What a very inspired list. The Funky Kong Stoner reference is a line that goes “I haven’t seen green clouds before! Well...maybe one time....” when Funky is flying his plane upside down and the jungles resemble green clouds to him.

It's interesting to know that high quality instrumentals of some of the show's songs can be found online, presumably under the websites that the music libraries they used are found. These will definitely prove to be useful for things like mashups and YTPs. Also, I was surprised when I initially found out while browsing that a cover of the "Pirate's Scorn" cartoon existed from a pirate themed band (Alestorm), and it sounds superior to the original too. I think Nintendo looks at the show in a more favorable light than many other external cartoon adaptation of their games like the DIC Mario and Zelda cartoons and Captain N, especially given that it got a bigger following in Japan than in English-speaking territories and it got referenced in promotional things for the later DKC games.

While rewatching this iceberg video I had an epiphany, I think "Lord Harry" might in fact be a reference to an american aristocrat known as Douglas Allen Booth, who helped to produce several video game cartoons made by DiC such as Captain N as well as Sonic and Mario cartoons. While he had no involvement in DKC cartoon, I think it might have been a because some people used to think DIC was responsible for DKC cartoon back in the day. I guess "Baron Douglas" warped into "Lord Harry" because it sounds funnier.

I've always wondered what the Finnish dub sounds like, especially since it's apparently done by Werne, who dubbed all the Disney movies back in the 80-90's.

This was a very interesting video, I'm a big fan of icebergs and while I'm very familiar with the DKC cartoon and I love the memes and YTPs that have come out of it, most of the fun facts here I wasn't aware of. I especially found interesting Diddy in the Japanese dub having the voice of Rei from Evangelion and the apparent early scripts containing sexist and racist jokes, and something about my Donkey Kong name being BLUSTER (in minute 11:01) made me strangely proud. I don't know if you're planning to remake this video in Spanish, but if you do, I hope you add to the iceberg the Spanish memes and the ParodiadorAnimado YTPHs, they are iconic.

Great job on the iceberg video!! I learned some interesting new stuff from it. :) This is also how I found out that Donkey Kong Country WARPED *wasn't* a fever dream I had as a kid when looking up the DKC cartoon on KZfaq.

Took me some time to watch this one because I get.. Notoriously Salty whenever people call the show bad or only bring up memes, I am very defensive over it, silly as it might be. But! As I'm on a binge of the show again recently I felt compelled to watch it and I am impressed. Cheers for using some of my content! I have collaborated with a friend to rip and upload the Dutch dub to KZfaq (well, he did the uploading - I just sent him the tapes) so if you're curious about the Dutch dub, look them up! The VHS tapes are very rare. The two with the 2D art style on the cover seem locally produced. The dub is... not super good, especially compared to other media of the time. But it seemed to have had a decent budget, the intro song was covered by a popular band here, and DK was voiced by the same guy who voiced Disney's Aladdin. The DVDs are only subbed in Dutch. A render exists of the last season with flavour text that implies it showed on Nickelodeon, but neither me nor my friend have seen any proof of this existing (and the show was never on Nickelodeon here. Viva Piñata was, though.) ALSO noticed myself in there! Whoa! If I knew it would have been used in a video I would have made it a bit less informal, ha. Some addendums: Erika and I did not personally contact each other. I got the scripts from somebody who did, though, under the promise that I would keep them private. I've since lost contact with them, sadly. Thank you for being respectful about it.

I loved the show as a kid, & seeing this video was fascinating!

