Yh I agree to an extent lots of the Ninjago stuff like Prime empire, Master of the mountain and Seabound easily could have been a new game/sci-fi theme, fantasy theme and a Atlantis theme but with none of the popularity of Ninjago how successful would they have been? And it's hard to complete with all the licensed IP they have now and with how popular/guarantee money makers what's the need I could only really see castle, classic space and pirates returning all of the other power miner, space nonsense isn't gonna cut it. There's multiple reasons Ninjago has beaten out the likes of many Original LEGO IP the set's are some of the best from vehicles of jets and mechs to astonishing temples and modular buildings, the show itself has some interesting lore and characters

I think the concept for the third wave was interesting, but the sets’ reliance on “fire and water” gimmicks and related equipment was odd and limiting towards the designs, I wish we got something more like “journey to the center of the earth”, with a massive underground jungle the team would have to venture through.
@neuronoc.7343
@neuronoc.7343 Жыл бұрын
Maybe what would've been really interesting was if there was sort of a mix of both the lava theme and the underground jungle theme. Like, there's rivers of lava, but there's also rock-based jungles and what not, with trees that have rocky bark and crystalline sap and fruit. Not to mention the insanely possibile diversity of new rock monsters living in the rock jungle.

@trickerino

Personally, I think the third wave was very disappointing. While lime and blue do work well together, it doesn't compare to lime and orange. Plus, lime and orange was THE color scheme to represent Power Miners as a whole, so when they changed it, I was immediately repulsed. The Power Miner outfits were also a let down, they were only in one color and everyone had the same outfit. Felt much more bland compared to the first wave's different, very detailed and personalized designs. But my biggest issue was with the new Rock Monsters. The black color did not look good on them at all and the lack of black on the heads didn't help either. Major step down from the first wave's Rock Monsters. So in conclusion, I'm honestly not surprised as to why wave 3 did badly

I agree. Plus the third wave overall was pretty underwhelming, with very few sets and not any particularly impressive ones. Plus all the sets were built around containing and "putting out" the rock monsters rather than drilling, so the whole wave just kinda lost its focus at that point.

As a big fan of Rock Raiders and Life On Mars, it really wasn’t surprising that Lego canceled the line, sales slump or no. Wait a few years and they’ll do another one especially since I don’t think they can fold the industrial mining aesthetic into Ninjago like they did with Exo-Force, Vikings, Knights, Ninjas, and Alpha Team.

Thing is, TLG's business model has significantly changed. They've committed fully to franchise and "brand identity" marketing now. If they can't fold something into one of their existing big-name franchises or nab a relevant license, chances are they're just not going to bother at all.

Yes! Rock Raiders had so much personality in their designs and sets. They felt like a bunch of scrappy underdogs that were easy to root for. So I'm old enough that I remember the Rock Raiders sets and I used to play and love the game, and when Power Miners came out, I originally disliked it before I realised that considering it's set on Earth rather than in space, it's not a reboot but a prequel theme to Rock Raiders. I don't know if that's how Lego saw it themselves but that's what made sense to me and how I chose to look at it. If the theme was to ever come back then I think that's what I'd want to see, would be that transition from them being Power Miners to them being Rock Raiders, as they start mining out in space.

I still remember it, watching the commercials like cartoon, religiously looking up stop motion fan made movies with these sets and wanting one of my own too, on the christmas day i got the drill and the crystal king. I remember having a either red and blue rock monster or a red and green rock monster. Either way, before that i just had the lego pile, don't know where it came from, but me and my brother had this huge bag of lego bricks and we just build freely from that, which was fun but i always yearned for a set. And finally i had it, for years it was displayed and i was so hurt when i lost the rock monsters (i was a very messy kid and still as an adult i misplace things all the time, it's a pain), but the drill was still there. Determined to put it all together by the plan, it took me quite a while but i was so happy with it. That was the only lego set i ever had, so it makes me even more sad that this line got discontinued. Since if i'll ever move to a bigger apartment and have more room and will get into the mood to get some, they'll probably be jacked up in prices. But maybe there's some other cool sets, but i'd love to get my hands on one of these again.

I don't remember much, since it was so long ago, but the green pieces for its hands bring up memories of building it. While I never knew the theme was that popular, it's a shame that it got shelved. The minifigs and monsters were worth the price, but in the end, I wish they would have revitalized the original Rock Raiders to upscale a lot of the sets. However, I still love the theme! Rock Raiders is still the greatest Lego Video Game of all time (considering when it came out and the thought that went into it) Grew up trying to beat the game but after playing the game for over 15 years, can now finally beat it. Even though me and my sister only had a few power miners sets, I adored this lineup. I loved watching the CGI story shorts that were abridged in the commercials. I remember there being a lot of other online promotional material too, like the rock monsters on the surface where actors would play the rock monsters in giant inflatable costumes doing wacky real world things. The best videos were the ones where the lego engineers that created the sets would talk about their creations with some humor behind them. It was cool to see the people that took the time to create these sets and always made me envious of building them, myself. Thank you for reminding me of how much joy I got from the sets, but also the online content too.

