Sebastian Murphy, the lead singer of Viagra Boys, is actually American (born in San Fransisco) but moved to Sweden around 10 years ago before forming Viagra Boys which perhaps explains his lack of a Swedish accent and not very Swedish sounding name!

I didn't know this was out or even coming out, the unfortunate fact of getting older where some things can slip right by, but then again that's why I sub to you and the melon man. I may have to grow old, but I don't have to listen to the same boring shit I did 20 years ago, thankfully. I throw on that first song and it melts my fucking face. Terrific! It's like Christmas in July getting something so sharpened on the current zeitgeist I cut my finger when clicking play. Then I just want to jump around and fling blood on the walls, desperately hoping I don't fall down and break my hip. 10 out of 10, would break hip again.

I'm not old but I wouldn't even know viagra boys existed if it wasn't for a guy mentioning them on the king gizzard subreddit r/kgatlw. The post was about what's everyone's favorite albums so far this year and he said cave world was his fav. I saved the post and listened to a few of the most upvoted comments albums. After listening I went back and thanked the guy a ton for the recommendation.

This is my new favorite band. Their weirdness, satire and saxophone insanity are exactly what I want out of my music. If you want to hear some more avant-garde stuff from Murphy, he was in Grismask which is more abrasive and basically gibberish. Still amazing.

Viagra Boys is probably my favorite band out these days. They are extremely relatable, the remind so much of my friends and myself to a degree. And i love those fat muddy bass riff that rips through each track, its typically the backbone of the song, it give it such a nasty feeling.

I wass supposed to go see them in brooklyn last fall with three of my friends. One of those friends passed away two days before the show, Viagra Boys were his favorite band, he introduced my whole friend group to them back when Street Worms came out..We decided to still go to the show because we knew our friend would have wanted us to. In the middle of there set Sebastian, (lead singer) said he "wanted to dedicate this song to a man, called Jackson, who had tickets to the show but unfortunately passed away two days before the show, his friends are here," then he said the song was for him and the other "Shrimp Warrriors". Right after everyone srarted chanting "Leave society be a monkey!" over and and the place just completely erupted once that guitar came in. It was one of the coolest moments ive ever been a part of. Thankfully Someone posted the video on youtube for me when they saw one of my comments about it online . That night was so wild.

22:03 THANK YOU, MRS. SKYE! Evo psych drives me up the wall. I have never seen so many people readily accept ideas that are not backed up by evidence just because it slots into their worldview. Total just-so stories. Like the most ridiculous stuff that's based on assumptions about human history that you can debunk in like two seconds even if you're not a huge history buff. As for ADHD/ADD a lot of us have it and didn't get diagnosed as kids, with varying results. It can be incredibly debilitating and I wish people would take it more seriously. It was easy to fall through the cracks when I was a kid if you were just quiet and spacey. You go on tangents kind of a lot but you seem able to make it work for you for the most part. You make interesting connections in your album reviews and some of them are pretty unique. Being able to connect abstract ideas like that is kind of an ADHD thing. If you feel like it would help you function better or at least understand yourself better then definitely do some reading about it and consider getting evaluated. It turns out a lot of things that I thought were normal are not and that there's an actual explanation for what the hell my brain is doing!

Yes, that's Jason Williamson from Sleaford Mods on Big Boy. As to it not fitting in with the DEVO thing, consider "Doghouse, Doghouse"; "Herbert House", and "Dogs of Democracy" from Hardcore, Vol. 2. for points of comparison. Being fat or fat being desirable because it's a sign of having resources is a thing and was more common prior to the 20 Century modern era.

We lost our tails. Evolving up. From little snails. I say it's all. Just wind in sails. Aren't we all losers, we humans, to varying degrees? I think we're a self-serving, self-aggrandizing species. Cave World is next level, if not a perfect album, but being steeped in things punk including DEVO, going back to their seminal recordings from the early '70s (the Rykodisc released Hardcore material// e.g. "I Need a Chick"), I honestly didn't find it difficult to decode where they're coming from since Consistency of Energy and through Street Worms and Welfare Jazz. Also, Viagra Boys are known as a Swedish band but Murphy was raised in the San Francisco area. He came of age in American culture and had the good sense to GTFO of this toxic, festering, crumbling hulk--a plutocratic empire--basically right out of high school. I don't mean to come across as a pedantic asshole in counterpoint but it is what it is... take that all the possible ways that could mean... meta-ironic?

I think most of the thesis is summed up in the pair of spoken word verses that make up the outro of Return to Monke. I think when paired together they say something pretty undeniable. One is a murder that very obviously happens in the modern day. The murder is super efficient itself, and we have become super efficient at cleaning up the murder scene (in a sense, we have 'evolved'). One is the troglodyte fighting in the pre-human hell he has decided to return to, and the killing is brutal and violent and unclean (marking the difference between this and the modern murder). But at the end of the day, the violence is present in both worlds. I think the statement being driven home there is that if you change your definition of 'evolution' slightly to say, "they no longer commit violence against one another", we've gone nowhere, just changed the set dressing.

@SaynaTheSpiffy Жыл бұрын
@@fuckamericanidiot I heartily disagree. GOOD political bands are very, very funny. You have to be a band and an artist first and foremost but that doesn't mean your lyrics can't be political. And if you're really good you can even get away with a non-funny political song. It sounds like you might have a narrow view of what "political" means too. Everything that humans do is political to an extent. We're social animals.

Let me bounce something off Prof Sky and this comments section. I love the reviews you do on this channel and your passion for music. its for entertaining for me personally. After watching this review I think I may want to go try out Viagra Boys last album as well as DEVO. I love the music style in this album alot, its a ton of fun and very infectious to listen to but I was rather uncomfortable with the theme of the last song in particular. It feels like hes telling conspiracy theorists who beleive in micro chips and 5G and whatever that they are basically monkeys and they should leave society and essentially remove themselves from the gene pool. This feels a little de humanizing to me, Like would I feel the same way about flat earthers or Scientology? No because they got sucked in by some lies and believe something silly, that doesnt make them sub human monkeys worthy of exile does it? It feels a little dehumanizing to me and it made me uncomfortable with that specific song. Someone else let me know if I am missing something because it just comes off a little petty and childish to me. Also the lead singer was born in San Francisco and left when he was like 10 I believe

It strikes me as funny that there is an interview with Sebastian when he was asked about touring with the idles…to cut to the chase he criticizes the idles..of course its wrong to disrespect women but Im not gonna write a song about it. Basically the truth, virtue signaling is dumb. I love this band..but I am not a progressive. It’s really not the assumptions you and others make. Growing up in the 80s and 90s I watched my city be destroyed by leftism. Men are not wrong because they want their families to live in safety and prosperity. I have many left liberal views, and was a proud degenerate before I had a family lol l. seriously, a thought that keeps coming to mind the last few years is that progressives, now the establishment…have ruined the fun of degeneracy. As well as rebellion, etc. The new left criticize and stereotype anyone who does not agree with them 100%, and then accuse them of Fascism lol. Think I’m wrong…the left eats its own on a regular basis if they can’t keep up with the ever changing made up culture. If you don’t see that your not paying attention. The left used to stand up against censorship, against war, against the establishment…now they suck all of those things off.
