I'm not a marijuana user tried it as a teenager wasn't for me. But I don't see the harm in gun owners using it socially or gun owners w/ an illness like cancer or chronic pain using it medicinally. Marijuana is a whole lot safer than alcohol & a marijuana user is a lot less likely to become violent than someone using alcohol.

There are two different parallel tracks here. When it comes to legalizing cannabis, recreationally using it versus as a prescribed medicine will probably cause you to be in violation of the law. It's not just if you purchase a firearm, technically even owning one right now is illegal if you've ever used medical marijuana. In fact the DEA has stated officially they consider having a marijuana medical card proof positive that you are using a illegal substance. So the official rescheduling of it will make a major difference for people who are using medical marijuana. The only problem is if medical marijuana is treated like other schedule 3 controlled substances, you are going to have to have compliance/drug tests every 3 months. That's a $100 to $800 test. At least an Kentucky, they overly corrected from their very lax regimen which led to us being a major pill mill state, to actually decertifying a doctor who they claimed was writing too many pain prescriptions, and who even had the head of the local AMA testify for him. What was the doctor's specialty? Hospice care, you know when somebody has 6 months to live? So they took someone prescribing pain medications to terminally ill cancer patients and said he was prescribing too many of them. :/ For recreational users it's going to become a sucker bet. The reason is if you get caught using it recreationally, as a schedule 3 drug that means you're using it illegally, i.e. without a prescription. For people that are using CBD oil and other hemp derived products, the revisions to the farm bill are going to be the primary determinant. They are already trying to claim Delta 8 gummies made using hemp derived product is an "intoxicating drug" (literally from the house hearings on the farm bill), so that needs to be banned. I'm watching this carefully because I have degenerative spinal disease, and the only prescription drug that really works to stop the inflammation and that damage are Cox2 inhibitors. Which in my case has started destroying my kidneys. So I can get meloxicam prescriptions and amounts that are beyond any normal dosage, even knowing they will destroy my kidneys - but it's not even a scheduled medication so they don't care. But claim it's intoxicating, and even if it does way less damage we've got to make it illegal. Gun control is the left's bogeyman, and the right pushes the War on Drugs, civil asset forfeiture, and qualified immunity. FYI with the current changes to abortion laws I wouldn't even have my teenage son, because his mother was in a high risk category, and since the fertility people at the local university hospital had to bury to mothers, and they're unborn babies, from complications due to the same issues my son's mother had, they were not going to start fertility treatments unless we agree to selective abortions if she ended up with more than one fetus. To put this in context, she is 4'10" and wore size 0-2 pants, and was 4'10" tall. Doesn't help most recreational users, but there are a lot of people with chronic pain who could benefit. Some people are naturalists who refuse to use man made pharmaceuticals as medicine, you could carry legally with a medical card and that is at least a step in the right direction.
