My dad and I had a 62 SS, stick shift, black with a red interior, I absolutely loved that car. We fell on hard times and had to sell it. That car will always hold a special place in my heart, what a great machine.

I am so sorry that you had to sell that beautiful car! I know that a lot of good memories were made with the car! I have had to sell some cars and things as well during my life. I think about what I have had to sell and it makes me really sad. But sometimes you have to do what you gotta do to make ends meet. I like to think of it as being a man. Thank you very much my friend for sharing your story! It touched me and makes me remember my life as well! Thanks!

2 door hardtop like yours are called "Sport Coupes" Some came with the antena on the right front fender and some on the right rear fender. Mine had it on the rear and I added the optional left rear fender antena to give it a more balanced look. Mine was Silver Poly Blue with blue interior and white molding inscripts. 283 powerglide. I now have a red 1964 SS 327/300 hp. 4 speed numbers matching car with white and red interior

Thanks for showing some of the details that differentiated the various 62 Chevys. My dad ordered a new 62 SS the minute they were released. The earliest deliveries did not have the swirl in the rear facia. They were just like the one you showed here. A friend of the family bought one a month or so later and, yes it had the swirl design. I drove that car for years.

Thank you very much for the kind words! I don't think I have ever seen an Impala that I didn't think was beautiful! My Aunt had a 1969 Chevy Impala that I wanted do bad. Had a 350/350 in it and it ran very good! It was a 2 door dark green with black vinyl top. I know that they are very similar to the 1970 Impala's. I love body style of them. I finally got a 1969 Chevy Impala and had it for a week and someone wanted it worse than me, so I sold it. Now I wish I had it back. But I have made a lot of dumb moves in my life! Lol. I'm a Ford man but I have always loved the old GM as well as the old everything else. I remember the 62 Impala because my aunt had 1 when I was a kid. I always loved that model year and yours is a sweet-looking vehicle. I never knew the differences between standard Impala and the SS. I got to say the 58 is one of my favorites too. Maybe the 61 also. But I'll take any one of them from 58 to 66. Again nice ride and thanks for the video.

I forgot to mention that the "bubble top" variation doesn't look near as good as your Impala with the simulated convertible 'crease' just above the back window. There were 4 roof-lines as I remember: The bubble top - the 2 and 4 door sedan - the convertible - and your style. Yours is best.

Hey buddy! The best I can remember about that is there is a little piece of metal that you can adjust so the glovebox door will open and shut. If not, let me know and I will try to help you if I can. Good luck to you my friend!

When I was a kid, my mom had a 62' wagon. It was black with red accents in the chrome side pieces and a red, I want to say leather, interior. I have search my mind and I cannot find a memory of it being otherwise. Anyway, my dad had put a 283 Vette' motor in it and it had dual exhaust with Thrush glass-pack mufflers. Not a very discreet sounding car. This was my mother's grocery getter and her daily driver. She also substituted as a teacher and would drive it to school. The guys in high always were wanting to buy the car. She had a 57' Belair wagon that was set up pretty much the same way prior to the 62'.

Always liked the 62,when I moved down to Florida from New York as an 18 year old left my Chevelle in NY needed a car for work and found a 62 Impala, black over red from North Carolina was a 327 but had a 283, coming from NY I was amazed how solid it was but sadly my father nixed that deal and I wound up with a 69 Volkswagen Bug the only foreign car I've ever owned, man I would love to have that Impala now, and in my opinion the regular trim is much cleaner than the engine turned SS trim!

On a 1962 Chevy you need to look for the typical rust issues. Hood, floorboards, trunk, etc. As far as a good deal, if you can even find one nowadays you are doing good! Lol. These cars are worth quite a bit of money fixed up but parts are very expensive to purchase! Do you homework and look on EBAYMOTORS to get an idea of what you might be getting into. I had a nice 62 Impala in the early 1990's. It was a 4 door hardtop without the pillars. It had so many options. The grille guard, electric windows, air conditioner, dual am antennas on the rear quarter panels, 409 turbo fire engine, all original. It was so beautiful and I miss it so much. I had to get rid of it in a hurry and not to go into a very long hurtful story, the cop who towed it to the impound contacted me and asked what I wanted to do with it. I told him I had no money to get it out or repair the damage, so I gave it to him. He said it was for his 7 year old daughter, who now cruises it in Deer Park Long Island all these years later.

Well Mr. Ross it sounds like you and I are a lot alike! If your 62 runs and drives good then I would just drive it like it is and enjoy it. I get more people look at "Patina Style" cars and trucks before they look at "fully restored" cars and trucks. I think it is because that someone can still picture in their heads what it can look like fully restored. I don't know if what I have said makes any sense. My first car (in 1978) was a red 1958 impala convertible with red interior. 348 four barrel and a power glide trans. I loved it but the floors were gone and after “working” on it some I realized it was too much for my skills and tools. Sure wish I had it now, I’d be able to fix it, ☹️. I replaced it with a 1967 Chevelle though so that was cool. 🙂 nice car, enjoyed the video. I guess if all options were available in any combination the only thing that makes it an SS is the trim? Are there any clues on the trim tag or the VIN that it was built as an SS?

Hello and thank you for sharing your story with me! Yes there is a way to tell on the Chevelle's Vin number. If it had a 136 it is a Malibu. If it has a 138 it's a an SS model. Some very early 62 Super Ports came with the regular Impala rear trim instead of the swirled SS trim. The supplier had issues. The dealer would swap over to the swirled trim if you brought the car back after it was in stock. I'm sure there are a few Super Sports out there with the standard rear trim.

Yes, my Deuce drop is original and did not have bezzled rear trim, nor the rear antennae. *but, I may have to grab that glove box cover from a ‘61.. oh, also I believe it should have two tone steering wheel.

Enjoyed your video. And yes, non-car people that impulse buy get taken every day on that sort of thing. Thanks for your time (though I'm a little late to the party on this one).

my dad bought us a 1962 impala the day before i was born and we’ve been working on it ever since. We’ve worked really hard on it but it’s not yet there yet. I’m trying to learn more for what i need to know about the car so i can get it in tip top shape

Congratulations on your Dad buying a 62 Chevy! They are really cool cars! I just recently sold mine after owning it 38 years! Send me a video of your car to Primeredisbest@comcast.net. Or my Instagram Messenger: Primered is best. Or Facebook Messenger Primered is Best. I look forward to seeing it! Just make the video no more than 3 minutes long. I can post it on my KZfaq channel: Primered is best. Thank you very much!

I had one of these back in the day, in 1968 it backfired , caught fire in the carburetor and went up in flames, totaled! It broke my heart. I had just returned from Nam the preceding year. I've driven an Impala ever since with a 2008 sitting in the driveway right now. There are 176,000 original miles on it. It's a question now if the car will outlast me or I will outlast it. Cheers.........

Thank you so much for sharing your story with me! And Thank You for your service in Nam! I really appreciate it! I have always loved the Chevy Impala's. They are good cars! My whole family were basically Chevy folks anyway. So it comes natural for me to prefer Chevy's. I will be doing more videos of this 62 Chevy this week. Please stay tuned as I believe that you will enjoy the story about my 62 Chevy! Thank you so much my friend! Please comment anytime! Thanks!
