Here at Fast Bikes Magazine, we love track days. So much so, we thought we'd head along to Cadwell Park and make our very own definitive guide to 'em, alongside our buddies at No Limits Trackdays.
From the briefing to the best equipment, preparing the bike and what tyres to use, we’ve got you covered. Enjoy!

Some good advice there, especially in regards the importance of a valve cap. People I've told about it think I'm mad - how can such a small thing suddenly deflate a tyre? I tell them of how I 'learned' about the physics of it, after experiencing it on a track day in Kirkistown years ago (did it twice before one of the more experienced spanner men at the paddock pointed it out!). I was lucky to stay upright both times, but a very hairy experience, and one I have related countless times since! 😉

Valve stem internals collaspe spring due to centrifugal force at high speeds Thus opening valve... Must have quality , well sealed valve cap to keep pressure from escaping, when valve is open at high speeds.

Presenter was good, nice and sharp and to the point. Refreshing to see, not trying to be cool and cheesy like a lot of KZfaq presenters. Keep it up

This was really great. I have seen so many people with stupid cans, and crap gear get turned away and be in a huff

Regarding valve stem... Good advice to use them, yes... But totally incorrect cause. True cause is centrifugal force making valve stem internals seemingly "heavier" thus depressing the spring that holds the valve shut, to the point it actually physically opens, thereby letting all the air out of your tire at high speed, unless you have a snug fitting, quality valve cap. ( I do landspeed racing in America... Metal valve stems mandatory to get through tech inspection) But I agree with you... Use quality (metal) valve caps. ( The cheap plastic ones can suffer too easily from stripped threads). So yes, use them always, for all riding!

Some good pints but hardly definitive! Track days begin weeks even months before the actual trackday , if you leave it until the day to do all this stuff you are not going to have a good day because your going to be too stressed running around trying to do everything! Good advice would be leave nothing until the actual day , nothing ! Preparation is everything, do you need a hotel the night before or can you drive early enough to get there with plenty of time etc etc, this kind of advice would be much more helpful for trackday noobs

Nigel Davis couldn’t agree more. They should include the madness of everybody arriving setting up in the garages, where to sign on as it’s not always obvious and emphasise that’s it’s supposed to be fun and not to take it too seriously.

Yeah, when i get to the track, everything is already checked and adjusted. The only thing you should be doing is checking your bike after every session to make sure everything is still the way its suppose to be.

I mean checking your brake pads when you're there. So busy you didn't do it a few days before? Definitely give it a check before hand, no question. Some of these things you should be doing long before you rock up

If you crash on track, get a mate to help push it down the road before calling the RAC. I imagine that junction outside Donington Park is a hot spot for motorcycle crashes.

What do they rev the bike to on the noise test? Are any of the decibel reader apps good to test with?

Depends on engine cc and cylinder number, as per ACU regs. Test at 0.5 metres at 45 degrees, phone apps not very accurate....
