Every year, thousands of people head out to Dyker Heights, Brooklyn to marvel at the Christmas lights.
This tradition was allegedly started by Lucy Spata who moved to the Dyker Heights neighborhood in 1986 and was distraught that there were no Christmas decorations. She decided to take matters into her own hands and to this day the Spata House is the crown jewel of the Dyker Heights Christmas Lights.
But what are the DONT'S of visiting Dyker Height? Me and fellow licensed guide/ Guides Association of NYC member Jeremy Wilcox will take you through the DON'T of the Dyker Heights Christmas lights.

Good tips. I live in Brooklyn. Born in Brooklyn. D train to 18 ave and 86 street. Take the B1 Bus toward Bay Ridge Get off at 10 , 11, or 12 Ave and 86 street. R train to 86 street then take the B1 bus toward Manhattan Beach. Get off at 10 11, or 12 Ave and 86 street. Enjoy Dyker Heights. I usually go multiple times.

Some of these houses seem epic! I can't imagine sitting in traffic on a bus to see these though. Walking seems the way to go.

Take the D train to 79th St. and walk west, or take the R to either of the two last stops and walk east.

So many good tips. Take the subway, dress warm, plan for no potty, book a tour early and have fun!
