I appreciate the phrasing of this as the decaying state of gaming. I think this is particularly egregious in the state of mobile gaming, where game's popularity so SOOO cyclical due to the explicit power imbalance of microtransactions. I think of clash royale in particular. While microtransactions in console/PC games usually don't provide a mechanical benefit and is usually just cosmetic, it is still sucking the fun and soul out games. You can see the opposite very plainly in the success of games of phasmophobia, among us, lethal company, baldurs gate 3, elden ring, stardew valley, cuphead, and more
@poxxyplays2 ай бұрын
Yep, that’s the only reason I have faith still - is that the silent majority of gamers still just want a fun game, no pay to play past a purchase. Mobile games monetization deserves a video on its own as the foundation of our ACTUAL games taking that monetization pathway. Diablo 4 wouldn’t be this way if Genshin and those other mobiles didn’t come to PC, and excel to new heights. Thanks for the comment man :)

Oddly enough Rocket League is a prime example of where I think your point *doesn't* stand. The items are just cosmetic, hitboxes for cars are shared between countless models, so you're not really missing out on much. It's much worse in anything with an unlock system like Warzone where certain weapons are effectively time-gated for free players, or paid games that still ask you to buy a battle pass after a pretty hefty upfront cost (e.g. diablo 4).
@poxxyplays2 ай бұрын
I agree for the pay to win aspect, realizing now I didn’t address very clearly that for Rocket in general, it’s just about the insane influx of monetization for the game that stands an issue with me, because it forces Psyonix to focus on increasing their shareholder’s revenues from the game, rather than make the game actually better. However, I enjoyed in the early days when every car DID have their own unique hit box, but given how many cars they’ve sold, I’m happy they share hit boxes now. So there isn’t any sort of actual pay to WIN in RL. It’s a double edged sword of a point I was trying to make, like “even a free game’s developers are now stood more to focus on profit” rather than the gamers who made their game popular. I hope this helped for what I was trying to convey a bit! Thanks for the interesting comment

@poxxyplays2 ай бұрын
It’s like two sides of the same coin. Microtransactions in general spawn a necessity for Game Companies to continue to increase profits, a smaller or independent company (as Psyonix was) would never have disabled player trading on their own, and would not have monetized it as much as Epic has forced them to. It is not a directly pay to win game, however monetization in-game has increased dramatically and with EVERY GAME that does it - over monetization always leads to dog ass. In this case, step one of dog ass was the item store on the main page, and the items costing anywhere from $5 to $25. Step two of dog ass, is disabling player trade and ruining a functioning economy for the entire trade scene. Step three is gonna be something worse 😂 idk what though. Thanks for the thought!
@kajetan63422 ай бұрын
The problem is , that even when many players will protest by not playing the game. There will still bigger profit from heavy microtransaction game, then from game for 30 bucks with just some bonus microtransaction. Its because of the human materaliasm. This is just mid to late capitalism at its finest. In the case of Rocket league its really sad, I played since 2017 and there was REASON to play, because unlocking stuff was grindy but achievable. Now.... its just useless to play, you wont unlock anything with that shitty system. Really fucking sad

I think genshin impact doesnt suffer at all from being a gacha game because the game is so easy that you can literally clear all the content with relative ease while being F2P.
@poxxyplays2 ай бұрын
But you can’t do the last level of abyss until you’ve done dailies for over a year as F2P with good luck on banners on yknow? I shouldn’t be forced into a year of repetitive daily gameplay to reap the same rewards as someone does in one week of whaling, I played it for a bit and never spent a dime - and for three months i was hooked cause it genuinely is fun, but once the only content left was whale only, I realized I wasted so much time. 5 star Eula + her sword combo from back to back banner pulls was pretty cool though.
@Nobody-eu6tb2 ай бұрын
@@poxxyplays do you think it is a problem not completeting the last level of the abyss? I dont think it is at all, it is an optional content and not necessary, it doesnt gatekeep you from the story or anything else, just an extra. Also I think getting good artifacts on xingiu matters much more than having a shit nahida build, so I think artifact is probably the problem and not characters, I have an F2P with soo many good character but none of them have any good artifacts which is a problem that even faces whales.
@poxxyplays2 ай бұрын
@@Nobody-eu6tb I only think it is a problem due to the rewards that it gives, especially for a f2p player, not completing the abyss is a huge disadvantage to the primogem grind. Artifacts are done decent enough, but the tedium of grinding them until you have the PERFECT rolls is something only a whale can dream of. The set amount of dungeons/ley lines that you can do over time is the worst thing you can do to a f2p player, it's the same thing as like mobile games energy systems to play the next round. It is ONLY there to make you pay, yknow? Cause they know players love to grind, so take that away - microtransaction heaven!!! lol good comments though, making me a think about genshin again lol
@Nobody-eu6tb2 ай бұрын
@@poxxyplays I am not gonna defend the artifact system because it is a poor design as well as the resin system. However going back to the abyss, 180 primogems for the twelfth floor is just not worth the grind for, it is only one wish if you miss out on a single cat or picture event you lose like 360 primo at the bare minimum, on average patch gives out 6k-11k primogems, on that same patch the abyss goes through two cycles, and clearing out the 12th floor twice is only 360 in total, that aint worth suffering at all. The funny thing is that people who played this game 24/7 at some point and whaled wants a harder endgame because the game is too easy. The amount of grinding I have seen from F2Ps clearing out the whole abyss is insane ngl, it really comes down to whether you will enjoy the game or not if you wanted clear out the 12th floor.
@poxxyplays2 ай бұрын
@@Nobody-eu6tb I agree totally, when I play games though I take pride in being able to clear all content in it, and if I can't do that based on my own grinding in the game in any amount of time I want to, I don't wanna play it y'know? It's the same reason I stopped playing WoW, or certain dumb mobile apps. If you don't do "x, y and z" every day/week, you fall behind - and I think it's worse that in gacha games (which WoW basically is now too with the WoW token), you're either always ahead or can catch back up if you spend money. I'm also speaking on a broad more universal aspect of the monetization across all games as well, I'm not completely familiar with all nuances from a lot of particular genres. Ultimately this video is just explaining my point of view and I'm not some nut who wants everyone to agree with exactly my POV lol, I appreciate the convos like this one though, that lemme learn from different perspectives
