A documentary that covers the entire development of Battlefront 3

This video brings me closure to my long saga of wanting this game. Me and my brother would check GameFAQS, IGN, all day in 2007/8 looking for any news. We played the original XBOX games together for over a decade, and we’re both adults living in other states and I still play the fantastic Steam port of the 2004 original. It’s a tale of what could have been…but I can’t but think that having the original two and playing those two for 20 years now that made me appreciate every map and detail. Heck we’d spend hours and hours looking for all the glitches and quirks in the game…good times.

I definitely need too. I'm currently playing through EA's BF 2 and it's honestly pretty solid. It's not quite what a third Battlefront would've been but it is fresh and different. Ignore the online stuff and campaign, the instant action mode is a great throwback. @@benjijames821

That internal video and the death of Free Radical is so sad. TimeSplitters was one of my all time favorite video game series, and to see its developer killed off by publisher impatience/greed is just depressing.

I remember playing elite squadron and absolutely falling in love with it. While it definatly lacked content and was running on low powered hardware, the game had alot of potential. It was the game we all dreamed of in its early stages.
@Falkriim Жыл бұрын
Same, I spent hours playing the multiplayer just for the satisfaction of blowing up capital ships and being able to use escape pods etc. Imagine how cool that would be to be able to experience that on a console like the xbox 360, I’d still be playing it backwards compatible today. (I really need to buy a new battery for my PSP and play that game again)

I had a few convos with an ex-(and jaded) free radical developer stated that the final build of Battlefront 3 could only handle around 6 human players without Ai before it becomes unplayable due to the immense size of the maps and most likely the layered combat. He also stated that LucasArts wanted them to continue development but ditch the layered combat (which he called a disjointed gimmick that wasn’t even utilized well on the maps) as it was viewed by many employees as the root of all the game’s problems. Man I really with Facepunch was still up, but I can’t even remember my old account password.
@CloneCommOmar3 жыл бұрын
Interesting, this information hasn't been mentioned anywhere else. Does this mean LucasArts cancelled the game after Free Radical refused to remove the vertical battlefront?
@MDPToaster3 жыл бұрын
@@CloneCommOmar From what the guy I was talking to said, it happened sometime afterwards despite Devs like himself wanting to ditch it and make a game similar to the original Battlefront 1 by integrating starfighters into the maps like they did.
@CloneCommOmar3 жыл бұрын
@@MDPToaster I've never heard of that opinion before. Are you still in contact with the developer?

@@CloneCommOmar I don’t know anymore I’m pretty sure his email was a burner and is dead because he never got back to me on a few questions back in the day and it was an AOL mail too, I don’t even have the account I used to talk to him anymore. And he was pretty jaded too, all I remember is that he leaked a few screenshots of an early Cato-nemoidia build as proof he was an ex-dev.

Holy hecking High Ground it is absolutely crushing to hear how quickly FRD got screwed after the Haze exclusivity deal Edit: it's mildly infuriating to hear that line about Elite Squadron not being a port, Lucasarts really wanted FRD dead and it shows

3:20 I’m glad that this was also possible in StarWars Battlefront: Elite Squadron for the PSP. Which is the first Battlefront game I ever got. IIRC the main way to disable the ships shields seem to differ slightly than the original plan for BF3, The main way to do so would be to maintain control of an ion cannon and disable the shields from the ground. But it was also possible to deactivate the shield in space by destroying the ships engines, guns etc. My favourite part was probably being able to use the escape pods once you destroyed the reactor and watching the ship explode from the ground, which would give you a huge boost of victory points. This was the PSP, and I can just imagine how awesome features like that would have been on a console. Awesome documentary by the way
@ianhines23029 ай бұрын
Having to do the ion cannon firing, flying to space and destroying the core every game is the worst part of Elite Squadron, makes it so repetitive.

Dang, I wish we got this game in 2008... Star Wars multiplayer just got dropped like a rock, except for MMO's. Amazing video, it makes me want to play Haze since it's probably as close as we'll ever get. Also that E3 video seems awful at first, but grows on you once you see it a few times lol. However, it makes it seem like it was going to be PS3 exclusive?
