Did you not experienced the audio drift in syncing issues? I honestly have no idea how people cannot noticed this. I have been able to reproduce it on literally every single AirPods Pro second generation I’ve encountered. Three that I’ve had replaced, and literally. 10 from friends and family that I’ve purchased it.

This video shows me never become a sound engineer. The difference is there but subtle for most of the examples. Frankly they are both great EarPods. One thing I wish they should include is to allow me to adjust different levels of boast in different frequencies like the Sony one I have.

Ok so as a father of 4 loud children the adaptive transparency is one of my favorite features. You were right in saying it’s hard to notice, but that’s only because it’s working so seamlessly. The best way to identify how it works is to play a background noise like white noise or a bath running and then introduce a loud scream or shout. You can clearly hear the sound of the bath being reduced comparatively to the shout and it all happens in a fraction of a second. I’m telling you this feature is an ear saver in so many situations.

An incredibly thorough video, just reaffirms my view that I need to get the Senheisser TW3 as sound quality is my primary goal. I found the gen1 sounded wider than the gen2, but the gen2 sounded clearer. Both then don’t give the whole sound package I’d be after.

I’m 70 and noticing those high end frequencies are more annoying these days while I used to adjust my EQ towards them and trim the lows. The AP2s in my experience are amazing at delivering a softer range of vocals while listening without irritating highs dominating the space. I thing the ANC is at least 2x better and transparency is so life like! Excellent review. 🙏🏼👍

Great review. What I found really funny when I listened to the comparisons with my Apple EarPods Pro I really couldn’t hear the differences. But when I switched to my Soundcore Sport X10 earbuds and BOSE QuietComforts the differences were very clear. What surprised me I preferred the sound coming through the Soundcore earbuds. Of these three it depends what I’m doing as to which earbud I tend to use. If my goal is noise reduction indoors and just listening to music the QuietComforts are the best. The X10s I prefer for just listening to music and videos, the noise cancellation ok, with the X10s but not great. My preferred general use earbuds are the Apple Pros. Sound I’d good, the Pro 2 does sound better, enough so I may have to get a pair. But I prefer using my Apple Pros if I need to hear other people and take phone calls. The transparency is far better than BOSE or the Soundcore. The noise cancellation is close to BOSE, very close. What I found Apple does better job of eliminating unwanted noises like fan or motor noises. And wind noise the Apple Pro is better than BOSE or the Soundcore. Plus the case pocketablity makes them my go to earbuds.if Apple had a customizable EQ like Soundcore or even BOSE so I could customize the sound to my preferences they would be perfect.

Did you notice some occasional left / right imbalance both with the ANC and playback? Mine seem to do that. Sometimes the left earbud clearly cancels less noise, especially higher pitched sounds like distance traffic noise. Usually after after some minutes it get's back to cancelling it out completely and then gradually getting worse again. While in the same environment. Very distracting and uncomfortable feeling. And for playback sometimes with mono sounds like voice in podcasts the sound is for a brief period of time - usually a few seconds - not coming from the front, but slightly shifted to the left or right. Maybe that is occuring when the ANC is calibrating to new environmental noise. It seems to do that calibrating more than the Airpods Pro 1, which for me always gave the same amount of noise cancelling. The Pro 2 seem to cancel less, the quieter the environment ist. Maybe to safe energy. The result however is distracting for me.

Im quite surprised how few differences there are between Sound and ANC. Especially after i heard so much hype about the new ones the last months. I actually think the gen 1 sounds a little warmer and pleasant from your recordings. I will definetely have to try gen 2 out, but I definetely dropped plans to add them to my collection and look more into the direction of the galaxy buds pro 2. Especially after my Airpods started disabling Bluetooth on my iPhone when pausing audio after the last firmware update.

