I've followed The Beatles since I was a little kid growing up in the early 70's. I've always felt tremendous regret that I wasn't alive yet while they were still together, I was born in 1970, the year they broke up. I listened to them with my mother, brother, sister and my father. They were our favorites from the time I was born until now. We all felt the same about John Lennon, we felt as though he was the greatest of all the Beatles, we felt that he was the real leader of the group and that he guided them to what they became. Early on in their careers it was really Lennon that led them, and we seemed to like his songs from the group the most. We liked his voice the most, we liked his songwriting the most, we loved them all but John was definitely our favorite. He was a man with a lot of hurt inside that he carried with him throughout his life. In my strong opinion he was the very best of all time

The trouble is that the Beatles songs you have heard so far have all been recordings from the early to mid 1960s. Those did have a particular style. But over time (the Beatles recorded between 1963 and 1970) their style evolved and changed, becoming much more sophisticated and ground breaking. Try reacting to later songs such as Come Together, Let It Be, Revolution... And I suggest listening to the original studio recordings.

Most people only know their #1's. They made something like 200 songs in 10 years. Wrote 300! I Don't want to Spoil the Party, I'm A Loser, Baby's in Black, For No One, and my personal favorite I've Just Seen A Face. A just a few examples. I didn't know about most of these until The Beatles channel on Satellite radio.

@@MountainVibespodcast Yeah, one should go for the deeper cuts, like the one's you've mentioned. Also, Dear Prudence, Baby, You're a Rich Man, Blue Jay Way, Julia, Why Don't We Do it in the Road, etc. The Beatles are just so freaking amazing.

you're a cool dude MRM - Lennon's vocals are brilliant - no auto-tune, no enhancements, just straight-up singing. this is a Beatles song from 'The White album,' you should watch their roof top concert and the song, 'Don't Let Me Down' - anyway a great channel you have sir!

Great video! This was actually a Beatles song. You mentioned being used to The Beatles "style"... The Beatles had no particular style. They were extremely diverse... as can be seen by this song. The Beatles were singing "I Want to Hold Your Hand" just 4 years before this song was recorded on The White Album... just amazing development! Anyway, thanks for doing this video. So much talent on that stage!

Haha YES!! This was a side project of his. The guitarist on his left was Keith Richards from The Rolling Stones. The one on his right, was Eric Clapton (Who also did the guitar solo). And the drummer Mitch Mitchel, was from The Jimi Hendrix Experience. John was more the rocker of the Beatles. It was one of the problems that caused friction between he and Paul McCartney. Paul wanting a more pop sound.

This was from a television special. The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus. I'm too young to know much about it. But, Love all those guys music. A couple other great rockers from the Beatles are, Twist and Shout, and Helter Skelter. Great examples of how heavy they could get.

@@mentalo2801 Helter Skelter was his response to people talking about The Who's sound. He showed they could be just as edgy. But, as The Beatles evolved individually. Their styles and opinions changed as to what kind of music they wanted to create. John was always a rebel, from day one. But Paul, gravitated to a more pop sound. Because, it made sense from a business standpoint.

Yeah, Lennon was always the wild child in the Beatles right from the start, wearing a false bravado to help shield himself from the pains in life. Prior to being cleaned up for the masses by Brian Epstein in 1963, Lennon had famously performed in Hamburg wearing a toilet seat around his neck. He helped to bring the hard edge and introspection to the Beatles evident in songs like Rain, I'm So Tired, Revolution, Come Together and Don't Let Me Down. Good stuff here. Thanks for reviewing this bit of history.

You need to listen to more Beatles if you think they have one particular style. They didn’t. They were all over the place. The same band that did “I Want To Hold Your Hand” is the same band that did this song “Yer Blues”, that did “Within You Without You”, “Helter Skelter”, “Yesterday”, “Tomorrow Never Knows”, “Here Comes The Sun”, “When I’m Sixty Four”, “I Want You/She’s So Heavy”, “Act Naturally”, “Strawberry Fields”, “Taxman”, “Here There And Everywhere”, “A Day In The Life”, and so on. Please go and listen to a wider range of their material.

Since this is two years old and I didn't go through all the comments, I wonder if anyone mentioned why Clapton smirked after the change. Well, the song has a time change. It changes from a three count to a four count for the solo. Mitchell screwed up the transition which resulted in Clapton's deprecating smirk. I believe there is a second take where Mitchell gets it right. That time change is a testament to Lennon's song writing ability. I believe a cover band would require talented musicians to cover "Yer Blues" properly.

Don't worry about the cloaks man! 😆 this was from the Rolling Stones Rock n Roll Circus film. The theme was supposed to be like 60s rock acts in a circus. So many were wearing witches hats and cloaks or robes. This film was made in Dec 1968 but was never released at the time. The rumor why is that the Rolling Stones didn't like their performance and how it came out on film. They finally did release it 30 years later or something. You had the Dirty Mac , Jethro Tull, the Who , and the Stones and a few others. The dirty Mac was the first or one of the first super groups with Eric Clapton from Cream on lead guitar, Keith Richards from the Rolling Stones on Bass, Mitch Mitchell from the Jimi Hendrix Experience on drums , and John Lennon of the Beatles on lead vocal and rhythm guitar. They only played this one time together though.
