The Moody Blues made music that glides between space and time, lifting us into the pastures of the sun and putting our souls to flight. I am deeply grateful to be born in the 1950s at a time when magic and mystery enriched our minds and music rocked us like a mother 💐

I first heard them in 67 back when I was 15 and immediately loved their music. It was Rock,but it wasn’t , it lifted you and you floated along . I read The Hobbit,and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy ,for the first time, while listening to them . They seemed to pull me along through the stories and adventures. I’ve listened to them now for 55 years, can’t say that for any other band.

They are most accomodating and friendly musicians you can imagine. Thank you for grouping these lesser known Moddies songs. Long live the Moody Blues. RIP Ray Thomas. 🥰🎄🎁🙏🏼☕️🍩

Great music indeed. Big Moody Blues fan here. The song Island at the start of this song list I believe was recorded right after they had recorded the album Seventh Sojourn, as they thought at first they would include it on a new album after Seventh Sojourn in 1974, but instead they ended up going their separate ways until 1978 when they got back together to record the Octave album. Island is a beautiful song. I wish they HAD included it on Octave ! Would have made that album even better than it was. Octave was a decent, good album with songs like The Day We Meet Again and Mike Pinders One Step Into the Light, but including Island on That album would have made it stronger.
@fenwayify3 жыл бұрын
"Simply Magic" is my favorite from the songs played here and John Lodge really stands out as much as anyone. At the same, I love the Octave album, it's my personal favorite. Pinder's mellotron work, lyrics and vocals added such depth and gravity to the Moody Blues. His departure left a void that seemingly was never recaptured...
@pauledwards39923 жыл бұрын
Fenwaify- I totally agree that when Mike Pinder left the group, the keyboard and mellotron orchestra type sound that the Moody Blues had died with it. Don't get me wrong, when they recorded with Patrick Moraz in the 1980s, he was very talented, but it was a synthesizer type orchestrated sound, not that soothing , eerily deep, resonant, haunting sound that Mike Pinder brought to the group from the mid 1960s through 1978. It just sounded more Moody Blues with Mike Pinders mellotron and keyboards. I feel Patrick Moraz felt like a more pretend, or a plastic imitation of what Mike Pinders sound brought to the group.
@fenwayify3 жыл бұрын
@@pauledwards3992 There's a handful of post '78 stuff that I like, including solo Hayward efforts, though I haven't explored other solo work by other bandmates. Still, Pinder did more than just add sound; he composed three of my all-time favorite Moody Blues tunes: "Melancholy Man," "Have you Heard" and "One Step into the Light." I think he brought a contemplative soul to the band, a mystical element combined with a searching honesty. The fact that he left the band to focus on his family seems oddly mature in the wild rock and roll arena. His disregard of Edge was a mistake, which he later expressed. I just wish I could have heard far more from him with the band...Also, his limited inclusion/participation at the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony/performance was very disappointing. Above all, I wanted to see him with the band on his glorious mellotron. Ah, such is life; wonder, compromise and loss...
@pauledwards39923 жыл бұрын
Fenwaify- Undeed I totally agree with what you wrote. Been a huge Noody Blues fan myself since my teen years. I love those Pinder songs you mentioned. I even play Melancholy Man and One Step Into the Light on guitar. I'm a singer/ songwriter / musician myself. Getting ready to release a new album soon with 23 original songs me and my son wrote. But I also really miss Mike Pinder and his great vibes he brought to the Moodies. I also thought it was really wise of him to commit to his family at the time he did it. Showed a lot of courage on his part. I'm glad we still have all of their music though. Take care my friend, stay safe. Peace out, Paul
