As awful as the devious licks trend was, I’m still genuinely impressed a teenager stole an entire toilet from a school. Like how do you do that? It’s so stupid to steal something as nasty as a toilet yet so impressive they managed to sneak it under the school’s nose.

Some of these challenges legit sound like something 4chan would make to troll people. I wouldn’t be surprised if at least one of these challenges was made up to intentionally get people to nearly off themselves for clout. Good job covering this iceberg topic and I also share the old man sentiment when it comes to these “challenges” 🔥🔥

@leaf6356

im convinced that this is real. there's communities that'll cultivate together to create a fake trend and get ACTUAL people they deem as stupid, clout chasing, ugly, literally anything, to attempt it and possibly k*like themselves because of it. the tide pod challenge and bleach challenge come to mind. average people would see that and go, "how can someone be so stupid as to try that?!?" but there's actual people that are so unaware that they would and have done it, and some have died.

I remember that there was this stupid "international r*pe day" trend where a lot of guys were saying that they'd r*pe a lot of women on some day on april (i think it was the 24th), even news channels here in Mexico made a warning for all girls to stay home and safe on that day because of any idiot actually trying to do that "challenge". I still remember when tiktok was just silly fun, silly chain duets doing silly and fun activities, or stuff like planking, or this "statue" challenge with people having to stand still or "the floor is lava" challenge or any innocent fun challenge or even wholesome challenge. I still remember this piano guy that would play any song and sometimes link every song to megalovania. I miss old tiktok.

The sad part about the Nyquil Chicken 'challenge' is that it wasn't even supposed to be a challenge. The original post about the chicken was obviously a joke, but the media coverage blew it out of the water. It was mistaken to be a challenge when the joke started to properly circulate, when it was never a challenge in the first place. The only reason it became known as a 'dumb TikTok trend' was because the joke had reached the platform and the impressionable people watching may have believed that it was serious and decided to try it themselves. I know there have been hundreds of times when this has happened. How do I know? Because the internet is fucking stupid. Look at the TidePod challenge, Nikocado's 'devoted' followers and just the existance of 4Chan proves my point.

the same thing happened with the tide pod challenge, originally it was just people joking about how they looked like gushers and calling them "forbidden snacks" and then the news blew it out of proportion and made it seem like everyone under the age of 18 ate 100 tide pods a day

I started teaching middle school last year and devious lick was a fucking menace. We were pretty chill and like "hey y'all don't do that" until someone busted the pipes in the boys bathroom and no one could use the bathroom in that building for two months while they repaired the pipes, stalls, urinals, and sink. Cost our already criminally underfunded education system who knows how many thousands of dollars on repeatedly repairing or replacing stuff on campus. It got to where an adult had to check the bathroom before someone went in and after they came out to make sure nothing was "licked". Tbh? Big cringe

Just going to elaborate on the fractal wood burning one because I need y’all to understand how much that can kill you: the voltage required will make it so that you will die (or, if you’re lucky, you’ll be severely burned. Limb loss is not only possible but probable by the way) if any part of your body touches the device used to make the design, or the piece of wood. Yes, you can wear rubber gloves- but what if you shift to the side a little, and your hip bumps into the side of the board of wood? Death. What if there’s an unseen hole in your gloves? Death. What if someone tries to save you by trying to pull you away? Surprise, they’re dead too. It’s banned by most woodworking organizations for a reason.

Cinnamon challenge was around far before TikTok, but yes, it is extremely dangerous. It can very easily go wrong and cause asphyxiation which... Because it's cinnamon dust, it's not easy to solve. It also proves a risk to people with asthma as, again, dust. Even cat litter dust triggers my asthma so I definitely see how cinnamon would do the same. Ice Bucket Challenge was also around before TikTok, it was to raise awareness for ALS and it was also typical to donate to ALS medical funds if you were tagged in the challenge
@n0xsludge012

Okay so the cinnamon challenge didn’t originally start out deadly. Dumb yes, but the people didn’t do it to risk death lol, when it started getting dangerous is when people started burning smiley’s on their hands. That’s when it really started getting dangerous, then the finger & knife challenge also probably encouraged it too. The ice bucket challenge was for awareness. Even I did it as a kid when it was popular. Hardly anyone got actually harmed by it unless people intentionally made it so. All I used was cold hose water and a few ice cubes from the fridge lol

Some corrections on the pinksauce story: The sauce did NOT contain mayonnaise. This was pure speculation based off of the thickness and white colour needed for the sauce. How To Cook That confirmed by testing herself that it’s actually an emulsifier made form the dragon fruit and water which was actually very stable (She is also an actual food scientist) A lot of shade was also thrown towards MatPat for very blatantly partaking in the spread of misinformation as he does not have any actual qualifications to prove any of his claims, nor to my knowledge ever apologised when corrected The botulism accusations had to do with honey rather than milk And the incorrect label was a combination of mixing up numbers + spelling errors, as well as incorrect nutritional information not adding up to the supposed calorie amount *Not defending Pinksauce lady at all, she’s blatantly unprofessional and could’ve posed an actual risk to people and should’ve 100% been more careful* (not to mention respectful to her customers) A lot of misinformation has been spread by influencers to the point of actual slander painting Pii as intentionally malicious when no, she’s just EXTREMELY unprofessional which is still very bad

@Austin Harper well, if I had never heard the word out loud, I would probably associate with the next closest word, melanin. As for the kicking the door thing, also people with ptsd exist. We used to live in an apartment where these jerk-ass teenagers would come by every day and bang as loud as they could on our door because we had a polite "please don't knock on our door unless you are delivering mail" note on the door for years, but it wasn't a problem until these asshole teenagers started walking past our door. The sign was there because I have service-connected ptsd and can panic when I hear sudden loud noises. We also had several videos from our security camera of them doing it that we emailed to the management office, and they claimed it was "too blurry" to identify the jerks, which was untrue because our roommate worked in surveillance and said it's not blurry at all and if they management office "knew all the kids" like they claimed, they shouldn't have had any issues identifying them. The little shits never faced any consequences. Anyways, don't do things that disturb other people's lives. You never know if someone's a gun nut or if what you're doing is going to cause actual medical distress to them.
