. If you think im being fatphobic i literally dont care, if you want to affect your life, fine, but dont affect mine

Both sides are conflating not bullying and discriminating against fat people with pushing obesity as healthy or good. A doctor telling you your obesity is a health problem isn’t bullying and someone calling a fat person trying to work out at the gym a pig and making them cry is not helping.

As an obese person, there's nothing positive about being fat. I can't get out and do things I enjoy because I lack the energy to do it and I get tired quickly. I am working on weight loss but I wish I never let myself get this way to begin with, it's not a good thing.

i am a HUGE BINGE EATER. i love food. if i were a thick influencer with the money rolling in, it would be really hard to curb my appetite (food can be like a drug if you're an addict). and imagine alll the doctors and my friends coddled me too!! also the doctors would be saying my weight DIDNT AT ALL contribute to any health problems i would have?!? that is straight up lying! i know it's nice to feel good but it's feeling good all the way to the grave. edit: i'm only 20 lb. overweight and i can already feel some health issues like im overly tired, etc. so i deff don't want to become like these women but i feel bad they were being lied to 😢

And it’s not “food” that we’re addicted to. I’ve never seen a food addict gorge on a bucket of lettuce or horde carrots for later. A person who eats natural food without modern processing will find it hard to be addicted.

It's easier to lose the weight while you're young and there's not so much of it. I'm in my 40's. I've always been a binge eater. I started doing it when I was a teen. Back then, I would get a pack of pretzels from the vending machine or bring a sandwich from home. In 7th grade, some guys spent the whole lunch period making rude comments and pig and cow noises one day at me. After that I never ate breakfast( I don't like eating breakfast) or lunch and bingeing at night. It's a bad habit I should have never started. I keep healthy options in my house.Things that I like if I do binge. I don't buy things I know that I will overeat. I buy some junk food for my son but I don't eat his food. It's hard as you get older and life happens. I've had some recent health issues and a cancer scare relating to my liver and gall bladder. I don't have cancer but I do have fatty liver. Some of it is genetics but some is also from unhealthy editing habits. I'm not trying to scare you but you are young and, like I said,it's way easier when you're young.

Funny how Tess Holiday has just recently changed her tune. She’s now on a “anti-inflammatory” diet. Interesting how she’s close to the age where obese people tend to start having problems at and all of a sudden she’s changed her stances🧐

I think it's absolutely disgusting!!!!!! I'm 6ft and only weigh 110lbs. I was 155 when I bought my first house. I'm this skinny because I can't afford to eat enough. It infuriates me that these people eat enough to feed 6 people! One day of their food intake is around a week to two weeks of mine! Not to mention I'm white and therefore don't qualify for food stamps. Eventhough I survive on disability. But I'm white so it's okay.

Contact local churches in the area. There 2 are churches walking distance where I live that are food shelves. A different church serves meals daily. Depending on your situation they might even deliver to you (meals on wheels)

I have recently gained 30 pounds and im devastated over the gain. I do not understand how so many glorify being fat. I had to go from medium size clothes to large and im trying to lose the weight but I'm completely miserable physically and mentally over it. I don't think I could ever be okay with being fat!

If my doctor had never given me a referral to a nutritionist to help with weight-loss, I likely would never have been able to get pregnant and would have stayed on the course of developing type 2 diabetes. I am terrified of being fat because of the insane health complications. And yes, being fat is a sign of moral weakness (speaking as someone who struggles with over-eating). Gluttony is a real thing! Not saying it is easy to course-correct, but it is morally right to do so.

Unfortunately this is another overcorrection in the social justice movements 😣 I think it was a good thing to decrease the shame of being 'fat' or obese as these feelings can cause alot of people to not want to take the first steps to living healthier lives. I also think it was a good thing for Drs to step back from ONLY seeing fat people as fat, leading to mis diagnosis and delayed treatment for medical issues that will not resolve from simply 'loosing weight' etc. It's sad that some people have taken these ideas way too far and causing more harm and mis information 😣