Was such a cool theme, brings me back to early 2010s when I used to own many of wave 1 & 2; being a young child then most unfortunately haven't remained intact with the only one I have left still whole being the command rig. I'd never heard of the 3rd wave though which surprised me as I loved the theme

Power Miners and Bionicle practically made my childhood lol. I remember playing all of the games and watching the video shorts on the Lego site when it had just come out. The Thunder Driller was my first “larger” Lego set and that theme had some of the best designs of any (even now).

What a damn trip down the Nostalgia lane, I LOVED seeing these commercials. Sadly we could not afford much toys in my childhood, so we had very few lego sets. Atleast one of them was Power Miners themed, maybe the Fire Blaster set. I distinctly remember first getting my hands on one of those little crystal guys, and seeing how their mouth opened to store the crystal, just as it was advertised. Glad we got some imagination as kids, and when winter came and the tractors plowed snow into huge piles, they formed the perfect "mines" to us. Armed with plastic shovels, we had become power miners ourselves, searching for crystals and fighting the monsters. Amazing how seeing some commercials gave enough fuel to fire hours of imagination adventures. I fondly look back on these sets, even though I didn't get to tamper with the biggest sets.

my god this was my absolute favorite. such a cool aesthetic, i loved the orange and green colors of the miners and the neon of the monsters. i had so many of the vehicles like the mechs of the multiple waves and the giant drill. the little sweeper and grabber things were awesome too. and the metal armor and helmet with visor of the later wave were my favorite for moc warriors. the play features were amazing too, moving parts on armor and helmets, the monsters could hold stuff in their mouths and hands, it was just perfect. so nostalgic and i'd honestly play with these things as a 19 year old haha

I kept commenting that I missed Power Miners, and look at what youtube recommends me! lol I own the Granite Grinder, Chopper, Mine Mech, and Claw Digger. My dream set was the Thunder Driller, but I also wanted that Titanium Command Rig very badly. Those 3D animated ads were absolutely hysterical too. They were so funny, so creative, and established a very cool world that I really wanted to immerse myself in. It's such a crying shame Lego discontinued this line. It was some of the most creative and cool lines of sets ever. Maybe aside from Mars Mission. You should do an episode on that!

I remember when I was a kid getting these sets, almost having one of every kit, then when I saw that the instructions included the idea of combining kits, I was like, "I gotta make my own, maybe I can submit it, to lego" then I took apart like 5 of my powerminer sets, and used the parts to make some neat little things, even keeping all my lose parts in a very specific bin, then when my mom dumped the little bin into my big bin of legos, it was heartbreaking, and killed a lot of motivation to even rebuild those sets, they were my favorite sets, honesty. I honestly might buy some of the sets again. thank you for telling me how these sets ended up, I remember these eventually pumping sets out to where I couldn't catch up.

No joke, watching this video made my eyes water. I am recalling the days when I would beg my parents to buy me these sets, along with Lego's other original themed sets--Atlantis, Power Miners, Space Police, etc. Waking up some days and seeing a wrapped box at the foot of my bed, shaking it and shouting in excitement as I hear the rustle of lego pieces inside. I now have the disposable income to buy myself lego, but its just not the same anymore, seeing how majority of what I see on shelves is just Star Wars or Lego City. Thank you Lego, for being a massive part of my childhood growing up.

I remember Power Miners when it came out in 2009. I was 5 at the time. I drooled over those sets SO BAD, and I was so jealous when some friends of mine got them. Sadly, I missed out on getting them - my parents didn't seem to thrilled at the idea. (I had mostly City sets at the time). However, i managed to get a secondhand Thunder Driller set in 2016 when I was 12 - complete with the original box and all - only missing 1 sticker. Sadly, I never got any of the others, but I played with that set like crazy for a while! Eventually, it got disassembled and it's parts were used for building MOC's, but last year (I think), I dug out the parts and rebuilt the set, I think I am only missing 1 part. Honestly, I like both this and Rock Raiders a lot, and wish Lego would bring back at least one of them. I kind of like Rock Raiders slightly more, but I think Lego would be more likely to bring this one back as most of the parts/colors are either still in production or were more recently discontinued, unlike Rock Raiders which uses so many old and rare parts and colors. Still, Lego really should bring back one of those themes, or at least introduce another successor (maybe with a backstory connected to either Rock Raiders or Power Miners).

I loved the design videos and shorts that the team made with the sets, similar to those of Mars Mission and other themes of that time. Seeing the toys being played and play features working perfectly gave a sense of security about the sets themselves (also seeing the thunder drill turn into a hanging carousel was iconic)

When I was a kid, this theme was hands down my favorite along with Lego SW. I grabbed every set I could and made a point of collecting all the different rock monsters. LEGO showing off combining the different sets sold it the most for me in retrospect. It lead to many happy hours of building the wildest mining machines I could imagine when I got bored with the intended design. And best of all, my creation looked more or less at home in the theme. No randomly colored blocky abominations like many of my SW mocs at that age. You were given the means to build and expand upon the theme without any of your work looking like it was out of place.
