This show is essentially a modern Nichijou but themed around the Deer population in Nara. And when I say "themed," I mean obsessively hyperfixated. Ps. The delinquent lady's VA was the voice provider for Hatsune Miku.

This anime seems wholly random deer shit and stuff until i read an interview by the VA’s about the script and suddenly it makes sense. IT ACTUALLY MADE SENSE. In this world “deer” is not an animal or even an organism. It’s a phenomenon. And it’s a supernatural phenomenon at that. Basically the deer in this world is literally missingno./a glitch in reality.

There are lots of deer in japan, especially in nature parks. The prefecture of Nara in particular is famous for having deer, which is also where for example character of Shikamaru Nara from Naruto gets his name, "shika" being the japanese word for deer and "maru" a common suffix in male names. As for this show, almost all the characters have some sort of animal reference in their names. Shikanoko Noko's name is of course referencing deer like Shikamaru, but Torako Koshi has the character for tiger in both her first and last name. In both "Noko" and "Torako" the "ko" can mean "child" and is a common part of girls names in japan. There will be a bunch of other characters with similar naming patterns. Another translation note: "Nokonoko" can mean "brazen" or "shamelessly". It is also the word for Koopa Troppas from the Super Mario franchise. "Koshitantan" on the other hand means "eagerly" or "vigilantly", so the title could translate literally to "An eager and brazen child of a deer".

I believe personally, that nokotan the deer is searching for a friend, everyone else seems to just see them as deer or as something above based on how they believe her so openly and the main character is the only one to seem as 4th wall break sentient and to actually see nokotan as the anime girl she is too and not just the deer the characters blindly follow.

From what I understand something about nokotan's name is a pun resembling "unstoppable force" hence the joke with her blasting through the wall entering the classroom.

Honestly I watch this and I swear I see influences from both Hare+Guu and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. The same sense of absurdist humor, the MC thats aware of oddness and the rest of the world goes with it. Hell SZS even starts with a hanging too. This somehow reminded me (I think it was the "obviously inhuman transfer student walks into the classroom and everybody treats it as normal" moment); if you haven't seen "Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-chan" it's worth looking at. In the first episode it sets up (and then spends its remaining time ignoring while filling in more area around it) an interesting moral question that ought to be entirely inapplicable to the real world yet is hard to resist the urge to form an opinion about. [Appended] I like the complete lack of attention the narrative provides to that if the antlers come off she shouldn't have needed help getting down from the utility pole.

If you like this kind of unhinged humor, I highly reccomended Nichijou (My ordinary life) It gets so funny every episode that despite it being 26 episodes it feels like its almost 100 lmao I feel like Nichijou is modern day brainrot humor before it even became a thing.

I recently talked with my friend, and he told me in conversation that the profession of a Psychologist cannot be called a "Medical field of activity" since they basically do not help in any way, but simply take money for conversations...
