It reminds me of Dr. Zalost from Courage the Cowardly Dog. (coincidently there was also once an episode with a giant land starfish in the cartoon, so here we see two Courage the Cowardly Dog villains together)

So if a starfish were to split in half, and the respective halves were to grow back what was missing, would it be like a clone?
@macaryl953 жыл бұрын
Yes, asexual reproduction results in clones.
@LenWeirdo2 жыл бұрын
Kinda scary tho, imagine doing that to like one starfish and duplicating them ll the time
@Dutchsnake52 жыл бұрын
@@LenWeirdo This did kind of happen. Fishermen (particularly those who fished for oysters) sliced and cut starfish into pieces when they found them in their traps and nets, thinking that they had killed them, and would then cast them back into the ocean. This only made the problem worse as some of the pieces still contained the central disk, which made the population explode and the problem even worse.

There was a TV show in the '80's that cloned Seastars and demonstrated, that when separated by distance and solid walls, physically manipulating one would cause the other to assume the same shape. I think the show was hosted by Issac Asimov or Leonard Nimoy?

When they divide again do they do it at the original bifurcation, or do they include old and new arms in each half?????????????????
@DunedinAquarium2 жыл бұрын
Kia ora Herbert - thank you for this interesting question. We will share this with our educators and be in touch!
@DunedinAquarium2 жыл бұрын
Kia ora Herbert - Some sea stars will divide at the original bifurcation but some won't, it depends on the species. Some of our educators at the NZ Marine Studies Centre have observed 3 and 3 and 4 and 4 stars dividing at the same bifurcation each time.

In Genesis 9:3-4 God tells us that a person cannot cut off the limb of a living animal. In Exodus, the Ten Commandments reminds us that we are supposed to treat animals with respect and care, particularly those who work our lands

This is what happens when a starfish is too lazy to get married and have kids. Jesus Christ is Coming Back! I’m not asking you to get religious - 2 minutes of your time: To be Saved just confess out loud to GOD and admit that you are a sinner in need of a Saviour and confess that you believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay for your sins, was buried, and was raised back to Life on the third day. 1 Cor 15:1-4. GOD is listening to you and He will write your name down in His Book of Life so that you may enter Heaven. Jesus Christ did everything for us, the only obstacle left is our Free Will - Do you want to go to Heaven?

Try doing actual research, idiot. Starfish do asexual reproduction by performing mitosis, thus splitting itself in half, and creating a clone.
