The best comparison between the two games The Day Before (2023) and State of Decay 2 (2018), I will compare the most important similarities, physics, details, textures and special places in the game. The entire video was created by myself (GameLight).
The Day before is a survival MMO, but in reality the game is more similar to Escape from Tarkov than a survival game. The Day before is the worst game of 2023 because the game was deceptive from the very beginning, the main goal of which was to make money from the players.

Both use UE4, both were made by small teams. Yet one was made with love and industry experience. SOD2 is a good game with years of QOL updates and new additions to this day as they work on the third game. Undead Labs deserves praise for fixing and improving their game. They didn't run with the money.

I think it's kind of funny how people look at SOD 2 these days.... when it was originally released, people called it shit. Now all of a sudden, it's like a top tier zombie game. I always thought SOD 2 was an amazing game... but there were many people who disagreed. It's just ironic is all. I feel vindicated.

I have over 150 hr in SoD2 and honestly I can recommend it to anyone who love zombie survival type games it has unique mechanics like istead like hunger meter or thirts you just have a community you need to take care of and scavenge for supplies like food, ammo , materials, meds, fuel and keeping community morale on plus I like this game Its solid for me 9/10

Something a lot of State of Decay 2 players don’t realize (and I didn’t know until kind of recently) is that when the zombies start yelling and raging like when you’re on top of a car and they can’t reach you, it will attract more zombies to them, sometimes even the freak types. It’s especially noticeable in the higher difficulties.

Simply look at the mini-map when noise is happening around you. There are rings (or circles) which ping out from all sounds that are detectable by zombies and freaks. The pings show noise the player makes including cars and they also show the pings from all zombies and freaks making noise. The distance of the ring indicates how far away the sound has traveled. An example is driving some of the vehicles makes you think some of them are very loud. However, all vehicle sounds which show on the map are always the same. Loudness of the vehicle doesn't matter for any of them. They are all the same size rings (circle).

It's also worth noting that State of Decay 2 runs on the original xbox one from 2013. That's 8 CPU cores at 1.75GHz, 8GB of RAM (but 3GB were reserved for the OS), an 800MHz GPU with 750 shaders, and an old 500GB 5400RPM hard drive. Try running The Day Before on that hardware. :)

It's just a repetitive game and you do the same thing always, in every map, but there's some ingredient right there that I can't tell that's really hooking me in despite the repetition.

I'd like to add on a few other things shown in the footage about SoD2. 2:58 *Technically* this isn't completely true as SoD2's weapons vary heavily in power. A pistol in .22 is not going to drop a zombie in a single hit to the legs and you're not going to drop them in even two or three shots, but one with an advanced brake attachment certainly can one tap. You're much more likely to just trip zombies instead of blowing their legs completely off too, like the single zombie in the blue shirt and tie does. 1:10 That the roaring isn't just for show, it creates a sound wave that attracts a ton more zombies in the area. While zombies in SoD2 will occasionally roar while in combat with you, they will *SPAM* it if you stay out of their reach on vehicles/buildings, basically summoning an endless horde until you leave the area or kill them all. 5:25 A crawling zombie here can be seen doing the same roar. 6:17 SoD2's looting system has "searching" and "fast searching." When searching a lootable spot, a bar builds up and, once finished, will show the loot inside. You can hold down another button at the same time to speed it up called "fast search" and you can release the button at any point to go back to regular search speed. You can press and release the "fast search" button as much as you like without making the search percentage restart. You have a 50% chance a search will have a "fumble" (or whatever it actually is called in game) and make a fucking *LOUD* sound that spawns 1-3 zombies nearby coming to the location while also alerting all zombies in the radius of the sound too, but you can ONLY fail a search if you're holding the "fast search" button, you can't fail a regular search. The "fumble" doesn't stop the search though, you just make a shit ton of noise and your character says something like "oh, rookie move, dipshit." 2:09 Any car that is destroyed in SoD2 can be repaired with either a toolkit or advanced toolkit, both things are incredibly easy to craft, find, or buy from NPCs. You can open your car door as you drive and smack zombies with it, killing them instantly. If you're moving too slowly, zombies will latch onto your car and start beating the shit out of it until you either get out and they climb off, you scrape them off by crushing them against walls/objects, or you do a u-turn at an absurd speed and launch them miles away. If a zombie grabs your car door, you have to spam the open door button to get them off before they rip the entire door off the car itself.

Sod 2 is more than a game, its a community that has dedicated devs. Ive seen what sod2 looked like during release, even played sod. Over the years after many updates and more on the way, sod 2 is worth 49.99 which i got it on discount anyways

Fun fact: in the previos state of decay, chopping off legs would result in zombie's death in about 5 seconds if you won't do a thing. Was glad they fixed it in the second one.

Absolutely by chance, I was re-playing SOD2 when The Day Before was released and I just finished another playthrough. It's a game I really want to love, but I can only like. The concept the devs tackled is huge, with so many moving parts. We can agree it's not an easy task to materialize such a thing. Ultimately, the game isn't outstanding at any front by itself (graphics, sound, combat, gameplay loop...), but it's a nice package overall when you put everything together. 7.5/10

It was an entire game that got removed from steam as a scam as it took 5 years to develop by some Dev team a lot of people were wary of and they relased the game in a state thet was just.....well you saw in the video. Steam pulled the game because of the backlash.

Back around 2016, I pirated the first State Of Decay because I had heard good things and the cover image looked dreadful and mysterious to me. I already loved Zombies by this point because of Dead Island and Dying Light so this was a shoe-in for me. That game looked and played like it was insanely dated (which it was) but daaaaaaaaaaamn it was fun and realistic in a not-so-boring way which was awesome. Anyway, when State of Decay 2 was announced... I instantly bought the collector's edition or Juggernaut Edition. Whatever it's called and I haven't regretted it since. I have over 100 hours in the game and I lovvvvvvvvvvve it. I only wish for things like more customization, more attachments, scarier threatening gameplay like SoD 1, and different flashlight types and colors. I also wish the graphics got some THE LAST OF US treatment cause let's be honest, it's always a game that has lagged behind in terms of looks. It's a bit like Fallout games the way the Graphics seem to lag behind. This series is made with such love though, seriously, thank you UNDEAD LABS.

I know that The Day Before isn't(or wasn't?) a finished product, but there are other games that are in early access that looks way better done than this is/was.

I agree with you, many survival games started with early access, and these games are much better than The Deay Before.

bro state of decay seems to be the best zombie game so far i had the most fun there most realistic and on lethal you struggle to survive and is very fun

Sod 1 was amazing i play it a lot when I was a kid and now sod 2 is the next one to enjoy I'm just happy they didn't ruined the 2nd game like some studios do

nah. it was lowkey a scam too, with false promise of a ''coop'' for marketing purposes, only to deliver what's unarguably the most horrendous definition of ''coop'' seen to mankind.

@@SebastianScientology you musta not played many games if u think state2 is that good. it really aint. no actual end goal, just playing until you get bored. how amazing...... they shoulda put a full stop to updating the game the moment it launched, accepted their L and made it right with state3 instead of trying to fix it now for god knows how many years with sprinkled updates.

SOD2 is almost better in ervery aspect, imo, but the Water is better in the other game here. I like it very much that you can swim and dive there. That is missing in SOD2... but I think that SOD 3 will have it all. It will be a Triple AAA game after all, and this will be awesome.

Being a AAA game is a terrible thing 😂 that means it'll be broken, glitchy, buggy, unfinished, woke, and filled with micro transactions
