Gnosticism. Excerpt taken from "The Battle about God: Where do Gnostics stand?" - Dr. Stephan Hoeller. Illustrated.
* Some Gnostics used the term 'Demiurge' (from the Greek dēmiourgos, literally meaning "creator" or "craftsman") to indicate the creator of the material forms, contrasting the uncreated Spiritual substance, because they were quite saturated in Platonic philosophy. They adopted the term in their ways of expressing a specific paradigm in which there is a dualism between the created material forms and the uncreated Spiritual forms. There were other terms used to indicate the creator god, also.

Had I seen this a few years ago I would have rejected the idea of the 'demiurge' outright. But I have come to realise the extent of the dark. If you don't try to understand the nature of evil, you won't get an accurate picture of the world or its history. I've spent a long time researching psychopathy in the corridors of power, (a key text is Lobaczewski's 'political ponerology') and I can tell you now, the way things are in this chaotic civilization-game is pretty fixed! It's almost rigged, because even if you were to somehow build an incorruptible utopia here on earth, certain types of neurologically amoral and behaviourally defective humans will keep on popping up and exploiting human compassion - they're like symbiotic parasites in nature. The common man with a conscience is sentenced to oppression indefinitely. It doesn't matter what doctrine they hide behind, the corrupt will always distort good ideas into an oppressive edifice. When you get to this stage in my thinking, the concept of a devil or the demiurge is not crazy. It's no more crazy than the world today and our unresearched complacency. Seems to me, the early-christian-ascetics and groups like the Cathars were very in tune with 'Reality minus the sugar-coating'. I know most will find the gnostic worldview very depressing and anti-life...that might be because it's too accurate. We'd much rather pretend that pandora's box was never opened while we all live on the happy side of youtube. Alas. (I miss you Sesame street)

History teaches us that power comes to those who are able to ruthlessly exploit the system and mechanisms of social behawior. Always - in prehistoric tribe, ancient Rome, nazi germany or modern UE/usa/uk/ anywhere. Thats why i once, long time ago, read "u cannot fix the world" - it rang a bell. Call it whatever u want - human nature, archetype, .. u cant change it. Ur only option is get over it, the thing u cant control.

One problem with the demiurge concept within the framework of (theism) believing in (or the mythology of) god, gods, deities, etc. is that the highest god can still be blamed. He isn't off the hook, because he allowed the demiurge to create this flawed world. He is still responsible for all of this. He just has a middle man between him and the world.

According to the apocrypha gospels, the demiurge himself is a descendant of the higher realms who somehow Materialized and in this materialisation created this World. The deities of the higher realms which are beyond imagination cannot opperate in the Material World. That could be the reason for all this suffering. In order to leave this material world we need to become independent of Material things. Thats possibly the meaning of jesus words: It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God (Markus 10,25)

Dr. Höller transfers the problem one rank higher. His Gnostic thought suggests him that there is another God higher than the Demiurge which is good. This perfect God allows though the Demiurge to experiment with living beings' suffering. The question emerges: why?

Thoughts based on the listen, it seems the creator of this world is not working with the full toolset, meaning a limited source of energy, hence we have nature feeding on itself, maybe the demiurge is not cruel, just limited, but from our perspective nature is cruel. Nature is hence operating without access to the quintessence, where as we have that access, that spark as Mr Hoeller would say. Likewise, I would like to ask Mr Hoeller, does not the limitation and cruelness of nature, and the suffering of our existence teach us what a purely spiritual world cannot? Is there not wisdom inherent in the very limitation we bemoan, perhaps this is part of a greater process towards a non-dual state wherein individuality and variety remains intact? In simplest terms can one know hot without experiencing cold? I find myself teetering between the two viewpoints above.

The world is the way it is because man would not learn to be just and loving if everything was perfect. Also hardship opens up new problem solving pathways in the mind and breeds character. God knows we would still find a way to hate each other even if he put us in perfect conditions. We would not respect or appreciate perfection any more than a 16 year old being handed a set of keys to a new Corvette that he didn't earn. He would dog it out like a rental car because he didn't work to get it.

The Jewish term 'mercy' does not equate with the Buddhist term 'compassion'.as Hoeller claims. The Jews are obsessed by guilt, shame, retribution and sacrifice - whereas the practising Buddhist has left these crude lower astral concepts behind to embrace 'compassion' - loving kindness for all living things. The Jewish notion of 'mercy' is a selfish idea concerned with internal forgiveness. The Buddhist term 'compassion' is a selfless idea - an expression of external universal love. Nevertheless, in spite of Hoeller's many shortcomings he may be regarded as a stepping stone between insanity and what is loosely (and erroneously) termed Gnosis - which no doubt he would be pleased to tell you equates with 'enlightenment'.

