September 2020. Thank you very much for this tour. I write from Italy, I am a mother and a wife and I doubt that I will ever be able to pack my suitcase and come to L.A. looking for the vibrations from Jim, from the Doors. But it's a dream that's bigger (and more vital) now than it was when I was really a teenager. Now, at the age of fifty, I remained a teenager only in desires. In fact, my heart beats just thinking about walking where HE walked. That's it: Jim Morrison makes me feel and stay young. I am happy to have traveled with you, at least with the thought. The best part of the trip.

Not to put a rain on your parade, Jim was having difficulty with life, hence the escape to France. Los Angeles is not all you might expect it to be. If that is your desire, I would go to the land of the free, and home of the brave. Peace

My favorite Doorsman, and Chicago's very own gift to L.A. (and I've been to the boyhood homes, schools, and city parks). Good job, Tim. I lived a block past the Tropicana on Westmont dr. with my mom when I was 9-10 around 1970. She was a huge Doors fan & became friends with Danny Sugerman (who was just a teenager) & Jim. He gave her a signed copy of his poetry book, American Prayer. We used to walk to the liquor store & wave to The Doors around the time they recorded their last record (LA Woman). We ate at Dukes coffee shop (Tropicana) every weekend. A couple of things. The vocal booth(toilet) was upstairs & the stairs were on the opposite side of the front of the building. The offices were upstairs. When I was there they had just played & had jammed their PA right inside the doorway. I was up there with Bill Siddons (manager) to adopt a kitten from Ray's cat. Downstairs was a pinball & jukebox or pool table. I remember the date because Jim invited mom back to listen to what they had recorded that day for the new album. If anyone is a fan going to LA, consider checking out where Morrison Hotel was & where the Hard Rock bar (the real one) was downtown skidrow area. After Jim died, Danny drove around & showed mom where they were. They are easily found online. We also used to go to the International House of Pancakes down Santa Monica Blvd. a few blocks. That is right near where Janis Joplin died after spending the evening at Barney's Beanery. I hope Doors fans enjoy the info.

Cool stuff! The first place I ever lived in LA in 77 was The Tropicana. It was a dump but really cool nonetheless. I also had a chance to record at The Doors studio after they left and it became Upside Down Recorders. I remember so little of it unfortunately. Maybe its why I like putting this stuff on vid for posterity. Peace to you!

@@RockessentialTim I had a bandmate who played in an SF punk band called CRIME. They stayed there in the late 70s & said it had gone downhill. It was funky in the late 60s, early 70s but I guess scummy by the late 70s. I went to West Hollywood elementary school. My friend & I used to walk behind the Tropicana on the hill that the back of it was cut into. We would laugh because you could hear the people in rooms screaming, laughing, whips cracking, all manner of craziness. We were in 4th grade, so needless to say, it was a fun wild place to be a kid. I wish we had movies of the old days. Be cool & thanks for putting the video together for posterity.

I went to his grave in 87 when the white bust was on a block of granite, or cement. The nose had been broken off so it was disfigurerd. I went early in the morning and was the only one there. Sharpie writing on all the crypts around Jim's grave. This was before they roped it off so you could hang out right there. I will never forget it.

Great video, I had the pleasure to visit all the Doors sites in 95',97' and 99' . I remember room 32 was pretty Plain Jane back in those days no graffiti at all back then, the owners had no Idea who Jim Morrison was and could not figure out why me and my wife wanted to rent the room when the pilot light for the heater was not functioning properly, but we convinced them to rent it anyway. we spent the night in a cold drab hotel room but I will never forget our stay, I can just see Jim's spirit sabotaging the heater just moments before guest arrive and snickering as they shiver as a result. pretty funny Jimbo! well we still have the green "room 32" keychain for our 68' Mustang. . and memories to last a lifetime

I am quite certain that 10 minutes was all my wife was gonna stay there. Room 32 was cool but creepy and grimy. Still, it was a great place to visit. We actually had dinner earlier that night at Blackship, which used to be the Doors recording studio. Virtually none of the staff at the Restaurant knew about LA Woman. Jeez, I must be gettin' old!

I think it was Savage Grace, TeeGarden n Vanwinkle and Brownsville Station on the same bill. Was sitting on the floor up close to the stage.Shortly after Iggy broke a bottle on the mic stand he spit a viscous loogie into the crowd. It landed on the side of my shoe. That's my brush with R&R greatness.

I agree 💯 Cheryl but I always find Jim’s voice youthful and crystal clear during Riders on the Storm. To me that track sounded like Jim on their debut album. It’s like his voice came full circle

I wasn't too enamored with Morrison. I caught the Doors at Winterland which was a massive place and that night it was packed to the walls. When the Doors played their instrumental set Morrison sat on the stage and talked to the audience close by and bummed a cigarette. Before a song Morrison said into the microphone, "Everybody! One. Two, Three, EARTHQUAKE!!! It sent a shudder into the audience because just by looking around you knew you wouldn't get out in time before the roof fell on you or you'd get trampled to death. The exits were too few and small. He was an evil man.

Last year , Anne Morrison released a new book ,, ''Jim Morrison'' . from the book I recently concluded ; he had a darkness or I guess he was evil or more like reckless. I doubt he would murdered or over came his demons had he lived a longer life.
