What a talented man he was. The tips of his fingers had butterflies on them. He gave so much enjoyment to people. Then to suffer and die like he did. When I watched his last interview - it hurt my heart. Made me so sad.

I loved this score from when I first heard it in '67.This theme tune has an elegant sadness that is haunting and underpins the failure of his character Stanley Moon to find love.

Spot on. Dudley was a complex person from all I've read about him, with what seemed to be an inherent sadness over that fact his Mother was quite distant and ashamed to hold him as a child due to him being born with a club foot. You can hear that pain in so much of his music.
@lilybond64852 жыл бұрын
@Craig: Wow. Did not know that. If that was my child I have loved him even more. Cherished him. How sad of his mother.

Our country hasn't produced many true jazz pianists...Brian Lemon, Colin Purbrook, George Shearing, Jamie Cullum and Keith Tippet.....but Dudley was probably one of our best.......it was so hard to get recordings or LPs back in 1970 - 1975 when I knew he was so good but never had the coverage he truly deserved. Dudley was a genius of music and humour. Massive loss to entertainment. RIP sir.

Stan Tracey ?
@martinplatt59284 ай бұрын
@@davidcolton7167 Stan was, without doubt, a true genius on piano although perhaps more influenced by the great Bill Evans. I think Dudley was virtually unknown as a jazz pianist in the 1960s/early 1970s. For me, it's Dudley's beautiful flow with jazz that sets the scene for me. I see Stan Tracey more of a technician. Both are truly superb David. My late father was a huge Garner fan and, of course, the master Mr Fats Waller!
@blue47er18 күн бұрын
Well, it seem you have overlooked the superb Victor Feldman. And then there w as the lesser known, but highly gifted, Alan Clare. It was Alan who saved the day when, in 1965, Bill Evans played at Ronnie Scott's. Scott and his partner, Pete King, could not hire a grand piano for the gig, but Alan Clare lent them his own piano, and saved the day, Great times, remembered fondly.

Moore trained as a musician since the age of 6 and won an organ scholarship to Madeline College of Oxford. He was a gifted musician and composer and loved Jazz. He was born with club feet, one of which responded to corrective surgery, but the other one didn't. He was extremely self conscious about his deformed foot, and his very short stature (5'2"). He got into comedy at Oxford when he was introduced to and began working with Jonathan Miller and Peter Cook in "Beyond the Fringe." Dudley Moore wrote this piece as well as the rest of the soundtrack for the 1967 film "Bedazzled". The movie soundtrack was performed by the Dudley Moore Trio. The drummer's name was Chris Karan en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Karan and the bassist was named Jeff Clyne en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Clyne

Traditionally, film soundtracks have repeated themes - sometimes each one attached to a particular character. But on the album, the tracks have to have names - thus the same theme often has several names. In "Bedazzled" this theme is played when Raquel Welch (as Lillian Lust) "tempts" Dudley (Stanley Moon) and is thus called "Lillian Lust" on the album. But it is the SAME theme as was used in the "Pop Star" sequence when, with lyrics, it was "sung" by Peter Cook (George Spiggott - the Devil).
