As somebody who lives in DC I’m surprised you didn’t mention the worst thing that’s ever happened to the Wizards... Kwame Brown... But let’s be real... YES John Wall’s contract is bad but in 2017 he really gave ALOT of energy that was needed to the city. I will never forget Game 6 against the Celtics... I work at a Sports Bar... I just remembered how glued everybody was to the game and when he hit that game winner... Bruh... It was one of the greatest moments in a long time for DC sports. Yeah we lost the series but John Wall put up a fight. Plus Game 6... I made triple of what I normally make cause EVERYBODY was celebrating. It was amazing. The only time I’ve seen that energy in the city is when the Caps won but I don’t follow hockey so...

Good video. I don't have a huge issue with Wall's contract because the team was rewarding John Wall's loyalty and how well he played on the way to the 2016-17 season, and generally his play rising during the playoffs. He was top 5 in the deepest position of elite talent. The problem was Ernie Grunfeld dishing out draft picks while overpaying players. He kept recycling veterans, while not drafting many players to develop. He also didn't factor in the decline of Gortat's play. The team is on the right track now. This is the first video I've watched that gives out some hope.

Watching this in May of 2021 with Wall in Houston and Westbrook in DC alongside Beal, the end of this video when you talked about Sheppard was just foreshadowing. Tommy has been fantastic in building this team (quickly) into somewhat of a future contender. He's shown he knows how to draft and could possibly turn this team into a FA destination. I've been a fan my entire life and for the first time since the 06-07 season (pre Arenas/Butler injuries) I feel a sense of hope.

A good video to describe what happened with the Wizards. There are a few things other things that lead to the downfall during the Wall era: 1) Grunfield trading away 2 years worth of draft picks which hollowed out the youth. 2) The trade returns which were expiring and/or over-the-hill vets that didn't stay with the team. 3) Highlighting Grunfeld unwillingness to draft or acquire young players as opposed to Sheppard.

Ernie did well enough to elevate them from where they were before he got there but it wasn't enough to actually make them serious contenders year in and out. Player development and personnel acquisition lacked for years. Organizational issues are the main problem the Wizards have and I am excited to see what they do with new hires. They may want to take some consulting from the Dallas Cowboys' personnel team, with how well they have been drafting and signing players for the last few years. Stephen Jones and Will McClay could probably lead a seminar on it lol.

You're pretty on point with everything except the John Wall situation. If Wall was healthy, there would be nothing to talk about in regards to his contact. Wall would have gotten that money anyway Bad luck on the injury. If Wall comes back from it, then fine. But that wasn't a mistake in thinking. The Mahinmi contact is the worst deal on the books. $65M guaranteed with a no trade clause. The Otto trade and not keeping Portia and Parker were big mistakes. Trading Oubre for Ariza was another big mistake. The major weakness has been in the 4 & 5 position. Morris and Gortat disappeared in the playoffs and were major contributors to the Wizards 1st round exits. If we had that $65M, there is a lot that could have been done with that. Stars don't get No Trade clauses. This bum got his money guaranteed and we can't offload him.

All of these discussions about Wall's contract being bad(and worst} would be forgotten IF he comes back healthy, all are perceiving that he will not be the same player anymore when he get back. History says achilles injuries on players will greatly decline a player's game(also Wall will be on his 30's), but WHAT IF that's not the case to Wall's. Just tired of the bad contract this and worst contract that, people are all expecting the downside aftermath but not the positive. Front office has changed a lot and coaching personnel too so let's wait and see people. #DC

Injuries are what made John Walls contract terrible. He came off an all NBA season that year and it was a no brained to extend the franchise star. Injuries are part of the game unfortunately but hind sight is 20-20 but I would still give him that contract. If anything poor drafting and free agency signings doomed this team like Jan Vesely, Chris Singleton, Summer of 16. I think the wiz are heading in the right direction with young guys and I’m really rooting for JW to come back strong.
