No bass player was kinda their problem. I love the doors, always have, but the sound is so thin without a bass guitar player. Anyways, this is still really cool. Might pick this up!

Ray's left hand was the doors bass player, he used a Fender bass keyboard live and in the studio. You can see it over his actual keyboard.

I feel like that could be a plus in some ways. The thinness in their instrumentation leaves more room for Jim's words.

Dante Mendez POP band? They CREATED psychedelic rock, with the song Norwegian wood, created a whole new sound with each album, and have you heard the white album? The first hard rock song/heavy metal song: Helter Skelter, along with rock songs such as Yer Blues, Revolution 1 (/Revolution) Happiness is a Warm Gun, Why Don't We Do It In The Road, Birthday, etc. and off the white album, I've got a feeling, Don't Let me down (rooftop version and studio version) Oh! Darling, I Want You (She's So Heavy), Carry That Weight, The End, etc. every song of theirs did not sound the same. Cant say the same with the doors (I adore The Doors, by the way) listen to their first album. Every guitar solo sounds extremely similar. The Beatles paved the way for music. They created so many new technologies and techniques. They were the revolution of music. No one comes close to them

I just have to add a personal story. I was doing a cover of this song with my band. I sang it. It was a small show, and someone handed me a lit joint while I was singing the "she gets high" part. I took a hit, and gave a shotgun to 2 of the 3 guys playing. The crowd was going nuts. The guitarist didn't smoke weed, and wouldn't do it. I looked at the crowd and said "And if you don't want to, don't." Cheers. I gave the joint back to the guy and thanked him. Then I sang "I got high, I got high..." A few months later, we were getting real gigs. We did Break on Through directly into Roadhouse Blues. Ugh, Ugh, Ugh, UGH! - donk-a-donk-a-duh-duh-duh-donk-a-donk-a-donk... I sang and played harmonica. It was amazing. The only other Doors song we did was Peace Frog. That was also something that put the audience right in our hands. The Doors are on their own level.

Everyone talks about how Jim Morrison was such a great singer, but they don't describe why he was such a great singer. Jim Morrison was really good at singing "in the pocket". He's not only always in rhythm, but he's really good at playing with the rhythm, laying back or attacking the beat to enhance the emotional sense of the lyrics. Other singers can learn a lot by studying him.

As a matter of fact Jim never wished to be such a singer. All his life he wanted to become a poet. Nevertheless, due to some supreme will's choice; he ended up singing his own poems as well as to be known as a rockstar. Who knows?, Maybe that was such a way for us to know about his poetry.

@@buddywilliams5650 Ray plays the bass lines on his 2nd keyboard. On the albums they pull in bassists to play the bass part, never a permanent member or anything and only used for recording, live stuff was all Ray. Also a bass line doesn't mean it's played on bass fyi, it is just a secondary (though on some rare occasions it is the primary) line of music that is in the lowest range. Like classical music has basslines, but it's played on tuba, euphonium, trombone, baritone sax, etc. TLDR: They use bass players for the albums, Ray plays the bass lines on keyboard, basslines aren't just for basses. The Doors, like many rock bands of that period, developed their own unique approach. The band's performances, compositions and arraignments were built around Morrison. Jim's charisma, manner, poetry, voice, dress, drew huge audiences. Even now as I listen, I'm transported back through time to the rise of cynicism, youth rebellion, civil rights, peace and love.

The whole band I feel is a rare example of everyone being a key component. Like yeah Jim Morrison has such an iconic voice but everyone else holds their weight one way or another. Everyone is just so essential to the overall sound it’s honestly more then impressive.

I always saw this period of time as Jim coming into his own. Yes he was struggling to find the balance between fame and freedom, but his look and his appearance showed a maturity he was comfortable with. And he wore it unbelievably well. I still think he was the greatest front man of all time. What a beautiful man, inside & out.

In less than a year from this concert, Jim would be gone (July 3, 1971). He lived life like a shooting star, just the way he wanted to. Shame though, he was a brilliant poet, artist and musician. He had so much more to give the world. He broke on through to the other side....

@@carfarts He flew in to England straight from the Miami trial, then they had to fly a private plane onto the Isle of wight seperately. Jim got no sleep the entire time, partly because he was so nervous to perform in front of 100,000 people. This was the biggest gig that they ever played, and Jim's stage fright from years past came back with a vengeance. He didn't even drink before this show, he was completely sober.Probably why this was his best live vocal in years.
