Perth has a lot of bike paths, and they range in quality and width from very good to pretty average. The newest paths are so wide, you could mistake them for roads - whilst some of the older paths are so narrow, your handlebars almost touch when passing cyclists going the other way.
At least they are usually consistent as far as colour goes - only the really old paths from maybe 40 years ago don't have a red pigment in the asphalt mix. The paths are rarely painted red - they always mix the colour in before they lay it. Colouring them red is great - they are very easy to spot when you are lost.
The paths are also very smooth, even the old ones. They are laid on a firm foundation that results in an excellent surface, and it takes decades before tree roots or the weather starts to break them up.
Whenever a bike path intersects with another bike path, there is a give way sign - and you have to make sure you give way. There's so much bike traffic on these paths, you will have a collision if you aren't careful.

Great vid! Perth has some great bike paths making it easier to spend the day cycling away from the road.

You can take the Kwinana path almost all the way to Mandura, about 60km. Colleen did it in reverse back in 2014. If you're really keen you can zip up to the mountains about 20km to Dwellingup or Jarrahdale. Turn right, hook up with the Mundabiddi trail and go all the way to Albany.......

I had some friends over for a BBQ that night and one of them did the ride to Mandurah that morning - he got an extra sausage for his effort

Riding along a busy freeway is not my favorite breath of fresh air. I prefer a ride along railway lines like midland line
