Man how things changed between the bounty bowls and body bag game to bounty gate. Late 80s it was practically advertised as the NFLs version of a reality TV show before hard knocks, then when actually bounty gate happened and it went from intriguing drama to sell at game to giving the NFL a black eye

Charles Martin for Green Bay wore a hitlist on his towel for players he was going to get in the 1986 season against Chicago, week 12. He slammed Jim McMahon onto his shoulder 2 seconds after he threw the pass ending his season. This shouldve been Bounty Bowl 1.

Seems to me that everyone forgets the animosity between the Cowboys and Eagles since Dallas came into the NFL in 1960. Almost every game was played extremely hard by one team or another or both. The Eagles fans will never forget what Dallas did to Harold Carmichael during 1 game in particular.
@kellyjohnson9394
@kellyjohnson9394 9 ай бұрын
I watched Carmichael get destroyed well out of bounds and the coward referee made no call. As a young Eagles fan, that was the beginning of my disdain for the cowgirls. Buddy Ryan built a defensive but neglected the offense even though they had Randle Cunningham and some very good wide receivers, they hated each other although they were on the same team. The Eagles defense was the reason I loved Ryan’s teams even though they were I’ll-prepared for their playoff games with the exception of the fog bowl playoff game in Chicago where two touchdown passes were dropped in the end zone.

I attended the original Bounty Bowl, Thanksgiving '89. The game was blacked out in DFW, so my uncle Rick had scooped up some tickets. While it was very hard to be a Cowboys fan at the time, even as a seven-year-old kid realized that this team was gonna get better as the 80s ended and the 90s began. As good of a defensive mind as he was, there was no doubt that Buddy Ryan was a real jerk and not a very good head coach. Jimmy Johnson ended up getting the last laugh, winning two Super Bowls while Buddy Ryan never won a single playoff game with Philly as a head coach.

In that forgettable replacement player game, Landry was forced to play Dorsett, Jones, White and whoever else because the veteran contracts contained a clause whereby veterans would forfeit long term annuities if they sat out. Tex Schramm was the culprit behind all this and it affected the team's morale for a number of years thereafter. Landry could have complained or explained the situation but his nature was to follow managment's orders like "the good soldier" that he was. He didn't like it but took the heat silently. An embarrassment for the Dallas franchise at that time in history and right up Buddy Ryan's motivational alley.

Remember, Dallas ended up in the NFL/NFC East because original GM, Tex Schramm was a MASTER POLITICIAN who wanted the rivalries with those notorious northeast teams, the Eagles and the Giants. ANYBODY can hate New Yorker's, anybody can hate Philadelphian's (less so with D.C. as that was more Jack Kent Cooke than the city). Just ask the Bay Area and Hollywood what they think of those two in ALL sports (sans college). In Dallas' case, they rose to prominence of becoming the MOST NOTORIOUS franchise in the NFC to the point that the northeast cities (that normally don't want a Texas team in their division) were willing to make an exception. Dallas is now the biggest rival for Washington, Philadelphia and even the Giants. But the other Dallas/Arlington teams don't have that notorious nature like their football counterparts. Thus you don't see the Yankees/Knickerbockers/Rangers etc. clamoring the Rangers/Mavericks/Stars to be in their division. Jerry Jones (who fired and replaced Schramm) is "meet the new boss, same as the old." And that's why the Cowboys are still an NFC East team to this day. Dallas is more likelier to move to, and become the Quebec Cowboys than leaving the NFC East!

@mojoschmee9320
@mojoschmee9320 8 ай бұрын
That's not really accurate. It was the rivalry with the team in D.C. that inspired the Cowboys placement in the far off NFC East. This was due to the fact that the owner of the Redskins was the only owner that had been preventing the approval of an expansion team in Dallas, as most people who didn't have a local team, cheered for the team in the national capitol. So, Clint Murchison, Jr, the original owner of the Dallas Cowboys, went and purchased the rights to the song, "Hail to the Redskins", since no one had ever thought to do it. Then, Murchison basically extorted the Redskins, said they couldn't play their own fight song unless expansion was approved. And thus, a rivalry was born. The rivalries with Philly and NYG are just the results of countless crazy games like the one featured in this video.

Then the Eagles kicked the shit out of Dallas 2000 to 2012! They beat Dallas in the 90s as well, I remember Bobby Taylor used to shut Irvin down! He couldn't push off Taylor and Vincent! Irvin used to cry like a baby, his career was also ended in the Vet! Good Times

Bountygate was BS. Payton gets draft picks taken away and suspended for a year. A f’n YEAR. Belichick gets what, a 5th rounder taken away for SPYING on competition

Buddy Ryan was a despicable human being. Yes he is the architect of 85 bears defense. Punching an assistant? Bounties and body bags. Guy was a p.o.s.

The Saints' biggest crime was getting caught! Giving incentives to players to injure the opposition was commonplace in the 70s and 80s. During that time defensive players general mentality was to hurt the opponent.

Eagles fan here…..we hate the Cowboys like no other NFL team….because they’re known as America’s team with prima donas and a also they beat the hell out of us for years….payback for the cowboys has no expiration date. I would get chicken wings at halftime from Vet stadium concession just to throw the bones at Cowboy fans. Even our popular TV sports anchor Howard Eskin calls cowboy fans cockroaches, never gets old.

Gotta love the Philadelphia fans. They booed and threw snowballs at Santa Claus, so, it wasn’t shit to throw at players or the announcers booth.

We throw them at each other, too. People get stabbed and killed at games at the West Coast but, boy those snowballs are the worst.

Im an Eagles fan who gets in arguments with fellow Eagles fans all the time about Buddy Ryan. He is the most overrated coach in team history. Exciting regular season play is nice. Winning in the playoffs and getting to the big show is what matters. Ryan never even sniffed a Bowl appearance during his whole time in Philly.
