You're forgetting that he could not act against the Mexican government as well - as their political protection was the only thing keeping him alive. He was between a rock and a hard place. Felix much more egregiously violated this principle when sent Don Neto to prison. The real wolf in sheep's clothing was Amado - he was the guy who Felix trusted the whole time, and he avenged his incarcerated uncle at precisely the right time.

I never understood why they didn't make Kiki's body disappear. I mean torturing and killing him wasn't the right move in the first place. I think Felix didn't approve that initially but once they had him he ended up going along with it (if we are to believe the TV series) and Kiki Camarenas death was the catalyst that lit the fire under the USA to punish Felix Gallardo it makes one wonder what if he had never been found? Hundreds of ppl go missing in Mexico all the time if he was never found they couldn't link it back to him. But I mean if you make a mistake that reckless it is only a matter of time before you would make another one and then it all comes undone anyway. I agree with you in the context of the show his blindspot was not knowing his own friends and enemies well enough.

You can't provide analysis without specifically delving into the partners (or employees as Felix disparagingly called them) who turned against him in the end, with Amado planning it the whole time. As clever as Felix was, he didn't appreciate that others can be clever to his level too.

It’s was all in that last episode of season 3. He made the choice to kill that guys wife and kids, he called the FBI giving the location of the last shipment in LA. That was enough to piss off everyone in the federation and Columbia all at the same time for them to back out and work against him. You knew it was all gonna fall apart when his wife freaked out about him killing someone’s kids. There’s no coming back from that. The American mafia didn’t even go that far. They’d threaten their families but rarely ever did it come to that Edit: technically he didn’t sell drugs be moved them from one place to another.
