Property Manager Gavin is tasked with investigating a derelict property in the northern city of Sheffield with the aim of returning the house to the property market. His worst fears come true the moment he opens the front door and is hit with a wall of stench…
Gavin calls in a pair of extreme cleaners who we follow as they go about this house of horrors in an attempt to clear and clean it and make it a home again.

I recently re-watched an old Swedish childrensmovie, on a Dutch tv channel. Instead of dubbing it, we had a Dutch voice-over, that'd repeat whatever they said (they didn't say much to begin with.) At some point, a child was playing with a cat and an older woman said; 'Stop bringing my cat to your home, neighbour-child." The voice-over went; ''You can't bring the cat here each time', she says..." The woman in the video went: "You can play with the cat at mý place..." And the voice-over said; 'Miss Neighbour tells him, that he can play with the cat at her place. (silence.) I doubt he wants that.." I never realized that remark wasn't in the original text xD The voice-over just saw the child frowning and felt the need to add that explanation xD

“Is it free from vermin?” “I’d say... no”. This is a sad one for me, this isn’t a house that has been trashed with parties or filled with shopping, it’s loneliness, neglect and disease. I’d be horrified if any of my family were living like this and I didn’t know. As one of the gents says, it’s no way to live.

*I have a saying “messy house means a messy mind”* Last year I was was staying in a broken down house with 6 strange (and much older) men I didn’t know, in a room filled with 4 + recent tenants crap everywhere, at the end we were all kicked out during the pandemic meaning I was going to be homeless and I went through a really sad breakup, lost my job and found out I had to rehome my rescue cats that I’ve had for 5 years (this all happened in one week and during covid btw), in my last month in that crap hole I got so depressed I stopped caring for myself and my big room ended up like a bomb went off, I had no care anymore I was just wanting and waiting to die, the men that lived there made me so uncomfortable and miserable I’d rather leave my rubbish piled up in my room rather than leave my room. I watch these with a new perspective now. I know how they feel, maybe not this intensely but similar. I had no family, no friends, I had literally nothing left. Loneliness kills, please check up on someone a 5 minute phone call could’ve changed my life at one point. If you’re curious I now have a lovely tidy home and a beautiful ✨clean✨ bedroom with only my belongings and my two kitties are with me and I didn’t end up losing them because I worked my ass off to make sure I had my fur babies with me and life is getting better!

I just find it all a bit sad, these videos. I'm aware I'm just another middle class bloke online gawking at it myself, so can't really take any sort of high ground. But just commenting or laughing at them saying "they're dirty", "they're disgusting" seems unfair. There must be some serious shit going on in these people's heads or their lives for their living space to end up like this. Some people's lives descend down some very dark spirals and you never know what's truly going on behind the doors of a house.

