This tutorial is done in the Overlay Mosaic Crochet Technique. In this tutorial I will teach you how to crochet this eye catching Mosaic Crochet design. Some call this a Mosaic Moss Stitch. 😁
This pattern is worked in a MULTIPLE of 2 + 4. ROW START TIMES PROVIDED BELOW. Additional info provided below for working in the round as well.
TO REPEAT THE DESIGN FOR LARGER PROJECTS YOU WILL WORK ROWS 1 through 4 AND THEN WORK ROWS 3 & 4 AS MANY TIMES AS YOU WOULD LIKE FOR THE PROJECT YOU CHOOSE. END your project by working Row 3 as your final row & complete a row of SC in color A

🪄HOOK SIZE: I am using an D size Nelsonwood hook in this tutorial, you can find more info here:
www.nelsonwood.net/store/c1/S...
I recommend using the below hook sizes depending on yarn used:
3 DK yarn : 3.5mm to 4.5mm
Size 4 Medium/worsted weight: 4.5mm to 5.5mm.
Mixing 3 & 4 weight: 3.5mm to 4.5mm
SIZE 1 Lace Weight - 2.75mm to 3mm hook used on slouchy hat
THE YARN: I'm using size 3 yarn, any brand will work as well as any size.
Color A: Deramores Studio Anti-Pilling DK in Sky
Color B: Stylecraft Special DK in Dandelion
Note on mixing yarn sizes 3 (DK) & Size 4 (Medium Worsted weight): THE TRICK TO MIXING YARN SIZES IS JUST KEEPING YOUR TENSION EVEN AND USING THE SMALLEST SIZE HOOK RECOMMENDED FOR THE SMALLER YARN!
Suggested starting chains for various projects - counts include +4 at end:
*Baby blanket: 116 chains depending on yarn size used
*Place mats: 60 chains
*Messenger bag: 60 chains for body of bag, work until desired height of panel is achieved
*Purse/Bag handle & sides (as shown on my messenger bag): 204 total starting chain in size 3 yarn with 3.5mm hook, completed 7 rows, row 3 was final row of pattern, finished off with a row of SC in color A to end.
*Table Runner: 60 chains for total width of table runner, you will then work the repeats to obtain the total length for your table.
*Throw blanket : 172 chains, yarn size will affect total width and the number of repeats is up to you and will determine total length
*Tote or Throw Pillow: 60 chains depending on yarn size used and desired size, create 2 and seam together
*Makeup or Notions bag: 32, create 2 and sew together or see in the round info below
*Scarf: 32 chains depending on yarn size used and desired width. I recommend size 3 light weight yarn or smaller for garments. Wide scarf: 60 Chains; Shawl: 88 chains
***IN THE ROUND projects*** Slip stitch to first chain and you must work into that first stitch following the repeat given in the video:
Slouchy Hat: 98 chains, in size 1 yarn with a 2.75mm hook
Throw Pillow: 20" to 24" depending on yarn size used and tension chain 84
Bag or Tote: 56 chains to 84 chains depending on desired size
Treat bags/Mini gift bags: 42 to 56 chains
You can create any project you like from Mosaic Crochet, these are just a few suggestions!
Project info and starting:
To begin your project you will chain in multiples of 2 plus 4 at the end to work a flat piece. You will skip the first chain and begin working in the second chain from the hook, ending up with an odd number of stitches. EXAMPLE: I chained 34 and had 33 stitches at the end of my first Foundation Row.
TO WORK IN THE ROUND: chain in multiples of 2 and slip stitch to the first chain. begin working the repeat in the first stitch [same stitch you slip stitches into) and follow the Repeat as given in the video.
Stitches used in this project: Back Loop Single Crochet and Front Loop Double Crochet.
