What I love about Hybe is how they take note of the mental health of their trainees/idol members. Dream Academy is a survival show and is literally a competition but they give them time to also have fun. I hope the debut team will have an In The Soop content to relax. When it comes to food, people who visited Hybe cafe said theyre good. I trust Bang PDnim being a foodie himself 😂😊

@Joviiza
@Joviiza 7 ай бұрын

That’s not the narrative. They were saying that some countries go really hard for their representatives, but others don’t. It just is what it is. Let’s be honest: we Latin Americans (I’m Puerto Rican) DO push for our people 100%. In LATAM communities online I’ve seen people say “vote for Samara and Celeste because they’re from LATAM!” instead of “vote for X because she’s talented!” It is what it is. And it’s okay that some of the girls feel bad that people from their countries/ethnicities don’t support them that much.

9:06 the thing is, i do agree with brooklyn that some contestants are definitely receiving a lot of hype partly due to their nationality. latin american and filipino fans are really into nationalism and it’s obvious to all the girls at this point. however, she needs some self-awareness. other american contestants, such as emily, are popular. and there are contestants such as iliya who really don’t have an active fanbase from their country, but still recieve lots of support from others. so at this point, brooklyn should realise that the reason she’s one of the least popular isn’t because she’s american but because people didn’t find her to be as impressive or charismatic as the others.

@Diyel I don't agree with that at all. I don't think any of them is the star of the show yet, it's too soon. To be biased is one thing, to put one of them at the top already with only 2 missions out is another, and I think it's crazy. But obviously that's my opinion and I do get yours, just don't think the same :)

Finally a no mean comment about what Brooklyn said! I second your thoughts, but I think people do not like Brooklyn's voice color/tone. It has nothing to do with her personality or charisma. Actually I found that thanks to these vlog videos I Got to like her. Her personality is SO bubbly and she is so Nice too, it is impossible to no like her. Also, she is a charismatic dance and I really liked her at Fearless, but it's her voice tone the problem. Hers is a little weird to me, and I really don't like how she sound most of the time, which is such a sad thing since I really like her character 🫠

9:05 okay, let’s REALLY unpack this. its a super interesting issue. brooklyn is lamenting the fact that she doesn’t have a loyal fanbase because of her nationality or ethnicity. she looks at girls like samara and celeste, and sophia, who are from latin america and the philipines respectively. they have received massive amounts of support and hype, oftentimes accompanied by nationalistic sentiments, such as representing the country they’re from. she’s a white girl from texas, and she’s wondering why she doesn’t receive that tangible loyalty from white american fans. i’ll tell her why. countries such as the philipines and those in latin america are often underrepresented in mainstream western media. women of that heritage are often overlooked in favour of their white counterparts. as an aside - brooklyn 99 is an interesting show because it deliberately went against that norm. melissa fumero and stephanie beatriz are both latina women within a select ensemble cast. i remember an interview where one of them said, that when they heard the show had already casted a latina woman, she gave up on the hope of being casted too. the reason for that is that american tv often has a “box-ticking” approach to diversity. they employ the minimum standard and call it a day. but the casting director brooklyn 99 recognised the importance of casting based on merit, and both actresses have received endless praise for how much they bring to the show and how much they suit their roles. back to dream academy. so, when these underrepresented countries get their own representatives on a show like this, viewed by a global audience, the fans go crazy. they’re so excited to see themselves as a part of this, and so grows this deep loyalty towards the contestants of their country. but wait, why do white people not do that? because they’re _so used to being represented already._ they don’t attach themselves to white contestants in the way that other ethnicities do because they’ve always had the privilege of being able to pick and choose who they see themselves in. and this all stems from white privilege, as the entertainment industry in america has been heavily dominated by white people since its birth. take the film industry as an example. the majority of it having consisted of white directors and actors for decades. things are changing now, and with that change comes beautifully diverse creations, broader viewpoints and more interesting nuanced discussion. so obviously, people are wanting to see this positive change in the music industry too. so, in conclusion, brooklyn’s privilege as a white person is proving to be a double edged sword. largely, of course, it works to her favour, in that she will never be discriminated against or made fun of or alienated or ostracised because of her ethnicity. she’ll also never have to struggle with a dual identity the way that the biracial girls do. but at the same time, she doesn’t get that intense loyalty from fellow white people, and so in a competition partly based on global votes, she may feel hard done by.

Brooklyn had a lot of lines to sing in mission 1, the same happened in mission 2. Even though she didn't have all those points you mentioned, she did have several opportunities to captivate the audience with her charisma, her stage presence and her voice. But she didn't succeed, and it wasn't for lack of opportunity. This "being American means being at a disadvantage" excuse is very bad. You can only conclude that she is unaware of how privileged she was during the show, as well as being naturally privileged to be white and American. When I heard that part, I didn't react. Like girl, omg. Unbelievable.
@romeliapc4175

