After watching this, that was my most prevalent thought, too!! I love when Magic recounts these times. Magic is a tremendous storyteller, AND he doesn't hold back on giving praise to his former rivals. Despite being such a star, he excitedly tells stories where he is not the star. His tales of Jordan are great!

Some of the things people don't realize is this move was done during a playoff game. Against one of the greatest teams ever! And against probably the greatest Center ever to play the game let alone top three players ever to play in the NBA!

Someone once completed Mikhail Barishnikof, the ballet dancer, on his jumping ability. He downplayed the compliment, saying that all his jumps were preplanned. “I’m not like these basketball players, who improvise in mid air.” He might have had this play in mind.

Dr. J said "just another move" because when he played in the ABA, he did moves like this very often. But since the ABA didn't have a TV contract not many people saw them. It wasn't until he switched to the NBA, where the mainstream audience began to see acrobatics like this.

Watched that game live and couldn't believe my eyes, no one could, he defied gravity. As MJ reaspondedv to who was the best, while judging a slam dunk contest, "Dr. J invented all of us." No one had played like that before. He gave basketball players something to aspire to and surpass. But he was the first, the original. Dr. J set the gold standard.

What I find amazing watching it is seeing how every player goes up at the same time. But Dr J somehow stays in the air longer than everyone else. Most of the other players are already on the ground while Dr J is still up there. His hang time is incredible.

I saw this live. It's one of those moments words can't explain. Doc had nowhere to go. NOWHERE! They had him cut off. He couldn't pass or shoot...so what was he going to do? That was the thought process looking at it LIVE in REAL TIME! You had to see it LIVE to understand why it seemed impossible what he did...Words cannot explain it.

Yes, the Doc was my fave back in the day. We all must remember the guys Doc looked up to including "The Hawk" Connie Hawkins who got a very raw deal or we would be talking about him with all the legends today...Elgin also had hang time back in the day.

Best in game lay up you will ever see. The hang time and the seeming impossibility of making anything out of getting pushed by the defense so far behind the back board. And his "Rock The Baby" dunk was the best in game dunk of all time. And both these shots were against the Lakers in the Finals.

I was around 12 when this happened. I witnessed it live and was like "WTF?" When we won the NBA finals, it was just as great as my Eagles also winning the SB!! I'm so glad I go to see the Phillies, Flyers, Eagles, and Sixers all win championships in my lifetime.

Naw homie. Your memory is failing you. I'm the same age as you. This was game 4 of the series we lost to the Lakers. We won this game and tied it up, but we lost this series.... The Rock the baby dunk, over Cooper, happened during our Championship season, but that was a regular season game.

Just another move! That sums up Dr.J in a nutshell! Likely the most humble,unselfish Superstar to play any major sport!! Almost to a fault! Especially, the last 3 or 4 years of his career, he really didn't care if he scored 20 or 15 or 10 as long as the team won! I used to get upset at him through the TV."Come on Doc, Shoot more",I'd yell," Your passing too much!"' How he didn't end up with more assist then he did,is a mystery to me!

Anyone that has ever played knows the rule....."you don't leave your feet unless you know what you are going to do." Doc broke the rule, but had the talent to make that spectacular move. When the rest of us tried that move we didn't have the talent to pull it off.

I'm a diehard Laker fan, grew up hating the Celtics, but man O man...Bird was incredible...as Magic put it, "He was frightening!" I'll never forget the '84 finals...still hurts. I'll never forget the '87 3-point contest, I still hold my finger up before the swish!! And I will NEVER forget the game he had against the Hawks where he dropped 60...there will NEVER be another Larry Bird...EVER!! #muchrespect