@@liveandletlive497 I am someone that hoards/hoarded stuff but I've kept it very clean. I don't drink or smoke, I don't have a pet, there's no food or anything organic in there, no pests or mould or otherwise. But there *are* big stacks of boxes, crafting-items, fabrics and materials and I only have a small home, there's no space left for me. So about 3 years ago, I told my "caretaker" (I have autism, she visited me twice a week) that I wanted to clean it up a bit and sort through the stuff. She left 2 months later, due to a career-switch and my new caretaker was a woman with OCD and an attitude like a provoked rhino. I had her 'help me' for about a year, but "cleaning up" with her was like trashing the place, as if I hated myself and wanted to destroy my items. She'd throw items away that were placed on the table or food that I was about to eat. She kept muttering; 'Gross!' whenever she found a few coins laying around and kept commanding; 'Away with this useless trash, away with this useless trash!" I'd then retrieve my headbands, necklaces, newspapers and shoes from the "bin"-box (clean box, to store the items that she wanted me to throw out) and I'd hide them in another box or bag, in the "already-cleaned" area. This went on for a year and at the end, she was fired because the other autistic people refused to open the door if she visited, out of fear. I was the only one that still let her in, but if I protested about throwing stuff out, she'd raise her voice, call me names and I'd just sit down and watch her throw it out. And cry afterwards, feeling like a complete failure. Then, I was told there would be a new caretaker soon. I was excited. Instead, they couldn't find anyone, but I did get a new neighbour, who threatened me with violence, prostituted herself loudly, abused her child and scream day and night (just at herself too) while trashing the house and breaking my gardenstatues. So I spend the 2,5 years during that situation, with escaping the noisy house, ignore the horrible noises, and buying more items and promising myself that 'when she's gone, I will craft again, I've got all the items I need." And near the end of those 2,5 years, my house was packed. The floor is still clean and clear, but there's boxes and stacks up the wall. Most things secondhand, some things new. I got a new caretaker near the end of those years and so, they did help me a bit, but it's a lot of work. I've donated a lot of stuff (about 14 shopping-bags of items, the big ones + about 8 bags of clothes) and I got rid of some large items, like a huge flowerpot and two cabinets. My house is about half as full as it was before. But it's very difficult at times, to figure out when to clean and when to go outside and enjoy the sun. And when to hold onto a project and when to let go. When to listen to the caretaker's opinion and when to trust your own judgement. Luckily, my new caretaker allows me to be human and asks questions rather than urging me to throw things out (which wouldn't be her place anyway.) After 2-3 questions (what do you want to use it for, do you think you'll need it soon, is there something you particularly like/dislike about it?) I already know, most of the time, whether it stays or not. We've worked through a lot of stuff this way. She writes down what I am missing (things that I threw out, but needed in a better quality or want in a different colour) and when I find it, I buy it. I manage my 'intake' of items carefully and thriftshopping (as a much needed relief) is done with care this time...not with the goal to drag as much stuff in as I can. Knowing I still have a (small and manageable) amount of "new inspiration" coming in, it allows me to get rid of other things easier. I bought a pillowcase and 5 books last week. After which I sorted through all my 8 (plastic) boxes of books and sold 3 full boxes to a teacher who has a children's library at her school. I'll keep up the good work :)

@@liveandletlive497 Thanks :) It's also a good thing that the one I currently have, recognizes when I say; 'yes' when I mean 'no.' She also took on the task of (partially..not too much) finding a good home for some of the items. She'll take a picture and let me know where she brought the stuffed toys/dresses/scarf/glasses or she'll text me; 'The person who wanted the books, only reads crime-novels now, do you mind if I take it to the thriftshop?' and I can decide there and then, there's full transparency, that makes it very easy to trust her. Now I look back, as soon as the second caretaker started to secretly throw items away, I should've shut the door for her too. If I ever get in a similar situation, I will do that now :) Just because I have "made a mess" and collected too many things, doesn't mean I deserve hard treatment or scolding. Oh and my parents were always involved too, they always keep an eye out if they see me having a 'hoarding'-moment again (I'll call them and announce I want to go to the thriftshop for the third time this week) and they warn me, get the question-schedule and suggest to do something else. It's easy to recognize the signs now, usually I get the urge to take (many) new things into the house when there's sound-overstimulation around me or a certain type of stress or when a very-much-awaited-appointment is cancelled and I need to re-arrange my day. I now often recognize it myself too and either watch a DVD or pick up litter outside. Or I buy it anyway, put it in the hallway and then clean out a few boxes in my cabinets first, before I feel I am 'allowed' to bring it into the room. Use it as a motivation :)

Gosh I wonder how many hours that took? I can spend a good bit of my day cleaning my home, dusting, windows, washing floors etc; I live in a large 150 year old cottage which I rent and it is gorgeous. Mixture of old and new living in harmony. I love it but downside is the amount of large rooms.

Same! I live in a 120 year old cottage. It takes a day or two for the dust to fall. I clean everyday, after my 7am- 6pm job, but living in such a gorgeous house is worth it, an hour a day keeps it pristine xxxx

Got recommended this video after watching a couple of episodes of Call The Cleaners. What a difference in the attitude. One of the women in the CtC even said: "You never know what happens behind the closed door. Be compassionate, be kind, listen." None of that judgemental 'how can you live like this' BS we see here. Yes, Gavin, people out there are lonely and have mental health issues.