Truly amazing review thank you. I am though a little held back - I never bought Gen 1 owing to lack of bass, and if I'm honest I'm not really hearing a big improvement (despite other reviewers stating so), so therefore hesitating to buy. Absolutely love the mic quality and transparency though and these are important for me (work calls). Once more you have provided an A1 vid. (I'm also an ex sound engineer so really appreciate the efforts)

I wore the AirPods Pro 2 and heard the sound of a pressure cooker while keeping the adaptive transparency mode on. Then (while the same sound of the pressure cooker continued), I switched off the adaptive transparency mode from my phone. And boy what a huge difference that made. The sound suddenly seemed too high to even tolerate. Never knew the adaptive mode was soo good.

Great video, I agree with almost everything you have said but I dont actually think the Transparency mode is that great. It works really well with voices and ambient sounds but rustling sounds come through overly loud (imagine you are wearing a rain jacket, the rustling comes through louder than you would expect) also the microphone placement means that you get A LOT of wind noise and I dont just mean when you are outside in the wind, even just walking indoors can cause wind noise. I've been really pleased with mine so far other than the wind noise on the mics. I bought mine to use on my motorcycle. I was hesitant because I wasn't sure if they would be as good as 32db earplugs which I was using before but I was blown away when I tested them back to back. The Airpods block WAY more sound than the earplugs and are so much more pleasant to use. Also as an added bonus you can have some quiet background music while you ride. I just put it at like 20% volume so I can still hear my motor etc. Very very happy with the ANC performance on my motorcycle and my ears will be happier because of it.

Maybe I missed it but I noticed you didn’t cover the custom spatial audio. This has been a significant upgrade in spatial depth and brings out sounds in both songs and podcasts that I’ve never heard before. Try the song Bubbles by Yosi Horikawa with and without spatial audio activated.. 🤯

Hi, Loved the video ! have the Airpoods Pro 2 for a month now and there has been a nerf on the ANC. I can hear cars passing by, keyobard strokes and a lot more noise in general. Thanks to the intergration with the Apple watch compared to before they let in 9db more sound than when I tested them when I got them. Have you noticed such downgrade in the quality of the ANC and if so will have the opportunity to make a test with your equipment and compared it to the data you have from this video in order to see the difference. A lot of people are experiencing a nerf in the ANC since the last 10 to 15 days (strange we all got it in the same period of a couple of days and it has not been the same since then for sure. A noticable difference, would be great if you could document it.

I tried adaptive transparency by playing music on a portable speaker and put it next to my ears and it really did lessen the loud music.

I know its not apples to apples but soundwise do you prefer these to the sony xm5 over ears? The sound tests are thin vs the original sound. Is this due to the mic or do these earbuds really have this slightly nasal character vs the original sound?

thanks for going so deep on your analysis! ** ANC - i just did a flight from the US to Japan and did some real world A/B testing on the anc, and i will say that from my subjective tests, the Pro 2's are doubly as good for noise cancellation. i forgot my sony wh-1000xm whatevers at home and did the flight to the states with just the original air pod pros, and it was liveable but made me miss my sony cans. But, coming back with the air pod pro 2's made me feel that i don't really need to lug the big sony's anymore. yes, battery life is way less than the over the ears, but quick recharge times really help. anyways, i thought i'd leave my real world experience here for you since you went so deep for us. :)

As a music producer, I can notice in the second track, the mix of the kick and snare become clearer with the ap2 and with with the ap1 they are muddier and muffled

First, absolutely fantastic review. Id give you 5 thumbs up if it allowed me two. Second, I could hear every single difference between 1st Gen and 2nd Gen 'BIG TIME' throughout the entire video..................................while listening to it on the 'Gen 1' air pod pros. Side note: I have the brand new Gen 2 Air Pod Pros right in front of me, but Im waiting for the Dbrand protective case I ordered to arrive first before I start using them as my current Gen 1 case has been dropped dozens of times and has quite the collection of scuffs and scratches. Thirdly, If I'm hearing all these wonderful testing strategies and instrumental tests being done and all there differences while listening on Gen 1 Air Pod Pros, I cant imagine what this entire video is going to sound like on the Gen 2 sitting in front of me. Which also means Ill be returning to the review video when I finally fire them up for the first time. BIG difference in Gen 1 and 2. You've made that amicably clear, and thank you so much for your 60+ hours of hard work. Yes I was paying attention ;). Awesome review.