Interesting. From the two worlds only one is real and the other is an illusion. Therefor the Demiurge is only the maker of the illusion because it itself is an illusion. The only world which is real is the world of spirits. There is only one god (light) the rest is just shadows. Just my take on it. But i have to yet listen till the end.

+Google Plus Sucks According to blueletterbiblesearch in Numbers 22:22 (KJV) the word "adversary" (in that verse) is H7854 which is satan. That god was YHWH. The gods who told Abraham to murder his son were Elohim (gods). YHWH stopped Abraham. You have to look all these words up in the Hebrew, or Greek in the case of the New Testament to know what the heck is really going on. It's basically useless because it makes you think all these different gods are one god. It's the same myths throughout all the world with different names. In Exodus YHWH tells Moses the Law and in Jeremiah YHWH says he didn't give them animal sacrifices. Throw the book away. I believe in the whole truth. That means truth plus or truth minus is not the whole truth. That book (which I have studied for many years) is not the whole truth. It causes indoctrination in the worse way and clouds the mind. Jesus said no one has seen the Father at any time ever. That means YHWH is not the Father.

It's quite simple: John 1:18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known. John 6:46 No one has seen the Father except the one who is from God; only he has seen the Father. Jesus is the one who made the [true] Father known to us. Who where people (in the Old Testament) talking to, before Jesus? ;-)

My biblical conclution so far: The suffering and evil on earth is human resposibility since we, the human beings, were given authority from the Creator (yes, the mercyfull and righteous one ) to rule (not over each other, but over everything else) on earth! His power were DELEGATED to mankind. It is our job! We were the ones who should take care of everything here! The heavenly things are the concern of God. One biblical reference is Genesis 1:28. So we should stop blaming God for the lack of justice among us, the job is not his, but ours! We may even teach and take care of both animals, fish and fowels. The heavens is Gods responsibility, the planet earth is ours. The light of the world also proclames the power we as human beings has, there are no contradistion between the Old and the New: According to Mark 2:10 The word from heaven said: "So that you may know that man (mankind) has the power to forgive...take up your bed and walk...". We as human beings are given a job from above, to take care of the world and to fill it with justice (and kids)! We do not need to be heavenly beings :). Let us be thankfull and spread light among us, instead of cursing the one who made us.

Why Karma? A better question would be 'why not Karma?', as Karma is empirically solidified around us right before our eyes, continuously, from the moment of our inception to the day of our demise. Why would we assume everything changes upon our not being there physically to observe it? Karma is cause and effect , simple as that- it is the evident interconnectedness of all phenomena (often time extending beyond our direct knowledge, hence the seeming senselessness of what is being observed)- nothing resides absent of causation and nothing is capable of not yielding results. Now, how many ugly, evil babies do you know of (I know of none)?. Another question: how many old crotchety, dastardly old bastards are there (many/most who make it that far typically fall under that classification by my best guess)? THAT is Karma- one does not need to go to some text for consultation and consensus, or require faith in something 'other than' their own capacity for observation and rational thought (falsified by inherent, self-sustaining, intuitive characteristics, also bestowed upon us (both situational and general) via causation/karma). Suffering is the process of development which fosters resilience and acts as an impetus to strive for satisfaction (to begin with), which ultimately/ideally turns into vehemence toward enlightenment, UNLESS the collective responses to the events encountered and involved in during one's life are unskillful, or in other words: they suffer poorly. Suffer well, and you will develop and grow- (toward what? -you might ask... now here is room for your God to step in and have something to say- wonder what his karma is all about?).

@@popsophia7522 Acceptance, acceptance of all phenomena- nothing more, nothing less. Now, this is not to say you must defer your ability, fortified by preference, to resist, deny or alter certain undesirable aspects of reality toward your own will- but those beyond your scope of influence must be accepted as such... praying to some entity outside of yourself equates to non-acceptance. And if your preferences include activities which adversely impact others, standby for the undesirable karmic fallout- (the trick is to limit your preference to the bare minimum- easier said than done in the 'garden of Earthy delights'.. but this in itself is the objective. no? To see that the pursuit and embrace of preference in the here and now, sets the stage for suffering later; while remaining in a state void of desire and aversion creates conditions for future happiness.

Sounds just about right for the mainstream christian today to believe such shallow doctrine even after the Lord said that he never changes, they'll nod their heads in approval of that fact at the same time as well. God never changes yet christians say he does by dividing God's character between two testaments thus people like this man have to come along with the strange alien believes of the gnostics and create even more confusion.
