Thanks for doing my tag, David. You have some beautiful book editions. Your gems sound interesting. 20 years to finish a book. Must have been a labour of love. 😊💙

I appreciate your choice to not denigrate any book. For every reader that dislikes a book there are plenty who enjoy it so I wish Booktube would use its platform only to promote literature.

You have talked me into Buddenbrooks and Oblomov. Am looking forward to that life and times of a lazy slug.

Good day, David. Buddenbrooks was the first Mann novel I read. Admired him ever since. In time I learned that Gore Vidal and Carlos Fuentes, two important writers to me, counted him as an influence. I have some unread Gautier books, but not the ones you mentioned. Oblomov as well. Maybe this year I'll get to them.Best to you from Texas.

Am now reading The World of Yesterday by Stefan Zweig. In it I'm inhabiting your part of the world a hundred years ago. So powerful and horrible a story of the time and the author. And thanks to you I read The Tin Drum recently.

I hope you enjoyed Oskar Matzerath's tale. On Stefan Zweig: if you like his writing style, I'd recommend his novella 'The Royal Game', sometimes also titled 'Chess Story'.

Thank you for bringing these connections (Vidal, Fuentes) to my attention! Later this year I'll start a long-term close reading project of Thomas Mann's "Magic Mountain" to celebrate the 100th anniversary of this great novel (about one sub-chapter per week, so it'll take about a year...). Best regards from Germany, - David.

LG, David
