The recreation of traditional architecture is getting more and more attention. For instance in Germany and Hungary whole palaces were rebuild recently. I hope this will inspire architects of today to overcome the taboo on using traditional ornaments in their designs of new buildings.

Andrew Zourides renaissance copied roman ruins, and as paint was vanished over time they did not add it: statues, columns and so on, all was left blank. And result of this is that even TODAY, the very modern sculptures, are not painted. We are still influenced by ruins and not actual roman art.

@@Dimitri88888888 My understanding is that this was done like a hundred years ago to “restore” sculptures because there was a belief that they were unpainted since the paint disappeared over time. We now know that ancient greek sculptures were painted since some of the paint remains on found sculptures. I think what this shows is that one must carefully examine one’s assumptions whether it’s art, politics, medicine or whatever.

Julius Caesar studied Rhetoric in Greece, wanted to emulate Alexander and preferred to talk in Greek. Augustus was the one who sanctioned the Aeneid Nero played the lyre. Julian the Apostate wanted a return to Greco-Roman Polytheism and wanted to emulate the Iliad on his Parthian campaign.

HELLO.Please consider that most of the antic Roman architecture goes by rules which allow already with only parts left to recalculate all the missing parts. P ex. Columns always should be built according to very precise proportions and what is added on top of these also mostly goes by these rules. The archaeologists found many even tiny fragments of these buildings and when they see such parts they can deduct a lot from these. Where they must have been placed because most decorative elements also go by rules. Once you got a base of a column it is usually very possible to deduct from its dimensions the final height of the building which went along with such columns. Windows and doors will have proportions accordingly. The archaeologists will find small parts of the buildings which for the stone recyclers and looters had no value. Broken tiles, fragments of marble.. broken window glass... all this is enough to determine the look of major parts of such leveled ancient properties.

It could probably be done with approval from the Roman Goverment and enough money, but such construction techniques would be astronomically expensive because of the pure and precious materials that were used to originally construct these places!

@@MoncoCarser Matter of fact these maps are already made, as shown in the video. All it takes is to export them to an FPS game and everyone can visit using VR headsets. Anyway Matthew has already said he's converting this to VR format. Hope that means 360 VR. Can't wait.

A couple of thoughts that might help with that.. The knowledge isnt lost. We know how to carve and stack rocks, how to pour Roman cement. Etc. The beauty is degraded as time does to all things, but there is also much beauty being created by todays artists and artisans. Don't become so wrapped up in the past that you loose sight of the beauty being made now. Next, not everything about those houses were so wonderful... no glass in any of the windows. Finally recall the cost of creating and maintaining that house in human lives, the number of free staff and of slaves needed to make it and keep it working for the good of the handful who actually got to live in it. Some things come at too high a cost. Roman wealthy residences came at the cost of huge numbers of free living in six and seven story apartment buildings that frequently fell down due to poor construction orthat caught fire and burned entire neighborhoods. Cicero was an infamouse slum lord and once commented that he was glad one of his tenements fell because he could charge more for tooms in a newer building.

I completely agree, we have completely lost touch with nature and our artistic tastes are dwindling. Modern artists sell absolute rubbish for millions while talented ones struggle to get by on patron money or as designers for AAA video games or film sets if they are lucky. There are many great people who live in silence, I wish I was one of them but I can't say I am.

There are palaces or estates whatever is PR to say these days that are way larger and even more extravagant today. Just like then, you're part of the the rabble never invited to see it. Hidden away so the masses won't get pissed they're being exploited while others live even better than emperors or kings of old. BUT! Unlike then, you can rent some Mc-mansions for a few days for a few thousand dollars or more... and some were so grotesquely extravagant it eventually caused the dynasty to sell or abandon it and are now museums and/or hotels us rabble can visit and actually enjoy a little. And remind ourselves how exploited we all are.... and how hoggish rich can be they eat themselves up and lose it all. Google will show you some. And then there are many more that are hidden away.