This is an incredibly well thought out and accurate comment. I hope people read this and understand what you are exposing right here in terms of diversity and privilege. I can testify that it felt strange to me she said she doesn't get support because in my eyes as a Latin person I would've though the opposite, that she would've had it easier to get votes because of her being a white american. Taking into consideration the inmense rise in popularity of kpop/asian related things in america. This was a huge eye opener in terms of their pov's and their own perception of things. I do have to clarify, I personally vote base on who blends well and how I see them in the group, regardless of their specific background or ethnicity. That being said, as you mentioned, when people like me see someone like Celeste, Daniela or even Samara we feel represented. It doesn't matter if you speak or not the language, you are Latin in my eyes. I feel seen in an industry that most likely wouldn't pay attention to the consumers in other markets besides their pre-established ones or ones their sure of investing in. I don't get the concerts, events, special editions or even the slightest recognition, so as a viewer and a consumer I take what I can get. Daniela feels like her spanish isn't great, their's many Latin people born in the states with the same background, I mean Becky G is an example of that. She struggled to find herself in the "in between" aka being a LatinX person. Someone who grows with english and spanish alike, in between two cultures that seems like an impossible dilemma. A war of "you aren't this but also not that either". Same goes to with Megan. I grew up with asian culture around me so whether I choose it or not, it is a part of me. So I completely understand how their both feeling. They want to show who they are but haven't had the chance to and feel frustrated. I'm sure every mixed or multicultural girl shares those feelings with them. As far as the show goes, I can tell their all very creative individuals. I just wish the voting system was different and we got more insight like in this video.

I understand you but we also have to get into the minds of the American voters. You can see especially on Twitter how so many have this self hate complex, “I don’t trust that white b**ch, not voting for her, etc,” and their votes all consist of other contestants. Most Americans don’t really have this sense of self pride unless they’re extremely patriotic. I agree with you on the part of how Americanization of the world has led for them to be able to see themselves in practically every big screen, meaning they won’t really root for other Americans in this competition because it’s nothing new to them. But I don’t think we should put down her feelings when she’s valid for feeling hurt of not having support from her countrymen.

This comment is very accurate, and you are right!!! As an Argentine who has ethnic origins, I loved it, and it's true, seeing that there was a girl representing Argentina and Colombia made me super happy because this never happens, the same with Brazil, it's nice that these girls are there representing us as Latinos. In addition, Argentina not only supports Celeste, but also Samara, Manon, Sophia, Daniela, etc. Fun fact, Stephanie Beatriz (Rosa Diaz) is Argentine with Colombian parents, like Celeste😭❤️ I love that you named that show, it's my favorite❤️ Btw I don't think Brook is a bad girl, she just doesn't realize the tremendous privilege she has yet. And actually Celeste is super talented, so I don't see the problem to suport her hehe.

But it is also true that the USA is a VERY big country and that historically the music industry was concentrated there, and that is still the case. Brooklyn girl -- Lara, Daniela and Megan are all fan favorites. Even Emily is well-recognized as the best dancer of the bunch. You're the only American who isn't getting that much support and it has nothing to do with your US citizenship and everything to do with how you sounded like a squirrel in Mission 1 on top of getting most of the lines.
@ryu4ever

Why You have to be SO mean? These girls are on the internet. It is not Nice to Say stuff like that. This is something You would Say to her face to face? @crazilyinliv
@crazilyinliv 7 ай бұрын
@@ryu4ever if she sees it let her see it. the fact that Brooklyn - a white American girl auditioning for an LA-based girl group - has the nerve to act like being an American is a disadvantage is so insensitive to the other girls. she needs to know that she's too used to white privilege & entitlement and that's why she's blaming her nationality instead of realizing that she doesn't have the fanbase because she performed poorly in Mission 1.
@ulamme
@ulamme 7 ай бұрын
@@crazilyinliv its a super interesting issue. brooklyn is lamenting the fact that she doesn’t have a loyal fanbase because of her nationality or ethnicity. she looks at girls like samara and celeste, and sophia, who are from latin america and the philipines respectively. they have received massive amounts of support and hype, oftentimes accompanied by nationalistic sentiments, such as representing the country they’re from. she’s a white girl from texas, and she’s wondering why she doesn’t receive that tangible loyalty from white american fans. i’ll tell her why. countries such as the philipines and those in latin america are often underrepresented in mainstream western media. women of that heritage are often overlooked in favour of their white counterparts. as an aside - brooklyn 99 is an interesting show because it deliberately went against that norm. melissa fumero and stephanie beatriz are both latina women within a select ensemble cast. i remember an interview where one of them said, that when they heard the show had already casted a latina woman, she gave up on the hope of being casted too. the reason for that is that american tv often has a “box-ticking” approach to diversity. they employ the minimum standard and call it a day. but the casting director brooklyn 99 recognised the importance of casting based on merit, and both actresses have received endless praise for how much they bring to the show and how much they suit their roles. back to dream academy. so, when these underrepresented countries get their own representatives on a show like this, viewed by a global audience, the fans go crazy. they’re so excited to see themselves as a part of this, and so grows this deep loyalty towards the contestants of their country. but wait, why do white people not do that? because they’re _so used to being represented already._ they don’t attach themselves to white contestants in the way that other ethnicities do because they’ve always had the privilege of being able to pick and choose who they see themselves in. and this all stems from white privilege, as the entertainment industry in america has been heavily dominated by white people since its birth. take the film industry as an example. the majority of it having consisted of white directors and actors for decades. things are changing now, and with that change comes beautifully diverse creations, broader viewpoints and more interesting nuanced discussion. so obviously, people are wanting to see this positive change in the music industry too. so, in conclusion, brooklyn’s privilege as a white person is proving to be a double edged sword. largely, of course, it works to her favour, in that she will never be discriminated against or made fun of or alienated or ostracised because of her ethnicity. she’ll also never have to struggle with a dual identity the way that the biracial girls do. but at the same time, she doesn’t get that intense loyalty from fellow white people, and so in a competition partly based on global votes, she may feel hard done by.
