Hilariously, this was my intro to DEP, I was a Metal Head and Techno fan, took a day off work with a freind, we drove down to Atlanta to hit Tower Records then go to little five points and hit Criminal records, when I was shooting the breeze with an employee who clued me in on this ep. The Come to Daddy cover being my bait. I snagged a copy because I was a big Faith No More fan, it opened me up to a ton of new music. I probably became a huge Converge fan because of DEP and countless other bands. KZfaq is great, but I miss good local record shops.

Honestly I think dillinger would've better(even though it's hard to improve what is damn near perfect) with a rotating vocalist spot, working with 1 vocalist for an album and a tour. Maybe I'm wrong, but it would've been a great idea and would've opened the group up to do alot more experimenting, kind of like a hard as fuck BADBADNOTGOOD

Trevor Jacobs I love that idea! That really would’ve been the way to go. Imagine Bjork doing a Dillinger record? I dunno why I thought of her but I Think after working w Patton and her and playing w NIN so much as they have they would have been perfectly rounded out for limitless originality

If life and Covid permits, I'll finally be seeing the first Bungle show in 20 years. I don't know if you got to see their online Halloween show last year, but it was sheer perfection! You chose a weird album to start with man. Being post-Minakakis and pre-Puciato it's sorta the odd-ball of D.E.P. records, still, with Mike Patton on vocals it's quite the treat. I mean, what other math-core bands can say they got the pleasure of playing beside Mike Patton, let alone record a record with him on vocals, it's pretty wild even thinking about it. Look into "Calculating Infinity" and after that "Miss Machine," this band has a very diverse selection of sounds, as well as vocalists just within the time of releasing 5 full length albums and 4 eps. Don't be so quick to judge from listening to the band's odd-ball record (than again, mike patton did amazing on this record.)

A lot of comments about not “getting” it. Let’s be real; you don’t have to be smart or alternative to get dep or any of Patton’s stuff, I will say it helps a lot to be either a guitarist or drummer because I will agree this was both Patton and dep’s creative peak. They were pre Greg and still in one piece physically and mentally and if I recall Patton was working on tomahawk at this point. Could be wrong, I personally think this is the alt metal equivalent of peanut butter and jelly and I will miss this band until my last breath.
