I remember when this first came out. In the original trim that this came with if I am not mistaken it would not have been able to get the same amount of tow ratings that slt trim would have been able to due to the changes that Shelby made to the suspension. My brother in law bought the performance Dakota and the ratings were significantly less than the other trims that they started off of. It was all due to the fact that the changes were done to the tuning and performance of the engines that they could not account for the extra cooling needed to sustain the additional strain put on the remaining parts and still be able to ensure that everything would be able to last for the factory warranty period. So with that in mind they lowered all of the towing numbers of all performance vehicles that were made until the release of the new Jeep was made and the new SRT Durango.

Awesome to see some the 2nd gen Durango Dakotas get some respect . As an current orginal owner of factory ordered 2001 Dakota quad cab sport with 137700 miles it was a great a great watch. I still love my truck and think this generation has some of the nicest body work of the 2000s . Dodge pushed the envelope by offering v8s in these midsize trucks when nobody was doing it and they where the top of there class in the day for performance towing and cargo and interior capacities. I still get compliments on mine and nobody can believe it's has a V8! It's always interesting at a stop light! . Further more the 360 in this clip was the 5.9 also offered in Dakota but the 4.7 was a better fit for the truck in my opinion . Better design more efficient and smoother and was with in 5 or 10 hp of the larger motor . Too bad they stopped production of the 4.7 in latter yrs there was even a ho version putting out 300 hp.. .

The 99 slt+ with the 5.9l where rated for 7,200lbs towing. I would assume the sp360 is the same.

Badass vehicle! The Durango always got all the cool packages/treatments, and the Grand Cherokee was either just a test platform or simply forgotten about by Chrysler leadership. Nowadays it's kinda the opposite, what with the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk getting the hellcat engine. Made me think, though... How awesome would it be to supercharge a '98 Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited?!