Bananas, coconuts and just a bit of honey. Those would be the kind of flavors this iceberg video would have as a desert because it was such a sweet treat, bee. While there was already a fair deal I knew about the cartoon thanks to being friends with you and the creator of the iceberg, I was still surprised by just how much history this goofy video game show has. Would love to give a sum up of my thoughts on each layer, since I know you spent a lot of time narrating and editing this, with your pleasant, soft voice,,, ahem aaaanyways heh. On the surface there was a good mix of familiar and unfamiliar trivia. Was already aware of the Slap Once/Expand Dong meme and DKs popularity in Japan (The Bluster toy is very much blessed). What I really found interesting was the influence the cartoon seemingly had on 64, the Medialab interview, and of course the Alestorm band/cover. Also gotta love how the card game totally made Lanky Kong canon to the show, kinda like WD Gaster popping up in the Undertale card series heh. Shallow Waters started off on a really good note… that’s all I gotta say. For reals though, this is definitely where you started to show your DK smarts bab. From pointing out all the differences in the pilot, to Dixie’s fondness for pet crustaceans, to some pretty slamming references in DK Tropical Freeze. Something else I noticed is that starting from here with his lineage, Captain Skurvy starts to get mentioned more and more. Crazy to think this guy really had a fairly major role in the show. The Depths is where things really start to get far out. From all the could be official but very likely unofficial releases of DKC across to Europe, to Klumps very, temporary betrayal of K Rool. It is, honestly not surprising that the cartoon used public domain tracks (Except for the luxurious song for Leo Luster, how dare they half ass it/j). Surprised they never did a Spy/James Bond themed episode since they already had the kinda tracks available. The hilariously dark, fake subtitles and fake Crystal Coconut movie were good to see here too. The Fathoms, hoo boy can feel things getting serious. With all the theories like the cartoon being a prequel, which I can kiiinda see? To something I can tell you’re serious about and love for which is the Spanish dub. To non-existent characters like the Bog Monster, Aunt Grouchy, Apefucius, and Blusters Mom too, which happens a lot in cartoons granted, but something about this in particular makes the toon dk world seem more foggy and mysterious. The Abyss, oh my gosh this is, whew this is a lot. How in the Hell, did the early episodes of the cartoon almost get away with all this shi- oh hey that’s honestly a pretty good point about the Head Puns song. Huh, wow no wonder Propaganda Mickey got all aged and depressed hearing it as Mario Head joined in (props to anyone who knows dat reference). Hoping too a model release for at least DK himself can happen someday. The last section is,,, I don’t wanna comment too much on it, but can respect yours and others' understanding of the situation. You have a good heart, Skap, and such a clear, deep passion for the DKC Cartoon, which really made this video fun. Hope you can cover more iceberg topics someday, love you and the barrel of fun, interesting content you deliver on this channel.

Cheesy show, but some of the Music is very memorable. The Pirates Scorn song and Nobody's hero I still go back to.

Interesting stuff. Also, I can't stand it when writers abuse a character because they don't like that character. It makes me sad. Diddy and Dixie were always my favorites of the franchise, but I love DK too. I don't like seeing him or any other innocent characters getting abused.

15:00 I think the show came first. All the songs on the website that are used in the show are credited to the same two people, who I believe are listed in the credits of the show. The albums on the website are also owned by Nelvana, who also published the show.

I was not expecing you making an iceberg, but after three reps in Lawl Nova and a couple of DK reviews it is the perfect franchise to cover in this channel. The only thing I could add to this is the probably lost Basque dub which was once in a forum alongside many other cartoons dubbed in Basque, but the Mediafire links expired like a decade ago. I remember the episodes having unconventional translations, like the title itself being "Donkey Kong AND HIS Country" (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ebmil7eist2-ZHk.html) instead of "Donkey Kong('s) Country". The theme song for example translates "Banana Slamma" as "Banana Sarta", which is literally "a hand of bananas" while there are actually more proper words to describe the action of attacking. I wonder how K Rool and the rest were named.

To be honest, I always thought it would be interesting if the DKC Cartoon was a prequel to the games. After all, the island is called Kongo Bongo in the show, Donkey Kong is called the "future ruler" of the island, and in the games the island is now Donkey Kong Island.

We do experience remnants of the originally intended sexist humor for the DKC show through one of the DKTV commercials. According translation, in their advertisement for Obel Corsica, Funky Kong remarks, 'Women at the wheel? More like death on the road!'" Of course, the only source I have on that is from a post by the Super Mario Wiki on Twitter.

Here's a fun fact! There's actually evidence towards which episodes were rewritten. Looking at the Wikipedia page for the DKC cartoon and sorting by production order, eight of the first nine episodes were all written by the same person (Nadine Van der Velde), and thus are very likely to be the leftover storyboard episodes a freelancer rewrote. "Bad Hair Day", "Ape Foo Young", "Booty and the Beast", "Barrel, Barrel... Who's Got the Barrel", "Kong for a Day", "Raiders of the Lost Banana", "From Zero to Hero", and "Cranky's Tickle Tonic" are episodes 1-7 and 9 in production order, with episode 8 being the first Erika Strobel-penned episode. Could be worth watching sometime to see if there's any commonalities!
