Some people would call this old and dingy but I love it. My grandparents live in a mid century home. I didn’t know until I developed a liking for it. I walked into their house shortly after and was like wow. It’s a very relaxing atmosphere. It has character and transports you back in time.

I love them too. I always think about when these homes were new. When people went to look at a model and how they were so different from what their parents had. So different from the homes they grew up in. Very modern for the time.

Thank you for sharing this. Just lovely and a good discussion. I understand the spirit of it, but the lack of an indoor staircase is not very workable today. Not for children especially. You can see the California lifestyle post-war was truly a break-away from the past in so many ways.

I thought for a moment that this Mr. Alan Hess was John Lautner himself.

Music is a bit over embellished. The house itself sets the mood

Did it sell to someone who wanted to preserve it as it is? I hope so.

I guess it's just me, but to me all the built in furniture of these flw and flw descendant houses is a real downgrade. I get it to an extent, but on the other hand you can really tell if someone is a house designer, and not a furniture designer.
