This is part one of our Dolomite Adventure. The Dolomites are a collection of craggy limestone mountains in Northern Italy. Within its boundaries there are 10 Alta Via’s or high ways. While the Alta Via 1 is the most popular we’ve chosen to do the more rugged and demanding Alta Via 2. The Alta Via 2 is around 100 miles in length and contrary to what I read online it is closer to 40,000ft of elevation gain rather than 33,000ft. The path begins above the town of Brixen/Bressanone on the slopes of Mount Plose and ends 100 miles later in the town of Feltre, Italy. Between those two towns are steep climbs up loose rocks, perilous stone walkways along cliff edges, scrambles on stone faces with the help of cables and rebar and lots and lots of Coke and French fries eaten in Rifugio’s along the way. It’s all so continental. The Alta Via 2 provides a unique and challenging mountain adventure in a place of unparalleled beauty.

Mad respect, you guys are just incredibly strong. We were just in the general area two weeks ago, and the Dolomites are one of Europes absolute treasures. Can't believe how you run a marathon, climb some fairly intimidating ascents and still manage to capture the beauty of the scenery as well as you do. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your trip, and you've inspired us to take a closer look at the Alta Vias someday soon - but at a more leisurely pace ;-)

Hey Danny I'm sorry to hear about the headache and nausea issues in the last two videos, I know that headaches can be commonly triggered by overheating but I think that with it being combined with nausea this could definitely warrant some further investigation just to rule anything more serious out. Also just want to say how much appreciation I have for this channel, you manage to capture the essence of these adventures so well and you're providing such a massive inspiration for us all to get out there into the wilderness and to be constantly expanding our comfort zones. Take care and here's to many more MA adventures!

As someone who lives within a few hours drive of the Alps this video is really interesting to see. Here I am watching your videos and dreaming of the wild and much less developed american mountains, often wishing to escape the masses in the alps, while for you the comforts of that developement make for a welcomed change. Awesome to see it from a totally new perspective.

I like the undeveloped mess of many American mountain ranges. Exploring in the American Rockies is a damn jig saw puzzle and mess, so sprawled in many places. But the Wilderness Areas are sublime once you put the work in and the other major mountain ranges also have plenty of difficult access: don’t get me started on Alaska and my, my, Western Canada as well.

I thought just the same thing watching this video. These days I was wondering how wonderful would that be, to be in the "true" wilderness of the United States, without so many people around. And seeing this video, them being so appreciative of the rifugi and to have a cold coke or coffe, made me smile.

The name “Marmolada” derives from “marmo”, that is “marble” in English. So the Marmolada is a “marble-like mountain”, and I think anyone can agree on this. The name of the summit, “Punta Penia”, comes from the Italian word “punta” (i.e. summit), and the local dialect words “pi nia”, that in regular Italian would be “più niente”, meaning “nothing further”. Another fun fact: the cross on the summit is 3343 mm (millimeters) tall, to represent the 3343 m altitude of the summit.

It's totally different to watch a video when you know vistas and trails, compared to your videos in the unfamiliar American mountains. It gives a totally different perspective, cause I can appreciate even more what you are able to pull off. That second day is just totally insane 😲😱 Can't wait for the second part, I hope weather was merciful 🤞 I want to enjoy those views 😍

It's over 40 years ago that I started walking and climbing in the Dolomites. Since then I've done Via Ferrata's, some more rock climing, lot's of walking and now I know this area in winter, skiing around the Sella and also skiiing the Marmolada. So good to see you guys enjoying it all so much! Italian (mountain) food is excellent! I've skied down the slope shown around 13:55. It's totally off-piste and you need good snow conditions.
