The DOWNFALL of Manchester United (2013 - Now)

Manchester United were once an unstoppable team under their legendary manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, clinching 13 titles in 21 Premier League seasons.
But all good things come to an end, and as Sir Alex retired after guiding United to their 20th league title in 2013, little did fans know that this would mark the start of a turbulent era for the club.
Since 2013, United have spent £40 million on managers but have had zero Premier League or Champions League trophies to show for their staggering investment. They have also finished outside the top 4 on five occasions and lost as many league home games (34) as they did during Ferguson’s 26-year reign. An elite club has never looked more clueless than the present-day Man United.
This is the downfall of the Manchester United dynasty and their decade of mismanagement in the post-Ferguson era.

Shortly before Ferguson’s retirement, Ferguson allegedly had dinner with Pep Guardiola to offer him the managerial position at United, but Pep declined because he wanted to build his own legacy elsewhere. Fast forward to 2024…and..Pep’s done just that in the blue half of Manchester.

SAF was the heart and flesh of Manchester United in its modern era. Without him what is left is merely bones and shell. The club needs restructuring from top to bottom in order to herald a new post-SAF era. It is amazing that they still have not managed to get this right in ten years.

One thing that has to be said, there were some brilliant Utd teams under SAF, but the one that won the title in his last season (2012/13) wasn’t one of them…the reality was, the core of that side was ageing, and needed serious rebuilding, and they more or less won that title thanks to the phenomenal form of RVP..he practically carried the team that season…without RVP’s form that season, they most likely would have finished 4th or 5th… Moyes was a disaster, but I don’t think their major slump in form the following season was solely down to him…even though RVP was still there, it was inevitable that he wouldn’t be able to sustain that phenomenal form from the previous season…so the cracks were already there in SAF’s last season…

I like your documentary, but solely concentrating on football coaches is not enough to describe the downfall of ManU. You mentioned it already, the mismanagement, commercialization (though commercialization could be positive), and unstructured transfers killed the club. On the other side, clubs like ManCity did a great job with a similar approach. I think if we look at the bigger picture, the structural issues, paired with mismanagement is the main reason. There is a lack of longterm success, no idea where the club should go, and with no idea there is no project to follow.

Chicharito's departure from Manchester United were Moyes and Van Gaal's fault. They always kept him on the bench. And Cristiano Ronaldo's was ten Hag's fault. Mourinhos's tenure at Man U was alright by winning Europa League EFL Cup, and Community Shield.

What we’ve seen in the last 11 years now didn’t start in 2013 - it started in the summer of 2009 with the sale of Ronaldo. A world record fee (at the time) that was never invested properly into an ageing squad. It’s a testament to SAF and his abilities as a manger that he managed to win a further 2 league titles and get to a champions league final. This is why I have some sympathy for Moyes now, in that he inherited arguably our weakest title winning squad with an atrocious structure above him run by Ed Woodward (a man who had no business being in the position he was picked for). What needed to happen was for David Gill (the chef exec during SAF’s reign) to stay on another year to help Woodward. Moyes should have been forced to keep the coaching staff for at least 3 years to ensure some continuity. That said however, I doubt Moyes would have succeeded anyway. I’ve never believed for one minute he was Sir Alex’s first choice for the role.

United are lucky to be in 6th position because this season could've been so much worse even United will be in PL survival battle. ETH's not adaptiveness will cost United. The games United played so far this season has shown glaring ETH's tactical issues. I mean wtf was ETH thinking!!!!!🤬🤬🤬leaving CDM alone at the back when defending in every single game!!!! What's even more funnier is that ETH got 4 players wanted but still not worked AT ALL. Secondly, why ETH agree on signing Casemiro for 60mil when he is aging already and why sign Antony(80mil) who's far too predictable. This is something similar to Tuchel's tenure at Chelsea (won CL 2021 and downfall afterwards). Tuchel got no backup plan cost Chelsea, same as United: no backup plan will completely screw United

Chelsea fans are not ready, they don't even realize that their club is going to take the same trajectory as Manchester United over the last 10 years.... With the war as the starting point for a brutal fall in Ukraine where their patron Abramovitch had to sell the club, it has the same impact as the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson 11 years ago. There are all the signs that Chelsea will have the same fate as Manchester United since 2013, lack of stability with many coaches fired, costly transfers for overrated players.

Do Utd want a new younger fanbase; a base that actually REMEMBERS the players that makes Utd great, say like big H*, Kdb, Salah, Kane etc r active/ future legends etc? If they asked any fans under 21 about an current active future Utd legend, what answers do they thk theyll get cos there isn't 1 at present ( unless u count a dubious McTomminay , Evans or Rashy etc)? Times hav changed an Utd needs t change accordingly, otherwise theyll just recoil even more, yes, recede back t the point of no return like say a Newcastle/Tottenham ( both half decent clubs who've not won anything since the fans 70yr ol parents were once kids themselves).
