A wonderful start to your channel. Dresden was a symbol of Baroque humanism and architecture. Rather than repair the ruined Baroque churches, buildings and palaces, the authorities of the GDR (East Germany) razed the ruins to a wasteland. New buildings were built in the 'socialist modern' style at the beginning of the 1960s. The destruction of Dresden had an epically tragic element to it - that's why we keep returning to talk of it I think. It represents the worst of war.

I've studied ww2 my whole life. What a pack of lies we were taught. For example, everyone was taught about Germany invading Poland, but they don't teach that Russia also invaded Poland, but the allies only declared war on Germany. I find that very odd, the great setup i call it

Almost every time WW2 was mentioned in my schooling they would always hand waive the topic of The Soviet Union whenever the questionable nature of the allies association with them is brought up. This is obvious to even teenagers but they are propagandized to relentlessly their whole life to accept the absurdity of the situation on it's face.

Now that I know this, it seems insane to leave it out, from the perspective of someone pushing a narrative. I mean, as soon as I learned this, I began to doubt everything else. The thing is, I believed this version of history for an embarrassingly long period of time. So it's maybe not quite as reckless a lie as it seemed, given that it took me thirty years to think "Hang on..." Sorry for rambling.

@filled_soda crazy shit, good on you for seeing the importance of this. Took me a long time to get as well. Sucks to be mislead by Marxist curriculum our whole lives

I mean, pragmatically speaking it would have been utterly insane and impossible for Britain and France to be at war with both Germany and Russia. They picked the one that they saw as most dangerous to their strategic interests. But I completely agree it shows a huge degree of hypocrisy. And ofc we all know who the allies were in bed with….

Even during WW1, the British Army or allies as a whole, didn’t have a fleshed out process for organizing and operating successful advances until the Battle of Arras with tactics drawn up by Canadian general Arthur Currie, arguably the most successful general of the allied forces in WW1. It was essentially just over-planning and orchestrating artillery in unison with small, flexible infantry units. The French Army conducted lectures after Verdun, and following some leg work Currie hosted a few lectures & reorganized the Canadian Corps to strategize for this surprise based artillery-infantry combo, often using fake out bombings of one section and attacking another. This was fleshed out by January 1917; he and the Canadian first division went on to take Vimy Ridge, securing advantageous positioning for assault on Hill 70 in the third battle of Ypres, captured Passchendaele, then went on to break the Hindenburg line by seizing the Drocourt-Quéant line and pushing back the retreating German army. The final offensive is what we (Canadians) call The 100 Days of Canada. World War One is usually considered the baptism of our Nation as an Ethnos. And I’m want to discredit British & American participation in The Great War haha

Good comment, Canadian troops were amongst the best in ww1. Although the Germans and Russians also contributed much to the development of infantry tactics. The Russians and French cross trained and shared ideas, the Germans too developed their own and everyone copied each other. In the Brusilov offensive the Russian assault tactics worked well, the allies learned from these and employed them in 1917. They would launch an accurate artillery bombardment for a shorter duration, then the defenders would emerge and take up their positions, the Russians rather than attack, would wait a few mins, and then launch another bombardment. They’d repeat this process for several hours all the while small flexible units of Russian troops armed with many grenades would advance from cover to cover, upon the finish of the last bombardment the Russians would be right outside the Austrian tranche, then they’d storm in and usually caught the enemy on their way up from the bunkers, they took many prisoners by placing machine guns at the top of the stairs and forcing large groups of men to surrender or they’d throw grenades down. The tactic didn’t work so well with defence in-depth and often the central power troops would just evacuate their own positions, then shell them once the Russians were occupying them. They’d also launch counter attacks into the flank of the assault parties. I think the most effective assault troops were the German Stoßtrüp in 1918. The speed of advance was not matched even in the final allied counter offensive, but Germany had poor logistics and on the grand strategic scale they couldn’t match the industry of the REST OF THE WORLD POWERS!!

Just saw a debate between Rabbi Smoley and Mohammed (forgot the second name) and I almost spat coffee over the place when the fire bombing of Dresden was brought up. The Rabbi was confident that the Germans used to think it was 250,000 but we know the actual number was 25,000. My my that sounds a little like he is denying the...?

Make some Napoleon content. He won a great victory at Desden in 1813, but the coalition nations had a strategy of avoiding Napoleon in direct battle and attacking his sub commanders, so his victory which almost broke the Austro-Russian army was for nothing when his marshals were all beaten in the next few days. He is also often mischaracterised as a ‘fed’ so to speak because he gave lip service to equality and liberty rhetoric and he emancipated some lads from ghettos. People often leave out he did this to try and culturally absorb them and “make their sentiments French” he wasn’t interested in having a bunch of ghettos on his realm. He also passed laws against them money lending and nationalised his own bank.
