The Deadliest Jet Fighter Of All Time
► Subscribe: goo.gl/r5jd1F
The United States Air Force has some of the most technologically advanced weapons in the world. But when it comes to fighter jets and taking control of the skies, the U.S. Air Force has something that no other military can match…
The Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor defines air dominance with its unique combination of stealth, speed, agility, situational awareness, and its lethal long-range air-to-air and air-to-ground weaponry. This single-seat, twin-engine, all-weather stealth tactical fighter is considered a 5th generation fighter aircraft and was the very first in the world.
In 1985, the U.S. Air Force began to focus on both its stealth and supercruise abilities, and by 1986, Lockheed and Northrop had been selected to enter a competition to build the new jet which would replace the F-15 fighter jets.

@@bestamerica So uuum, does it matter at all? The F15 is getting outdated and even if efforts to upgrade it are well on their way the air frame it self is outdated. It lacks stealth and a lot of other things to compete with state of the art fighters, maybe it's the superior aircraft in a dogfight, however that's not what defines a great aircraft anymore.

The F-22 is a marvel of technology and defies the laws of physics. It's the best fighter jet ever produced. I've never heard of even one being shot down (a foreign commander claims he did but it sounds like bs). Only time I ever heard of one being damaged during an engagement was when the plane hit Ironman and the pilot had to eject.
@Pygmyz06
@Pygmyz06 Жыл бұрын
it is not invincible, and like any aircraft, it can be vulnerable to damage or destruction in certain circumstances. In fact, there have been a few instances of F-22 accidents and incidents over the years, including one crash in 2020 that resulted in the loss of an F-22 and the tragic death of the pilot. While the F-22 is designed to be highly maneuverable and stealthy, it still faces risks from factors such as enemy fire, mechanical failures, and pilot error. It's important to maintain a realistic understanding of the capabilities and limitations of any technology, including advanced military aircraft like the F-22. While it is certainly an impressive piece of engineering, it is not infallible and can be vulnerable in certain circumstances. there have been no confirmed reports of an F-22 being shot down by enemy fire during combat operations. However, there have been instances where F-22s have been forced to withdraw from combat due to technical problems or other factors, and there have also been instances where F-22s have been involved in non-combat accidents or incidents. It's important to note that the exact details of military operations and incidents involving advanced aircraft like the F-22 are often classified, so it's possible that there have been incidents that have not been publicly disclosed.

No F-22’s have ever been lost as a result of combat damage. Some have been lost due to accidents or mechanical problems but not that many. A total of 187 were built and put into service initially. I’m not sure how many exactly have been damaged to the point of total loss but I know some have due to damage sustained in an accident/crash.

The only reason that would be out to the public is if the military has already developed something for the next gen. They most likely have their fighter for the next generation already. It's also funny knowing that despite all the counter intelligence from China and Russia, their 5th gen planes aren't perfect and have recently had engine problems. They may be copying but their in no way anywhere close to what the US does. We pretty much set the precedent for what defense is and looks like, while everyone else in the world is left stuck trying to compete with and emulate things that the US already considers obsolete. The military knows that winning the arms race is the key for dominance and being a gen ahead of everyone is the perfect way to assure that

Actually, the YF-23 was slightly stealthier and had a longer range than the YF-22. Missed opportunity. They picked the F-22 because it was more manuverable (as it dogfighting maters anymore with beyond visual range missiles), and the government trusted Lockheed more than McDonald-Douglas. If the Air Force could choose now between better manuverability vs better stealth and longer range, they would choose the stealth and range every time.

What makes the F22 so deadly is that it can see you without seeing you. It could detect you from 90 miles away and shoot you down and you would have no idea. However, you would never see the F22 because it's invisible on regular radar. And if you do manage to lock on, it will release "flares that will scramble your targeting system". Plus the thing can do summersaults in the air and that's cool too.
@dwizzleusa4202

You probably will get no lock on radar, plus the f22 will know who you are before you do see him on radar, if you do..by then the f22 is shooting missile. What most people don't understand is the avionics on the f22.. the ability for the f22 to detect enemies without them knowing that a radar has lock on them, is priceless in war..

90 miles is pretty far. Are u exaggerating? Guess not. The F-22 is equipped with multiple sensors including the AN/APG-77 radar, which is designed to detect and track enemy aircraft at long ranges. According to publicly available information, the AN/APG-77 radar is capable of detecting and tracking targets at ranges of over 125 miles (200 km) in optimal conditions. However, actual detection ranges can vary depending on factors such as the size and altitude of the target, the environment (such as weather conditions), and the capabilities of the radar system used by the adversary.

Oh. Here we have another person apparently on the national defense panel making the decision. Watching KZfaq videos of claims of such things does not make you an expert. The stealth wasn't better, the cost was more even though the raptor ended up being way more expensive. The speed wasn't quite as high but the added speed was unnecessary as 1.8 super cruise was more than enough.

@@fishtailfuture He's not wrong though. Lockheed took advantage of a far better standing with the US Dept. of Defense and Congress, mainly due to production issues Northrop was having with regard to B-2 Spirit bombers. Congress felt Lockheed had a better chance at fulfilling production quotas and keep quality high. Strictly from a design perspective, the YF-22 was quite a bit faster, as well as stealthier, than the YF-22. The YF-22 was a more maneuverable aircraft, and concerns with Russia's focus on supermaneuverable thrust-vectoring capable aircraft, as well as AoA (Angle of Attack) experiments conducted with aircraft such as the F-15 ACTIVE, made that a bigger determiner rather than speed. In addition, being a fighter focused more on air superiority rather than the tactical fighter role (despite the program being called the Advanced Tactical Fighter), a tradeoff in stealth and speed was acceptable. Typical air combat engagements that proceed past AMRAAM BVR range slow down quickly to Mach 1.2, transonic, or even subsonic, quickly following the merge and if the YF-22 was lucky, into a two-circle rate-fight. Thus the additional speed was unnecessary. Ultimately though, the YF-23 was on paper a better fighter than the YF-22, so it came down to a political and financial decision.

For it's purpose the Yf-23 was the better jet but the fall of the Soviet Union and declining defense budget they didn't want to risk Northrop going over budget on the project the Yf-23 was faster and Stealthie, but likely more expensive and a bit of a risk financially. Nice voice, graphics, editing. Lots of mistakes on data. Oh well, fun to watch. Can’t believe the F-22 is so expensive. At least it’s sexy and give us bragging rights. Less chance it will be reverse engineered if we don’t sell them.

So the F-22 program was about making an awesome fighter jet, but they could only make around 187 of them. The F-35 program was about stuffing every ounce of tech they could into an air-frame then making thousands of them. Imagine what they can do now for NGAD! :D
